Honestly, reading through the thread, I'm pretty sure what was expected and hoped for was a lighthearted thing where it's inherently assumed everyone respects each other and we just fuck around and talk about our varying opinions on a TV show.

I'm not sure how it got off the rails, but I'm willing to call it a fluke in this case. If it becomes a recurring thing, maybe we'll have to figure out how to address the miscommunication of tone and stuff like that, but... like I said, in the meantime, for this one, I'm thinkin' we call it a fluke and abandon the contention.

Great story. Well told.

I have to point out that the way this thing is made is by starting with a solid piece of cinefoil, like... foil, and then meticulously cutting out the holes with a super-sharp knife. Like, I watched him do some practice runs, and they took hours. So much goddamned focus.

In other words, it looks so perfect and consistent, I'm worried people will mistake this for being easier than it was.

Super rad.

If you just upload them (unlisted) to YouTube, I'd be able to rip 'em at high rez but with YouTube's compression settings. That'd work.

BDA, homeboy's just takin' the piss. I think the spirit here was intended to be more kiddin' around than aggressively insulty.

Whoa, folks. Let's pull back on the stick a bit. We're all good.

Early still in my thinkin,' but where I'm at now is that Reddit's system for sorting multi-threaded conversations and making it easy to go back in time and follow different tangents is about as good as that can be.

Most of the improvements to that sorting method would be implementation details and navigation, not the arrangement philosophy itself. Hm.

Oh, this is just a once-only thing? I thought it was an "every week" contest, where the podcast is just the stringout of the best entries from that week. Like a crowdsourced, crowdsorted This American Life.

...

I have an idea.

Yeah, Reddit's threading is pretty confusing if you don't install a toolkit like Reddit Enhancement Suite, which does a few things to make reading and navigating it clearer.

Well, I don't watch it, which helps me not like it. I don't like it for the same reason I don't like your friends — I don't know 'em. Nuthin' personal.

That said, the reason I don't watch it is because my first and only exposure to it yielded a negative reaction. Started with the first episodes of the first season, and found it confusing and uninspiring and soap-opera-y and like too much of a hassle to try to keep up with.

(Then again, this was happening while I was in a severe dilaudid haze, the night after the A Few Good Men commentary, where I had to leave mid-episode to deal with a sudden kidney stone. So I wasn't exactly primed for it, either. I was pretty much hallucinating dragons to begin with, GoT was just pilin' it on.)

That said, not-watching-shows is a problem I have. I often find them hard to follow even when I'm not in a pukey, euphoric post-hospital drug fugue. Hell, I often stop watching shows I like. So, maybe I'm not the guy to ask.

Hm. I see what you're saying — I don't have a problem with it myself, but then again, I'm totally fluent in message board at this point, and have gotten used to scrolling up to give myself more context when I need it. I can see the barrier to entry there. Lemme think about it.

So far, all of my reactions and understanding to this idea have mirrored BDA's. Subreddit, Facebook's threading is weird and mostly vertical, etc..

Which, I like subreddits a lot, but I also have well over a decade of experience with message boards, so I'm good with either.

Wow.

200...4, maybe? I'm trying to remember the title, too. It might be something like "Untitled." "Scripts?" Something.

This is odd as far as "creations" go, but I just spent like three hours on a giant Reddit post in /r/VFX. Again.

Clicky.

Yes. I am not sure... exactly why Jaws was cut off like that, because it wasn't cut off before the [redacted] changeover. But, whatever. Here's this. The one on the page now links to this as well.

That is hilarious. What. What on Earth.

The other one like that for me is from Eternal Sunshine, where I'm talking about being in a giant sink like that and how much that would freak you out, and then... like, to sum-up my point? what?... in this conspiratorial voice, I just go "I'm... I'm tiny."
