Were the movies he was homaging intentionally shitty?

Probably not. It's possible that they were self-aware of their own shittiness, however.

Death Proof can't really be viewed in a traditional way. It's intentionally shitty, in all the ways that Quentin's favorite films from that genre were. So as an homage, it's great. As a standalone movie, it's obviously shaky.

It's getting fantastic reviews. I haven't seen it yet. Honest question, what do you think the critics are seeing in it that you guys don't?

I haven't paid a bit of attention to this movie so far, and just now happened to read a two-sentence description of the ending.

If that description was accurate... yeeikes.  Promethean indeed.

I assume you're talking about

MASSIVE INTO DARKNESS SPOILER Show
Cumberbatch's magic blood? It might work in context. Certainly bears an uncomfortable similarity to Prometheus, though.

I think I've mentioned this before, but I find the Moffat/Smith run to be much more satisfying than the Davies/Tennant run. Honestly, a lot of Tennant's episodes are kinda hard to watch now. They're just so cheesy and hard to take seriously. I've never had that issue with Smith.

Holy fucking shit. Now I'm tempted to buy an extra ticket just to support these crazy bastards.

This is so much fun. My hat's off to them!

Tonight's episode was great. There were some moments that actually made me jump. I love the interplay between Clara and the TARDIS. Such a great, fresh dynamic for the show to introduce.

I didn't catch this until you mentioned it.

I like The Magic Bean if that's the popular direction.

I don't really have a mic setup, but the one on my laptop is pretty solid, and I have a good internet connection, so that should help. I'm free Wednesday evening, east coast time.

Doc Sub, if only there was some kind of hyper text transfer protocol link to an online bazaar which would allow you to peruse a selection of stylish, high quality items.

Sounds like science-fiction.

I've been thinking about getting a t-shirt. Little warm for hoodies right now. Do the tees with the quotes have the DiF logo anywhere on them?

Did anyone else see it in 3D? The conversion was okay, not as good as Titanic's last year. The movie itself still holds up, though. The initial T-rex attack has entered into pop culture, so it's easy to forget just how terrifying it is. Same goes for the scene with the raptors in the kitchen. That Spielberg, he knows what he's doing.

Well, that sounds pretty great to me. Doesn't open here in the states until Friday, but I'm probably going to check it out.

I like Story Breakers and Frame Raters the best out of that list.

An early episode of Mad Men has Betty straight up shoot her neighbor's bird over a modest domestic dispute. Animal cruelty wasn't really a thing back then, I think.

The commentary episodes have been non-numbered since the format switch. One podcast can have multiple types of episodes. Down in Front only has two - discussion and commentary. No reason to split them up.

I totally disagree that the commentaries and the Intermissions are two separate podcasts. Down in Front used to be a podcast that released movie commentaries. Now it's a movie discussion podcast that occasionally also does full-length commentaries for movies. Same people, same ideas, same podcast. Commentaries aren't the main focus of the show, so the title shouldn't reflect that.

I changed my mind. I think that Press Play is the best suggestion so far. It suggest movies in a very obvious way, but it could also refer to music, games, and other geeky topics. You could also keep the same logo.
