most "film buffs" I talk to tend to take the piss out of it, and I just don't see why. I found it freakin' stellar. So much fan service in there that fans "didn't know they wanted". My best friend hates TLJ, and thinks TROS was an apology for it, but that guy also likes Transformers, so he's a lost cause really.
The thing about TLJ is that is split the fanbase almost right down the middle. It's almost a perfect 50/50 for the love/hate relationship about it. I get the hate, but at the same time, what the fuck did you want, really? You want ANH/ESB/ROTJ again? Just go watch those.
Although, it should be mentioned that said best friend thinks that ROTS is the best in the series, so his opinion is pretty much invalid.
Disclaimer: I like ROTS just fine. It's arguably the strongest of its trilogy. But I have a weak spot for TPM( I watched it in the theaters at 13, and I still like it), so it's hard to admit ROTS being better.
AOTC is pretty bad though.
But at the end of the day, I guess I just appreciate all of them. For what they are. "kids" movies. TLJ was trying damn hard NOT to be that, and I think it succeeded, but some of my friends just wants that infamou "Star Wars" back, and are not able to comprehend that the series didn't grow with us, they were made for 3 different generations, and I think they all managed to do that just fine.
I find TROS to be a good ending to the saga. Sure, it could've been better, but it could've been so, so much worse. At the end of a 42 year run, you want to close it as safe as possible, trying to please the new and old fans, and I think JJ did a damn good job out of it. There are so many options he could've used, so many plot lines, so many chances, but in the end, he did what he did with TFA; played it safe, with a few twists. He did good. He didn't do excellent, but he did good.
This is a movie composed entirely of gesture and reference and shades of iconography without any deeper sense of what these building blocks mean or why they matter. It's a desperate plea for these things to be loved because you loved them once upon a time, not because of what they represent or what resonance new context could give them. And even that kind of feeble parody is beyond its grasp--the imagery is slathered so thick it becones ridiculous and ugly, the score strains to thrill but is only a tired ghost of what it was, the plotlines that reach into the past take all the things about this trilogy that were genuinely new and vital and stamp them into the ground. Its appeal to past joys is so overwhelming that it kills anything that made us love these new characters--there is no interiority here, no inner lives or motivations, just puppets hurtling from beat to beat to serve a pyramid of retcons and reversals because "it's what the fans want."
"You may find," says a certain alien in a certain other space franchise, "that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting." And after all their entitled, witless, screaming wanting, this--this clumsy, cowardly, shambling reanimated corpse--is all the fans will have.
Not too far from what I would say about for instance, Return of the Jedi, which takes elements from ANH and re-hashes them.
Also very opposite of TLJ, which I assume you also didn't enjoy. I assume this based on generalization, as most "film-people" tend to not like it, not because it's you.
I enjoyed TROS. Was it the best film ever? Of course not. It made me somehow like TLJ even more, as it took some of the story started in it, and didn't completely tr to ignore, like some people would have me believe. Yes, the fact that Kylo rebuilds his mask seems like it's JJ just liking the prop, but also Luke was "redeemed" towards the end of TLJ, and I think it was respectfully handled in this one as well.
There was a ton of fan service. And guess what? I'm a fan. I feel serviced.
thanks guys!
You can now find us on all your music providers.
Fold Decay - Flesh/wound should now be your favorite tune
it's offical. My band "Fold Decay" will be online on all the streaming sites and purchasable within a week.
The final mix is done, and was not made by me, because I suck.
The final song is avaible for all who wants to hear it at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/p4iya7wh6sbt … 0delay.wav
I'm not even gonna make a linkable link, because that's tacky, and I'd like y'all to just copy-paste that instead.
I'm also not sure who dropped the mic.
Be certain, links will be dropped once it's online proper. If even ONE person purchases it on iTtunes, we'll be profressionals, and it's all I'll take!
It's actually blues-ish.
check your dms.
I'll post the dry tracks if you want them.
Bass will be re-recorded as it's actually a bit inconsistent and he missed on the timing every now and then. Then I will get some compression on it.
Drums will probably also have to be re-done, as I can't work my head around getting them to sound cool.
drew; I don't know what you mean about Spanish guitars, but if you're talking about the main riff throughout the song, and in the intro; at least I know what you're talking about.
bgii: Will look into that, thanks!
Will also be sending the dry tracks to a "producer/agent/friend" to see what he can come up with too. Should be fun, as this is above my paygrade, albeit fun to learn.
Mixing vocals for me, is the hardest, as I'm my own worst critic. I can hear every flaw and missed note, every misssed beat etc more than the others in the band, because, well, they don't know how I hear my performance should be.
well, to be fair, that's also way, way before the internet was even a conceivable idea, and where you could even change the spoken language at the touch of a button. Back then, the odds of a movie trailer hitting you, was as big as the odds of you visiting your local theatre, and that they would have that specific trailer film.
I mean, that's a great poster and all, but I get why it's not standard anymore.
I don't. But I still endorse this project.
Hey.
My band is currently making our first single, and yours truly is mixing the demo, to send out etc.
Thing is, I don't know the first thing about this stuff. I've learned some from youtube and shit, but it's honesly fallen to me to do it, as the others don't know jack shit about it.
As such, I ask you lot. I'm sharing the single in it's current state, and I'd love for you to take a listen to it, and tell me what I need to work on. I don't need/want comments on the song itself, but rather the mixing of it. It's hard to do, as all speakers/headphones produce different results.
Some say the bass is too prominent, some say it's not even there. Some say the drums need more punch, some say they're too much already etc.
So, sound guys, give me what you got!
or, alternatively, if any of you work in Logic, and want to look at it, let me know, and I will make that happen too!!
Disclaimer:
Yes, you are of course allowed to listen to it for curiosity, if you're not a sound guy, just to listen to our new demo, and give comments on the song itself, but you know, it's not done. The timing, layout and such is done, however, and we need to re-record vocals at least, and it's still very much a WIP.
that last one is amazingly cool!
The other ones seem like standard instagram photos, but to be fair, most of the accounts I follow on instagram are photography accounts, so they're all good.
doesn't look random, really.
Already a classic, because it looks like a fucking classic already.
I'm gonna have to wait for download/stream/blu-ray for that one, as I'm 100% sure the local cinema will never show it, but damn, that looks like it's right up my alley.
4K HDR. Man I love that shit.
I mean, say what you will about Film vs Video, etc.
But holy cow. I upgraded my netflix just to watch Stranger Things 2/3 in HDR, and my, that shit is off the hook. I got an HDR 4K TV primarily because of games, but HDR is pretty damn awesome!
as to the latest movie I watched? I guess that'd have to be "The Wandering Earth" on Netflix.
Now, that is probably the coolest thing I've watched in ages. It isn't good. It's surprisingly mediocre, but it's a spectactle well worth the time, and while the physics and story don't make sense at all, it's a well made movie I'd highly recommend, if only for the visuals!
Teague; thank you!
I now need that poster!
I've been looking into getting all 6(although 9+ now) theatrical posters for the Star Wars saga to put up on my walls, and the more authentic the better. I've never even seen that poster before, and it's great!
I don't know if this counts as dubious. I'm in a band. We played covers. Then we made our own music.
This is the first time we performed an original song infront of a live audience.
It's called "Flesh/Wound", and falls in the hard rock category.
That's me singing.

Would be cool if y'all hit that like button. But only if you actually like it. If you click it and didn't, I'll know!
Wait, is Teague in a depressive state? That doesn't happen! But if it does, man, talk to us. You know better than to not talk to the one place online where you absolutely can talk about this sort of stuff!
Yes. All the yes.
But.
Remember that kids these days didn't grow up with cartoons, and more likely cartoons will be a niche product. I don't like that fact at all, but it's how it might come to pass. As such, getting some classics like Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, will, if not be as great as their cartoon counterparts, at least have a younger audience grow up with great Disney stories, and be just as nostalgic about those in 20 years.
It's not a bad thing, really. It's just that we grew up with what we now call masterpieces, the same way they will grow up with what they might come to call masterpieces in the future.
The problem I have with these remakes is not that they suck. I still haven't watched a single one of them, and I don't think I will, but they're just remakes. Taking the same story, and in some cases, the same voices(I'm looking at you, James Earl Jones), and the same music, and just applying it to a live-action or CG film instead. I'm not opposed to the idea, I just don't understand why it's neccessary to remake a film at all, unless it's something that clearly didn't have the budget to be what it wanted to be 30 years ago, and now is done "correctly". Most of these Disney classics didn't lack the budget per se, but were animated for reasons. Now, they have the budget they "deserved" back in the day, and that leads us to live-action or CG. Which is probably what they would've done 20+ years ago, if the tech was there, and we'd probably love it as much now as we did then if they did.
Toy Story is a great example, because it was what, 3 years after the Lion King, and a CG film. It did amazing back in the day, but we're not remaking it now looking better, because it was CG as good as they could back then, and while the sequels are not needed, they do get more impressive, technically each time.
I don't know. I don't have a problem with remakes, I just tend to not watch them. But I'm happy the next generation will, because they may not watch the older movies simply "because they're old". I'm quoting my 13 year old son here, who was hesitant to watch Back to the Future because it was old(but loved them), and if that's anything to go by, it's nice to know that even though our future generations may not watch what we did, they'll still love the stories they told, through a new media.
Fuck yeah.
I have notes, but nothing that is a dealbreaker, this project is amazing, and I wish we could bring it back! Especially for myself, as I've grown a lot in the 3 years since this launched, It was great seeing the whole thing though, kudos Boter!
Jaysus, that's fuckin' dark.
Instagram is great. As are you. But all other social media sucks.
As does instagram, if I'm honest, but that's neither here nor there.
I'll tell you what I think. I'm really excited for this, I really am!
But I live in Norway.
I didn't watch it. Hence; I didn't even know they were recording an episode!
