Depends on how you play it. If you play as survival horror, survive the nightly zombies and skeletons and work your way through to defeating an ender dragon, then it's more of a game. If you play just to create stuff, as I do, it's more of a toy - the sort of thing that deserves the label "sandbox" more than most. I don't believe that there's a specific term for such things, so toys in the trappings of a video game are something that I would still refer to as games, just a new genre of them.
Hm, FilmCritHulk, what's tha-

Boy, this had better be good.
And of what I read, it is. (I... skimmed the last fifth or so, couldn't take it anymore.) Good find.
Tom, if the decision is to film tomorrow, let me know. I can also text one of you when I leave the shoot tomorrow so you have a good idea of when I'll be able to pop in.
Brand new Sony Alpha 99, thirty-year-old Minolta lenses from eBay.
No longer shooting HDV.
Cool. I usually use Goldwave but to reduce complexity I'll make sure I have Audacity on here.
The shoot just got confirmed today unfortunately. Fortunately it's at 1, so I should be wrapped up by 3, an hour away from where I live. If you can start at 4 EST, then I can hop on when I get in (might be 4:15 or something, call me in or whatever). Or, if 3 is what you need to do, I'll message you when I get in and if you're still going I can hop in.
I *may* also get back earlier than 4, depends on how the interviews go, at which point I'll let you know I'm in.
TL;DR: I can do 4 but if you need to do 3 then I can join in when I get back.
You normally use Skype to get everyone together, correct? Or do I need to get some different software?
(Nate totally admitted he understands that mine is probably more accurate but he just prefers the aesthetic of his. Seriously. That happened.)
(And you, meanwhile, had to modify your usual aesthetic to get it to look right in HD. Compromises!)
Personally, I was so not on board with the live-action stuff when it first appeared. It felt like a slap in the face after getting so invested in the story to be told, "LOL fuck you it's all made-up and there are no real stakes!"
I felt the same way, like it pulled a back a bit and I was trying to race through, "But what does this mean, and this, and this," but the movie went, "Don't worry, it'll be alright. That house you feel like you were kicked out of? It's part of a larger, warmer house. You're still here, safe and sound. Home." In Morgan Freeman's voice.
I loved this movie so much. I wasn't expecting the father/son story at all and it really made things work*. Emmet's story is no less real when we find out that the broad strokes of it are the Son playing with his father's collection.
*I almost said "click", wouldn't have been able to live with myself.
Weekends are best for me (though this upcoming is booked), but I might be able to swing next Wednesday. I need to check the schedule to see if we have an interview shoot that night, I'll post when I know for sure.
I play Minecraft a decent amount, but I'm not involved in the community with mods or anything like that. So I don't know how much I could contribute... but I'd potentially be interested if you've got to put butts in seats.
The Man From Earth (2007)

I've been meaning to watch this one for a while, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Hawaiian pizza is awesome.
I have a hard time picturing Jeremy Irons as Alfred, because when I think of him I think of hammier roles. First thing I saw him in was as the saving grace of the first Dungeons & Dragons.
Maybe I should watch Kingdom of Heaven again to remind myself he can do real roles and gravitas, too.
I am a sucker for sunsets so your monorail shot has captivated the entirety of my interests. Show me more.
How about V for Vendetta? No face at all except for what's immutable on the mask.
Also, I don't know if you've played Halo 4. He's a lot more involved in the story in it, more dialogue and more things to do than go places, shoot stuff. (Well, gameplay is still go places, shoot stuff, but the framing story does a good job of going above that.) By the end of it, I was emotionally invested in him as a character, too.

Personally, Blomkamps 5 minute, or whatever it was, Halo short film was more than enough to prove to me that it would work in spades, but the studio still pulled the funding and refuses to put it back. So we sit and wait for them, as usual, to get their head out their ass.
Landfall was good, but it felt more like a proof of concept. Might be because of budget or something, but the CG to me felt very early 2000s. "Look, we can do CG!" Or something, not quite sure how to put it. Whereas Unto Dawn *worked*.
That being said, pulling funding for the Halo movie gave us District 9, and in the end I was okay with this.
Agreed of Forward Unto Dawn, and I enjoyed the BTS features on the disc more than many studio releases.
Neat to see what's changed but even neater to see what's stayed the same. Coming from the other side of the Atlantic, I don't know that too many of our cities would be that recognizable eighty-six years ago.

An artist friend of mine did the illustrating and color for the new counting book, The Dragon and the Princess.
I ran out of Young Jedi Knight books that I'd brought along on my honeymoon cruise this past week (bad weather meant a lot of relaxed reading time) and picked up Patrick Rothfuss' The Wise Man's Fear from the gift shop onboard. It's the second book of The Kingkiller Chronicle, and I haven't read the first. Still, though it takes some effort to get into since it's meant to be read after The Name of the Wind, I'm really enjoying it. The writing style is really enjoyable and the only negative I give it is an overuse of the word "clever", though I wonder if it's intentional lingual overuse by the author making characters use it the same way I use "cool".
That traffic video... so many monochrome cars, blech.
More reviews should start, "I went to Walmart today..."
I seem to be far less critical of movie than most of you folk. As I said, I enjoyed Elysium and you know what, I enjoyed Lone Ranger too. Liked Oblivion, Really liked World's End even though it took it a while to warm up.
Not saying you guys are wrong. Just saying I'm glad that apparently I can enjoy more movies.
(Also this probably makes me the enemy or something for paying for and encouraging this "crap". Sorry/notsorry?)

Not according to Jezebel.
Oh great, another movie about a dude who's SO DESERVING OF LOVE but just can't his shit together enough to date a real woman.
Well, that's Jezebel for you. They're like the kind of feminist that most feminists wish would just shut up because really, they're not helping.
