Owning a house is both amazingly satisfying and continually frustrating. Even with a new house, you never know when something expensive is going to go wrong. In 15 years, I've replaced the front of mine (the stone was put on wrong and allowed water to get behind it), the A/C unit, the furnace burner, the water heater, and the washer & dryer, and the dog. And none of those were low-quality items to begin with. Except for the dog.

TL;DR
Mike's a great guy, and i wish him the best.

I first met Mike in prison when I was 27 and he was 8. The first thing he did was come straight up to me and punch me in the face. That was uncalled for, and I said so, but Big Sal said that since Mike was only 8, I was the biggest guy he could conceivably take. That seemed unfair at the time, because I was like 138th out of 192 in ranking on the cell block and most of the guys below me were old-timers and Wee Wendel, who was a dwarf with no legs, so I was like "What is he even in for?" and they said "Wire fraud" which is pigeon shit, but they said impersonating a member of Congress for the purpose of obtaining free postage privileges was even more pigeon shit. So he became like mascot of the cell block, and I became 139th out of 193 EVEN THO I BAKED BROWNIES FOR EVERYONE WHICH SHOULD COUNT FOR SOMETHING.

Anyway, we lost touch after he made parole, and it was nice to catch up to him on the Friends in Your Head forum, even tho he pretends those days in Manatee County Jail never happened, let alone those day trips to Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve and that crazy plan we hatched to catch alligators and ride them past Dung Islet, thru Hole in the Wall Pass, beyond Snake Key, and up the coast thru Little Cockroach Bay to overnight on Negro Island and then on to freedom after going around Goat Island to the Devil's Elbow to get to Paradise Mobile Home Court.

But we never did it because he had this crazy notion to go SOUTH to Bishop Harbor, overnight on a nameless islet in Hell's Half Acre, slip into Tuberculosis Bay, steal a camper from Frog Creek Campground to get to Honor Thy Pet Cremation Services, because he had an uncle that worked there, and then what? Drive north on Tamiani Trail RIGHT PAST MANATEE COUNTY JAIL?! That's bullshit.

Bartender, hugs all around.

I'm not a soundtrack guy, but this was really cool. I especially liked track 3. More melody, I suppose. And I dig that artwork.

I'm happy with everything I've seen. I don't know why this isn't tripping along. I was hoping for more refined edits and some hologram effects and whatnot.

Yeah, the whole idea here was to use whatever was easy to do and still looked cool. That flat hologram I referenced on the initial post is perfectly fine. It's actually necessary for the way we shot the later moments with Straya manipulating things on screen to track Darth Voyne's location.

Yeah, some technical person will have to answer that. Performancewise, I think it's great.

I'm not saying they're bad products. I'm planning on getting the iPhone 6 right away. (I broke my iPhone 5 screen last week, and nice devices are all that keep me from looking like a hobo.) I'm just wondering if Apple is now fully fallen from its position of leader in innovation.

Okay, I thought things had cooled down, because John Travolta only worked with one celebrity who has died this year, but that person was Robin Williams...

Meh. 99.9999% of the world does stuff they don't like so they can get paid.

90% of stuff done by people who are trying not to suck still sucks. Nobody knows at the time which 10% is going to turn out well.

Joe Dante, Ron Howard, James Cameron, and Francis Ford Coppola never lost any sleep over how bad their early efforts under Roger Corman were. Commercial success buys plenty of opportunity to rehabilitate your artistic integrity.

Despite his devotion to artistic integrity, Harlan Ellison doesn't enjoy a sterling reputation.

That's fantastic! Your voice is terrific! And there's literally no way you could go too evil considering Ian McDiarmid's performances.

No. Thats just the first moment, when i'm activating the camera. I lean back and get a broader shot.

Let me know where the problems are, and if they're serious, i can just redo the scenes this weekend. It didn't occur to me that teal against blue would be a problem; they looked quite different at the time. I could shoot it against a near black background or near white; and/or i can change the costume if necessary.

Okay. I did it against a blue wall I hoped would work for bluescreen technique, but it's probably too shiny. I also shot in full light as demanded by Dave and Chris, which makes my turban look a little like silk pajamas wrapped around my head, which *snort* it is totally not *pushes glasses up on nose*. However, since I worked alone, I'm afraid it's a touch out of focus....

Still, probably workable.

I agree with most of what's been said here. Inauspicious beginning for Twelve. But the nature of the regeneration conceit allows for some adjustment time.

If it can wait until tonight, I'll do the dark master.  How many lines we talkin?

That would be great!

EDIT: script

There are three or four lines:

  • Good work, my young apprentice. Now,
    fulfill your training... and destroy
    her.

  • I am impatient, my apprentice--

  • Your master has taught you well, little
one. You would make a worthy apprentice.
Join me on the dark side.

  • [mutters in impotent rage and cuts communication]

This is the hologram effect I imagined. If it's video pasted onto that semi-transparent plane, then background is less of a worry.

I was going to do the voice of Straya's master, but yeah, alright. I can do that instead. I should be able to do it this weekend.

EDIT: Unless somebody else WANTS to do it.

Yeah, rings no bells for me either, but it sounds like something that might have been used in a comic book, an area i have no recent knowledge about.

I don't know. The lines on the prosthetic chin are really obvious in that second clip at around 6 seconds. Maybe Rodriguez was never happy with it and decided to go with something different, and that turned out just as bad and more exaggerated.

But I agree with Michael. Rodriguez never grew into the film maker he showed promise of. He probably thinks he's just cashing in on a grindhouse trend until he busts out a blockbuster, but I think he may find himself stuck in the grindhouse permanently.

Here's the thing about stuff like this: why NOT create a story with this kind of secret behind it, especially the thing about Marcellus Wallace's soul? I think it's been tried, specifically by Verhoeven in Total Recall...

Total Recall 1990 Show
Is Quaid really a deep cover secret agent or is the second half of the movie him experiencing the schizoid embolism the doctor warned him about?

...and by Spielberg in Minority Report...

Minority Report Show
Does Anderton really escape prison and trap Burgess with help from his ex-wife or is the third act him experiencing the rapture of the prison containment system and all his dreams are coming true, as described by Gideon, the crippled jailer?

...and Ang Lee in Life of Pi...

Life of Pi Show
Did Pi spend months in a lifeboat with wild animals or was his alternate story about being trapped with violent crewmen and resorting to cannibalism the real truth?

I think all three of these are a bit cheesy, really. On the other hand, the secret story underlying Mulholland Drive really enhances that story, altho it's so complicated I can't recall the details right now.

Zarban, does the crawl have to be so verbose? At around a minute in length, it's a quarter of the picture's run time.

Ha! Good point! I love what Owen wrote, but yeah, we could trim it down. I think we can just remove the whole second paragraph and trim the other two slightly.

SHOWDOWN ON DANTAH
Terror reigns throughout the galaxy. Members of the Jedi Order are being hunted down by evil Sith Lord DARTH VOYNE and his young apprentice DARTH NIKEN.

Straya, a Jedi Padawan has been sent to investigate a smuggler base on the remote planet of Dantah, unaware that her nemesis is on her trail....

I agree about the extended opening seeming a little disconnected. It feels odd to cut from Straya to Straya to Straya. Also, I'd still like to see a different cut of the line where her delivery is smoother.
