Was the voice at the end the guy in the White Suit in the apartment? Sounded the same to me...

Yes, it is.   To be honest I'm not a fan of the actor's performance, he was just available for free on short notice.  wink If we continue the series I may retroactively replace the voice so we can cast somebody else.

Anyway...

As I write this, the Ark Intermission episode has yet to be released - and when it does this thread may become the official discussion thread for it, or not.   I dunno, that'll be a Teague thing.  But I figure why not go ahead and do this now, I can always repost it if necessary...

To recap: Ark is curently viewable in the U.S. on Hulu, but nowhere else in the world.  This is not because we don't WANT Ark to be seen worldwide, it's because Hulu's territory is U.S. only, and Hulu is the only site (so far) that's hosting Ark.   The rights to Ark in the rest of the world are still available.

So the same week we delivered the episodes to Hulu, I uploaded them to YouTube on the assumption that we'd use that as the platform to show Ark to the rest of the world.   They've been there ever since, set to Private mode, just waiting until I got the go-ahead to make them public.

Except, oops, Ark became an instant hit on Hulu.

Which meant Ark's owners (which, I remind you, I am not one of) realized they might do better than just throwing the episodes on YouTube, putting ads on them, and hoping the rest of the world stumbled on them.   The myth that putting something on YouTube guarantees viral success was debunked years ago, nobody (myself included) believes in that strategy any more.

So the owners made a deal with Content Media Corp, a distribution company that promotes independent films and tv shows - and now web series - overseas.  Content's mission is to try to place Ark with the French equivalent of Hulu, and the Belgian equivalent of Hulu, and (repeat with every country in the world).  For every buyer they find, Content gets a cut of the profit, and Ark gets a cut of the profit.   This is what distribution companies do, and have done for decades.

So check it out: Content has featured Ark nicely in their 2012 catalog (and I like playing find-the-Ark-thumbnails on the first page) and even more nicely in their Mipcom brochure.

But it's a hard sell, the episodes are short and it all ends on a cliffhanger that (so far) is not guaranteed to ever be resolved.  But whatever non-US country you live in, if you operate a website that gets millions of hits, by all means ring up Content and ask about hosting Ark.

If you don't happen to have a website like that, well, how about this... the relatively tiny number of participants in this forum won't damage the market value of Ark if you should happen to see it.  So I've thrown the switches on the episodes at YouTube from Private to Unlisted, which means they are now viewable if you know the link.

And (how's this for a switch!) they're blocked in the U.S. - you U.S. viewers can just keep on going to Hulu, where you will watch those Geico commercials and give thanks for them, as I do.

This is an honor-system thing, if the hit counts start going suspiciously higher than the approximate number of overseas members of this forum, I'll re-Private the videos.  So no sharing, no leaking, and by the way, they're un-embeddable.

If you agree to the above, then feel free to click this link.

I loved the Buffalo shout outs in this. What was the movie you worked on here, Trey?

It wasn't a movie, that was a flight simulator project.  I made a couple of trips to the Moog factory in Buffalo to consult on their simulator programming software.

Oddly enough, one of the reasons I got into the movie biz was in hopes of getting paid to travel.   The tally (thus far) turned out as follows

Places I've been sent to do simulator projects:  Buffalo, Minneapolis, Chicago, New York City, Seattle, Orlando, London, Liverpool, Berlin, Japan (4 times, different cities for different projects), and Seoul.

Places I've been sent to do movies:  Senoia, a tiny town an hour south of Atlanta

Yep.

Two-Headed Shark Attack, starring Carmen Electra.  Coming to video, well, 4 days from today, oddly enough.

Crazy idea.  Maybe if there's enough companing/annoying from us, they'll consider doing Rodger Rabbit right after the changes happens to DiF following 3/10.

That approach inspired us to NOT do Back to the Future for three years... how much time you got?

The Asylum is gearing up for their 15th anniversary celebration (yes, they've been successful for 15 years and counting, deal with it) and they've just released a teaser pic of their 15th anniversary poster.

With a hundred of their movies to choose from, lookie which one they featured front and center.   Yeah, baby!

*ahem* Close Encounters* *ahem*

Personally I vote we do the original, not the Special Edition, which wasn't very special at all.

In fact, didn't Spielberg disown that version later, or was it just the ET tweakage that he regretted?

Looks like I'm actually going to have to watch Airbender finally, and ya know what?  I hope I LOVE it.    Because then we're gonna have one hell of a commentary.

/yeah, I probably won't love it
/might still pretend I do, though

Very good picks. Are the other movies going to be DIF'd at some point?

Once we move on from weekly commentaries, it would take maybe a year to do just the rest of that list.   During which time, other movies will get released that might deserve our *ahem* special kind of attention.... so who knows?

It is safe to say that of all the movies we could do, we will never do most of them.  But that was always the case.

I dunno if anyone else on the panel has seen the Avengers (either version), and I dunno how much I'd have to say about it mmyself, other than what I just did.  smile.

And that Diana Rigg as Mrs. Peel remains my ideal ass-kicking dreamgirl to this day.  mmmMMMMmmm.

What's interesting is that scene is exactly the sort of gonzo surreal thing they would have done on the original series, too.  There's just something about the tone of the movie that didn't work, even though on the surface it was trying to be faithful to the tv show.

I suspect The Avengers is too much a product of its time and place - it's possible to look at the original and appreciate its loopy sensibility in a quaint, nostalgic way... but it probably would require a new approach to the material to make it work for modern audiences.

Anyway, back to voting and stuff.

it sounded like you were REAL eager for the upcoming Avengers movie.

If only there WAS an upcoming Avengers movie.  The Ralph Fiennes/Uma Thurman version had such potential, and completely blew it.  Last Airbender is to Dorkman as The Avengers misfire is to me.  Grrr.  GRRRRR.

Definitely time for a reboot.

You're giving a lot more thought to our schedule than we do.  smile

Usually we don't start thinking about any particular weekend until about Thursday, when we suddenly remember that we have to do a show.  Then we email each other a lot, to figure out if and when everyone's available, and if there's enough time to do one movie or two or none, etc.

Down In Front:  Three years of chaos that, from a distance, looks like order.

True enough.   But asking for (and then collating) a column of seventeen votes per person is a bit more effort than this process probably deserves*.

If there were lives on the line, maybe.   This is just a list of potential movies for us to talk about on a podcast, there will be no curing of cancer.**.

---------------------------------

*the fact that we genuinely thought there were 18 films on the list suggests we shouldn't try to do too much math.

** there MAY be a cure for lupus as a result of this.  Results not guaranteed.

Ditto.  Lifeforce is jaw-droppingly wacko, but it has a lot of genuinely funny/twisted and scary moments.  I'd rather watch an at-least-they-tried-something misfire like Lifeforce than yet another rehash of Pirates of the Caribbean or Transformers, etc.

Also, Lifeforce is probably the only chance you'll ever get to see Patrick Stewart kiss another dude.  (At least that I'm aware of.)
