*adding Firefly to watch list*
*again*
If all goes as planned with what you could now call the Road Trip's Final Destination, a huge geomagnetic storm above Norway will fry Tom's computer later this week.
I could answer with frogs or snails, but I guess it wouldn't count as they're not weird to eat to me.
I speak Norwegian, English, Danish and Swedish(Granted, the nordic languages aren't THAT different) fluently. I understand and make myself understood in German, I understand the basics of Spanish/Italian, and I can distinguish Japanese/Chinese/Korean.
I've been wanting to pick up Cantonese or Italian, but I never got around to it, and now I don't really have time to school myself.
I am very disappointed in you.
The bass is too loud on the guitar, but your voice sounds really great. Very close to Bennington's voice on this one, too.
That's no moon. That's an anamorphic lens flare.
He's got an amazing voice. That's one hell of a voice range.
Loved it guys! You could do more of these for Sad Max, with cool harmonics stuff!
Can't decide whether I'm excited or not. I need to watch Star Trek again, it's been a while.
When I read sentences like that, I just want to flip the table, yell "Fuck it", and go lose my mind playing Minecraft for days in a row (once again, might I add).
Ah, the "I show you the ending right at the beginning to get your attention". The Prestige does that too.
Once you know how the show works, you appreciate the characters and story over the production value.
We're in agreement here, I just see the first part of your sentence as "one series" instead of "one episode". Basically, it's the same thing, except you get to finish a season instead of stopping right in the middle, which is harder to ask your friends to do. That's how I went with the first friend I showed DW to, but he liked Smith so much he just continued with series 6 and 7.
I absolutely don't see DW's first series as "when it was crap for a while", but I think it's harder to get your friends not to see it this way. That's where Smith's era can help.
There definitely is no such thing as "It's old so it's okay". I watched Unbreakable for the first time the other night. I didn't know about, well, you know. It hit me right in the face, took me completely unaware. This is something I know won't happen with The Sixth Sense, because I've been spoiled its twist about a thousand times in the last years. Even by Dr. Cox in Scrubs. Jesus.
Shyamalan's a twist ending freak. Whether or not they're always clever is another debate. But for Pete's sake, why would people want to ruin the biggest part of the movie for others?
In which case, I'd be interested to know your reaction to the events of Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead. Watching the show as it was broadcast, this was the first time I saw River Song. I've been wondering whether seeing the rest of her story first changes the impact of this one, particularly if you don't know it's coming.
Whoops, forgot to answer this last time. Sorry.
I didn't know it was coming, and yeah, it did have some impact knowing who she was already. I'd say both ways to go with it are interesting, because there's an impact either way.
By the way, I'm kinda coming back to Teague's viewing order. A second friend of mine got curious about DW, so this time I tried making him start with series 1. He told me it was boring, and that he'd try with series 5. Maybe it still won't be his thing, but it made me realize that starting with series 1 when you don't know the first thing about DW can be harder than you'd think it would be.
When I watched series 5, it got me really excited. I loved the humour, the character, and the amazing picture. Going back to series 1, I didn't care about the overall "older", "cheaper" tone. I have to admit, just as MasterZap said, I didn't really love Rose's environment. But I was thrilled anyway, because I wanted to know so much more about the Doctor. And what better way to begin than with Eccleston and his "I just got out of the Time War" Doctor?
So yeah. I think this is actually pretty clever, and in the future, I might stick to beginning with Smith.
Man, Dracula is a long read. It's about 300 pages, but the writing style is a bit old (the book is only more than a century old, after all), so I can't read it for more than a few pages in a row. Can't say some of the chapters are terribly fascinating, too.
I like the poll format. Imma follow it.
1. That would depend on the spoiler itself. If it's about a major character dying in a TV show, it's awful - but it won't ruin the whole show for you, as the show probably isn't about that character only. Now, it still is a spoiler and it should avoid being told for a certain amount of time, but if the whole movie is based on it, I'd say this amount of time has to be far greater.
To be honest, I hate spoilers so much I don't even consider such a thing as public domain for them. A warning is fair when talking about a movie, and I don't see any reason why anyone would go like "Oh what the hell, it's an extraordinary movie but it's twenty years old, you can't possibly care, can you?".
2. Most definitely. When people tell me "There's a huge twist at the end but hey, I'm not telling you anything", it feels like a spoiler to me. As Doc Submarine said, if you're expecting it, it won't work as well as it should.
3. Not further than the official pitch would. Setting up what the movie talks about is enough, and if the person wants to know more, hell, let them watch it.
4. I never would. If anything, it would cause the opposite effect to me.
5. I think it happened once, but it was so long ago I can't quite remember it. Hating getting spoiled makes you wary about it.
6. Back when I still watched Dexter, someone spoiled the season 4 ending for me right after I started it. I was NOT happy, especially since it was, and still is its most thrilling season to me.
But I have a weapon now. Tons of people around me watch Game of Thrones. But I'm probably the only one who has read all the books. They'd better be careful.
Talking about The Sixth Sense. I still haven't seen it, but I already know what its great Shyamalanian twist is. It's old stuff now, it's become a joke - even Cox says it in Scrubs. But the fact that I already know it is probably a good reason why I still havent watched it. It certainly does lower the excitement.
...I'm quite the spoiler freak, ain't it.
EDIT : Dave, you bloody aussie bastard.
The 2013 version of my school's advertisement film just came out. It's pretty great, and I even appear in it, hot damn.
I started making the cube in Maya too out of curiosity, and the corners aren't that easy to figure out indeed, especially if they're meant to be smoothed. Good job!
You look so cute on this thumbnail. It's like you're asking us to enter the amazing lightwave ship (which can look tiny like this but is huge on the inside) with you and have fun all across the universe.
Also, you're insane - *like* - I don't think I'll be watching them anytime soon as I'm already learning 3D with Maya at school right now, but it's great.
All right, there it is. I've just finished David Tennant's era.
...yeah I'm gonna go cuddle my pillow and softly cry all night. I can't believe I'm done with Tennant. I just can't, and I know it will take a long time for me to get over it. He definitely is my Doctor. I'll miss him so much, dammit. I feel like a little girl.
And right now it doesn't make me want to go back to Smith, which doesn't do him justice because he's great. But it's like I'm in mourning. No show has done this to me before.
Anyway. I can contribute a bit more about all this now.
And I have to agree with vidi-Tomahawk (what's with all the nicknames changes around here, dammit). Making people start with series 5 doesn't set them in the right state of mind, in my opinion.
When they go back to series 1, it can be quite a shock, and leave them unwilling to go further with it. I personnally didn't have a problem with it, but I can see why some people could.
I showed DW to a friend, making him go with the same order, and while I think it will work for him eventually, he did tell me the change was a bit unsettling. What Doctor Who looks like from series 5 onwards still isn't what most of the revival looks like.
Additionnaly, while the Tenth/Eleventh transition cut most of the ongoing stories related to the Doctor, I think the recurring elements (Dalek, River, etc.) lack part of their substance without all the background from the first four series.
All right, so I've managed to see only three movies this year. I had completely lost the habit of going to the theater, and was busy catching up with older movies I still had to see, but I'm getting better. Please note that Django Unchained has yet to be released in France.
Here goes :
1. The Hobbit
2. Dark Shadows
3. Prometheus
I loved 1, enjoyed it completely. 2 was a very powerful "meh", to say the least. And 3... I don't even want to go there.
Damn, was 2012 a poor movie year for me. Only three movies, and only one of them actually entertained me. Welcome, 2013.
Yep, Edmund McMillen. Love this guy. Also, both soundtracks are by Danny Baranowsky. Super Meat Boy's soundtrack is in my top five video games soundtracks ever.
I'm recently obsessed with The Binding of Isaac, maybe the hardest game I've ever played. It's one of the very few games where I can honestly say that practice and skill are required to succeed.
You should try Super Meat Boy, from the same guy who made Isaac. Your definition of hardest will change once again.
Thanks. Awesome. Take some pictures!
