Is that why I can't get the voices out of my head?

I do admire, in a way, the trolling they've done. The goal is seems was to post a video to make Muslims riot, in the hope... well, probably that the West would nuke anyone brown (the same general idea Charles Manson had). So, they get some actors, have them make one no budget short, then redub all the dialog with anti-Islamic soundbites. Put it online. When nobody notices, do a quick Arabic translation and try again. Instant "see, we told you they were like that!" moment.

yeah, that's mentioned in HBO's From The Earth to the Moon. The Apollo 8 crew got flack fro their reading from the bible while rounding the moon Christmas Eve, so Buzz was told not to do anything publicly.

It's quiet today, so assuming everyone didn't get raptured I'll post a topic for discussion. Most have probably heard about the trailer for a anti-Mohamad movie that is getting some... enthusiastic reviews in some countries. It's part of a modern trend: years ago, nobody cared (partly because they never found out, but then they also were under foreign rule for much of the time and any protests were local and quickly resulted in executions).

Now, on the one hand, freedom to mock the faith of others is a hard won freedom. Most of the world has learned to, when seeing their beliefs treated badly, sigh, protest a bit, but otherwise let it be. Maybe if we treat Islam the same way Christianity has been treated, eventually Muslims will come to the same point.

On the other hand... we KNOW what the current reaction will be. Your artistic and religious freedom will get others killed in places where there is none.

Discuss.

The original Doctor Who was a kids show produced by the Drama department of the BBC, because the children's show department didn't want it. Probably one reason the death count has always been on the high side smile

If you want shite morals in film, just look at many Japanese horror movies. People die, not because they've wronged someone or some spirit, but just because they're there. Totally not their fault.

Well, that is just part of the show. He's dropped into a situation one person logically shouldn't be able to solve, and he solves it (often by killing all involved on both sides, but, hey, it's solved). In the Unit days, he would try and reason with the Aliens only to have Unit kill all of them (see the 3rd Doctor's meeting with the Silurians).

Given how many one time characters Who has in any given season, it's always going to draw in many actors from other shows.

The Daleks... aren't what they used to be, I agree smile As with any old enemy, you have to try extra hard to do something good and new, and for you new viewers that might not work. Maybe it's time to bring back Davros...

What the heck, I'll contribute to this area. For the past year or so, I've been writing. I did a bit years ago, getting to the point where I was on the verge of releasing a self published comic (until we got those first issue orders in: shut that down real fast!). Got back into it last summer. I'm not putting out great art, but I'm having fun and have a fan base of a few thousand. I have my stories at Storiesonline.net, under the name Invid Fan, as well as my own site. The site and images are work safe, some of the words and ideas aren't. At the moment I'm doing two chapters a week about a grocery store that ended up on another planet [The Bells of Tanah, and the ongoing sequel The Bells of Home].

I'm available for script meetings.

It may be more disappointment on his part. After all, the difference between a story set in a time period and a movie MADE back then is you can look back and have some fun with it. Either go all Blazing Saddles, or play up the racism to get the point across. I'd love, for example, to see a Buck Rodgers show that had the original evil Mongol Chinese going after white women. The original League of Extraordinary Gentlemen went that way, with the horrible movie changing the bad guy into iirc some German.

There was a podcast doing commentaries the day after the show aired in the UK, and that was their theory as the season went on. Daleks brought back into being a proper empire, entire universe rebooted so anything unwanted could now be ignored, etc. They fully expected the return of all the timelords the way it was going.

Although, sort of like the Borg each later use lessened them. Already by the second time the rules were being changed as the plot needed it.

Also, with regard to the 11th Doctor's first season (it's season 31, not 5 smile), I like the theory that it was an attempt to reboot the show, throwing out much of the new stuff RTD had brought in. Season 32 was to get rid of the "mythic" Doctor, the figure known the universe over. Which is interesting as Moffat was the one who did most of the newer stories that created that myth. Almost as if, now that he was running things, he realized, "Whoops!"

Oh, I'm sure this is it, but like I said my memory only links up with the linked episode once they're in the house eating pie. That I remember different scenes before that is the interesting part (my memory of a longer chase afterwards may have merged with the long chase before, which I had no memory of ^_^)

I posted about this at my blog yesterday on Storiesonline.net. A day later, we've almost made it. I'll take full credit smile

OK, this is amazing... yes, the end of that fits the details of what I remember. However, it LOOKS nothing like I remember! My memory has it slower, more scary (the reason I remembered it). I'm sure it's something Dad and I caught the end of flipping through the channels, and my young mind filled in stuff to cover what I didn't understand. I will say I don't think The Goodies was something we watched.

OK, here's another one. Late 70's early 80's. I'm going to assume some sort of British show that isn't Python, seen on either PBS or some Canadian channel (we got lots of them with a good UHF antenna). The actors are rabbits. Basically, just guys with bunny ears. The one, for some reason, tricks another rabbit into eating cake that ISN'T carrot cake, but is... Rabbit cake! The second rabbit is now a cannibal! He's horrified for a moment... then realizes he likes it. He then realizes his friend is a rabbit, and proceeds to chase him with a fork as the credits run.

A definite what the fuck moment in my childhood.

Heh. Reminds me of seeing Land of the Lost and, to a greater extent, H.R. Puffinstuf. The kid NEVER got home!

Aztecs is a good story.  Even heard that there might be a special edition version of it could be done.

Are they going to undo the previous special edition? If memory serves, they "fixed" some of the sets, so you could no longer see where they ended. That's just wrong smile

And, really... you shouldn't think seasons when it came to Classic Who. It's all about the individual stories. Well, apart from the first few seasons, when each 30 minute episode had its own title and it was treated as a continuous story where the setting changed every few weeks...

In fact, I'd only show her the very first episode of the first story, as the last three aren't that good (they end up with some cavemen). Pair the pilot up with the two part Edge of Destruction, one of the few "sideways" episodes of the series, a concept that was originally going to be mixed equally with them going forward and backwards in time. Or, better yet, also add the four part The Aztecs. The Doctor arguing they shouldn't stop the human sacrifices is lots of fun smile

My argument wouldn't be that Totoro is ahead of Star Wars, but that Totoro is the highest animated film on the list. It's great, but not even the best Miyazaki film let alone the best animated movie.
