We're three dudes doing this thing in our spare time for free (or negative money, in my case, heh) and real life occasionally gets in the way, so the process has slowed considerably since recording. It's getting there, slowly but surely. Early demos of the "fun" songs have been in my car for a month, and they're already rad, so this thing really is gonna be awesome once it's done.

Guessing a timeframe is an act of completely making dates up, but I'd imagine it'll be done this year. *shrug*

To quote the "Road Trip"

Teague, you done great keeping this thing alive, so no doubts about it when it is in it's full glory. So, personally, not worried about it. It will happen it it will happen big_smile

the nihilism of the film

But the thing is, as explored in the WAYDM commentary, the movie really is not ultimately nihilistic. It's an optimistic look at a hopeful secular philosophy and humanity.

To clarify, I do not belief that the end message is nihilism, or that it doesn't have some sort of hopefulness to it. Also, as I mentioned, it is a technically well done film.

However, the nihilism of the characters, not the film's ultimate theme, is what is the disconnect for me. To me, The Narrator (Edward Norton) is unsympathetic, and childish. I feel little connection to him and only understand his plight in the sense that I sometimes hate my job and can't sleep.

I can see how it can can resonate with many people, but it isn't for me and I hardly see it as the almost cult classic it has become.

We could have code names.

Any chance for an exit by Seattle? I can hitch from there.

Also, rocket cars, rocket cars in the tunnel.

I do not like "Fight Club."

I understand while many may like it, and the construction of the movie is fine. But, the nihilism of the film and the almost cardboard feeling of the characters I get makes it difficult to connect with them. When the end twist is revealed, it actually pulls me out of the movie because I sit there and analyze when his split happen, how that impacted his life, and why in the thunder hasn't he been arrested yet!

Then things blow up and I'm left going, "What?"

Doesn't work for me.

I will do some research and practice. My wife has a good ear for accents so she might be able to help coach me.

I am a bit surprised by the sudden resurgence of the biblical epic. I had wondered, about 6 years ago, if that could ever be a thing again, in the same vein as Ben-Hur and The Ten Commandments.

Apparently, it can be. Also, interesting read. I don't blame them for using CG animals but I'll be curious to see the end result.

Wow...just, wow.

I love the light box concept and hope to see it more in films. That is a great concept.

I can see this being THAT movie were being closer to the screen, being surrounded by the blackness of space, would give a much more immersive and detailed experience.

However, I haven't seen the film, but, I find it interesting that it is being held up, as far as space related films go, as the benchmark. It is curious to see that opinion evolve, and maybe I'm too skeptical for my own good, but it makes me wonder how seriously this film will be taken as far effects go.

I mentioned this in the chat a bit ago, since I didn't know if October scary movie would be a thing or not this year, but the Ring was one I suggested. Not sure if anyone else is game, but it is a weirdly twisted movie that doesn't always work, so good for analysis.

EPSN does some great documentaries. I was honestly surprised by how enjoyable and in depth they go with their material. Not saying they don't do quality work, but it was a level I was not expecting. Be great to hear your thoughts on them

Doc, I don't think it'll upset your sensibilites too much. We shall see. It's entirely possible I'll do the slim cut and go "eh, nevermind."

BDA, I'm not married to the black and white, but right now the project looks a lot more consistent than it would without the black and white. Even with my CC pass bringing everything together, the difference in quality of footage (and quality of chips) really jumps out at you in color. *shrug* I'm fiddlin,' might go either way.

I like the B&W a lot, as it does provide more coherency in the shots, like you said.

I know you're going for slimmer, but some inserts of people lounging might give the impression that this is taking a long time, even to the cast members.

Fireproof - the idea behind doing a slimmer cut is to try to maintain the pacing established at the beginning there. It's doable, I just overwrote the shit out of this thing to try to cram everyone in. Some entire cast members might be lost in the attempt, come to think of it.  neutral

You can cut my part. While I enjoy being a part of the project, I also am aware that it seems to lag the pacing, though that just might be me.

I think the opening is still my favorite part, with Teague, Ewing and Dave with the rope.

However, it is definitely a fine job and again, glad to see it come together.

wasn't it the one with Transporter Chief Terri Hatcher?

"Comedy" being a loose definition. Okana is supposed be cracking jokes, similar to an 80's version of Captain Jack Sparrow.

Your mileage may vary.

Also, yes to the Terri Hatcher. Also, Joe Piscopo...
