I personally blame him for killing the blade franchise, Wesley may have been a bastard on set, but he was acting that way because he could tell Goyer didn't understand wtf he was doing and was ruining the character.
He kills off Westler in the lamest way possible, then replaces him with 20-year old vampire hunters who listen to shitty-techno music from their i-pods mid-fight? What the fuck is that shit doing in a blade movie.Welcome to the 90's man
Blade Trinity was released in 2004
Um, that's totally what I meant...oops
Though the 2000s were definitely known for their techno music.
Curious if Blade will get the Marvel reboot treatment? I know the rights have reverted back to Marvel and they have a script, supposedly.

Welcome to the 90's man
Only a few minutes in and I already feel welcome
So I´m quite fine, thanks for asking
I watched next gen too in the 90 back when my father bought us a satellite dish to finally watch more than three channels... still have a love for the show, although i never rewatched any of the episodes.
And fireproof... please put the gun back on the mantle, it will be required there in act three...
Chekov is so picky...
*puts it back*
Also, the only German I know is "I love you" and "What do you think?" Hardly conversational...
Happy new user day!
Welcome to our humble forum. The craziness around here certainly keeps it interesting
Also, no carries a gun around here...
*slides his gun behind his back*
A positive review from Harry Knowles means fuck all, he might be the least credible person on the internet.
Drew I trust though, so expect it to suck.
I expected it from the first trailer I saw so not surprised at all

Yo this is my cousin Jimmy the Time Lord, I know we've never mentioned him before, but he's living here now.
Well, the Master escaped (twice!) so who's to say other Time Lords didn't? Who's to say there wasn't a Cassandra like figure who went in to exile after being ignored for so long regarding the Last Great Time War?
I mean, the Doctor has always been a loaner? Why not have someone from his own race call him on it?
Ok, now I officially cannot get in to GoT. Seriously, everyone dies?!
Ok, that might have been a little over the top...maybe
Our top story tonight: Generallissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.
In other news, experts reveal who is in Grant's tomb...
David Goyer sucks.
The guy is a total hack. He has written so much garbage like
KICKBOXER 2: THE ROAD BACK
DEMONIC TOYS
PUPPET MASTERS
GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE
THE CROW: CITY OF ANGELS
NICK FURY: AGENT OF SHIELD
THE UNBORN
JUMPER
BLADE: TRINITY.The first BLADE is okay... BLADE II was rewritten by Guillermo Del Toro. DARK CITY and those Batman movies? Other, more talented, people worked on those... praise those guys.
Don't hold back...tell us how you really feel
I still need to work through the rest of the Blade 2 script, but unless I uncovered the rewrite with no Del Toro credit, the first scene was almost identical, save for some minor directing choices, which I would expect moving from script to screen.
There's a tremendous difference between standing in an audio booth recording lines and actually being given the space to perform. Letting Cumberbatch get into being Smaug, letting him stalk around, leap on piles of "gold" or play with a trinket, will change the way he delivers the lines. The rhythm and intensity and inflections will all be different. And while an actor of his caliber could no doubt fake it just fine standing in a booth, the animators at the other end would have no idea what was in his mind when he paused here, huffed there.
So you put him in a space and let him do it, and at that point there's really no reason not to gather mocap data too, just to have it. It would have to be retargeted, yes, and possibly much of it discarded as inapplicable, but certain nuances you might gather -- the fractional tilt of his head, say, or a small hesitant motion of the arm -- could make all the difference in translating Cumberbatch's specific performance to the final animated character.
I agree with this. Cumberbatch is a very physical actor, even with his subtleties. Since I recently watched Star Trek: Into Darkness, that is more my recent experience with Cumberbatch's performance. One thing that I noticed in that movie, and the filming of his Frankenstein stage performance, he is very physical in his acting. While he can be subdued, there is still a lot he does his small facial movements, like Dorkman said, that give nuances to a performance.
Also, even as Trey said, a dragon who talks will need a cheat because of the rules of speech. However, I think that they are up to the challenge and will probably employ a huge variety of data to give Smaug life.
I mean, the original Smaug looked almost like a cat to give it the ability to speak.

I also looked at Voyage of the Dawn Treader's dragon model because it has similarity to what we have seen of the Smaug model. There is definitely a place for mo-cap data, at least because of the articulate eyes, and the corners of the mouth resemble more human contours.
I will be interesting to see the final product.
Must resist looking at any pictures!
By the way, there appears to be an Extended Edition coming out later this year, featuring 15 minutes of extra stuff. Any thoughts as to what these could be? More dwarven antics, longer prologue, or some hobbiton scenes?
My wife is strongly hoping for more dwarven antics involving Rivendell.
I also have a feeling the White Council might get extended as well.
Also, the whole mo-cap thing strikes me to wonder how Dragonheart was done? I know Tippet worked on it and it sounds like it was combination model/puppet work and CGI. However, not being vfx savvy I am afraid that I am unsure about the rest
However, I highly doubt that they would do a human face on Smaug. I have a feeling it is more to get the expressions and inflections, since Smaug is supposed to be highly intelligent.
I guess I am unsure how this is bad?

Also, would like to suggest maybe a general science fiction discussion sometime, especially with movies like Pacific Rim, After Earth and Oblivion out this year. Not a movie critique so much an discussion of the state of scifi in general right now, both movies, books and other media, such as video games, where scifi seems to thrive.
Just a thought
fireproof78 wrote:You thought "Space, the final frontier..." was the Captain's Oath?
Or did I miss something?Yes. Although it's fair to say I'd checked out by that point.
Ouch. That doesn't sound good.
fireproof78 wrote:The point of the Organinans was that they were pacifists. Though, doesn't make for the best action movie, I suppose.
Is it Errand of Mercy or Arena where they are fighting and energy beings step in and are like "You kids stop messing around!" and Kirk has to make an argument for why he should kick the crap out of the baddies in which realizes the energy beings point of why he shouldn't? Or am I writing fanfic?
Errand of Mercy is the one were the Klingons are occupying an apparently less civilized world. Eventually, the Organians, the natives, put a stop and force a peace treaty to avoid further blood shed after Kirk attempts to kill Kor.
Good episode
fireproof78 wrote:Also, the Organians made an appearance in ENT in "Observer Effect."
ENT's last season was brilliant
Yes, until the series finale, I'd say
Allison, you can't brook this kind of slight, or you'll never be respected. I recommend raising an army and taking the insult to their doorstep.
The honor of House Swarthmore is at stake!

It would be cool if it starts with war with the Klingons that turns into an Errand of Mercy type plot with Energy beings

The Energy beings could punch people and explode!
The point of the Organinans was that they were pacifists. Though, doesn't make for the best action movie, I suppose.
I would prefer a plot were they might end up attacked by Klingons and end up discovering a bigger enemy that forces them to work together.
Also, the Organians made an appearance in ENT in "Observer Effect."
Was there somebody somewhere who thought there would be?
Trey, hope springeth eternal
Well, I think there is more good Trek in there than just wink-wink moments.
I think the whole Section 31 aspect is a great storyline first experimented with in TNG and explored further in DS9.
This movie, I think, will suffer from the blockbuster aspects and the deeper themes will be missed at times because of the fan service and shiny parts.
I think they need to introduce another Time Lord (not the Master) for the Doctor to play off of.
Oh, and I watched Dogma yesterday. Interesting and not bad, but also not really funny. It's slightly overwritten and underdirected.
I think the idea of God as a skee ball fan is one of my favorite bits from that otherwise odd movie. Also, without it, we wouldn't have this, for good or for ill
And it just highlights the contrast even further - both Star Trek 2009 and STID end with the famous narration about exploring new worlds, but are just villains-out-for-revenge plots. After all the chasing and punching, the reminder of a more noble time is like an extra kick in the nuts. It's like ending Fast and Furious with a Shakespeare soliloquy.
Personally, the nerd in me wanted to hear the Captain's Oath.
Also, the idea of a 5 year mission was stated as never being attempted before, and a long time in space. Also, Trek 09 ended with the crew together but did not imply the 5 year mission. I think the IDW comics are designed to fill in that time a little bit, but that maybe too much crammed in there.
As stated before, I think they tried to hard to please fans with moments rather than trusting their story to stand on its own.
I think, in the next Trek film, the villain should be The Borg.
*runs and hides*
Yeah, you better run *looks for the nearest phaser*
I'd worry that someone like that would essentially become a puppet for a Paramount committee.
Just thinking about it, I'd like to see an Enterprise era movie. You know, a film about mankind meeting new aliens, fumbling about in new places, seeing spacial anomalies that baffle them, and doing stuff an exploration ship would do using new technology that they don't really know how to use and which half the time isn't working properly.
And I like to see a crew that's actually developing their relationships on screen.
Curiosity strikes me: do you think that the Abrams Enterprise crew is actually developing on screen?
Besides, I'm hoping the hint at the 5 year mission will allow for an actual exploration movie next time around. Either that, or war with the Klingons.
Orci & Kurtzman actually consider bringing back Q and the Borg (see here).
If the Q Continuum exists outside of all the physical universes (that was always the implication), Q would be the same character that we know from TNG/DS9/VOY (John de Lancie). But if they're going to recast him, I'm rooting for Robert Downey, Jr.
Actually, you could redo Trelane from "Squire of Gothos" who fans have speculated was actually a Q. He was actually a little more sinister so it could be taken a little bit further than Q ever was.
An Enterprise era movie set during the Romulan War with a new crew nearly happened before JJ was brought onboard. Link
The fact that movie was ALMOST made makes me want to cry...
Good article, and I agree with the writer's thoughts on why it wasn't so successful, they managed to dilute the Star Trek brand to such an extent that Star Trek Into Darkness isn't really distinguishable from any other 'evil terrrorist blows up stuff on Earth' movie (with a few fan service moments grafted on).
And this is the part where I lament that we had yet another Khan or analogous antagonist, and that Cumberbatch wasn't playing Gary Mitchell.
Well, I would distinguish it because terrorism isn't the central point so much as the tool. The underlying attitude that is presented is ends justify the means in winning a war. And how that attitude conflicts with the Federation ideal. I think that message was done well, IMHO.
But, I agree that Gary Mitchell would have been a better choice and that the writers end up doing too much fan service
Also, a curious question for you all
