I don't know where 'Spoilers' really became a thing but telling someone the ending to a film has always been bad manners, surely?

I also find being told theres a twist completely takes you out of the movie and instead has your trying to out think it. I don't like trying to work out plot twists I like to be surprised.

The question about giving a spoiler to get someone to watch it is interesting. I made a short called 'Flat Footed Apocalypse' which has a banner on this very forum (Thanks Teague!) Now the image I used to promote the film is a bit of a spoiler but what makes the film work is that it plays on expectations. For the record this is a STUPID way to make a short because you can't get anyone to watch it without telling them it's not the generic thing you make it out to be.

I also did this to myself with Fringe, I'd seen the pilot but not been hooked and around the time s3 was airing I read the revelation from the end of s1 which intrigued me enough to pick up the dvds.

The worst spoiler for me was starting my first job in a cinema. We weren't allowed tickets to The Dark Knight and (somehow) I managed to go a whole month without hearing a word about it and when finally the embargo was lifted one of the managers strolled along the counter announcing in the most devonshire of voices...

SPOILER Show
Oooh! I didn't think they'd blow her up!

Heres a question, does anyone seek out spoilers for any movies or shows?

Someone's got a side business in Christmas cards ready for next year  big_smile

I have to say I'm quite baffled by people preferring s5 to the earlier shows. But on the other hand It's not like I've been keen to revisit much of it and haven't bought any DVDs since s3

Ah yes ICQ "Uh Ooh!"

If you're doing a screen replacement cut out the blank screen from the original layer and place it over what your putting "on screen" and tweak the gamma levels to make it look like it is inside the glass.

If your on set go one further and turn the camera around and film a reflection pass and add that with something like 25% opacity.

Oh yeah, google was rubbish compared to Yahoo for quite a while.

The thing I really miss is how the internet was a massive library of information. The sad thing about Web 2.0 or whatever is how sites stopped being static and became blogs.

Now if you remember something you want to find on IO9 but can't remember what it was called you have to remember the month it was posted to look through archives.

Edit: I love it when someone keeps a good production blog for their film but if you ever discover them after the film is released you have to read through it backwards. Why has no blog platform one ever developed an "oldest to newest" option ?!

Owen that made me grin from ear to ear you sod  big_smile

Eddie, I'm currently expanding my motion graphics reel, let me know if you want any graphics or animated lower thirds doing.

Those are widely known as a Whedon Hat Trick.

This was much more impressive back in the day when it pretty much meant having been in all Whedons shows. How many people can say that?!

If possible get a gradient ND filter or avoid directly showing the sky as that white blown out highlights look is a very 'digital' look.

Ok so as a kid did you ever go to visit Santa only to have it turn out to be a bit rubbish?

For example:

December 1991 - Dorking, Surrey. England

Young Faldor aged 6 is waiting outside "Santa's Grotto" which even to young eyes looks convincingly like a shed from a garden centre. The She... Grotto door opens and a man dressed as Father Christmas but with a false beard half on half dangling around his neck sticks his head out and asks if the 10 or so people gathered are all there to see Santa.

December 1993

I was at a cheap department store in Devon where an awkward Father Christmas asks what I wanted for Christmas and then unsure of what to asks next simply asks if I've been to the shop before...

I always liked this one

If I can add a question, Do you guys come up with your titles first or last?

Right, I'm heading to bed, but just in case I don't get to speak to you guys again. It's been a pleasure!

*salutes*

Yeah, it's a really interesting read. They didn't want to do a second dark movie after First Contact and Patrick Stewart had some very odd ideas about "Movie Picard" being different from his TV counterpart and insisted on referring to everything as 'Sexy'

Interestingly enough the first draft of Insurrection was a take on Heart of Darkness
