Ugh.

You wouldn't hold Before Midnight to a higher standard than White House Down? I mean, I get where you're coming from, but we have to draw a line.

Honestly, I would.

Now I'm not talking like, they both need to be cinematic expressions of the inner most thoughts and desires of the repressed subconscious mind here. But I'm not going to give a movie a free pass on not even trying to include a story or make sense, or insert X quality here, because it's a movie that has a release date between June and September. That's not how this works.

A bad movie is a bad movie. And you can like it if you want, I don't care, but at least call it what it is and not try to put some thin veiled smoke screen over top of it to try to excuse yourself.

Personally, I like the creations board as a gallery of sorts, where people can present finished projects and talk about them, and I think cluttering it up with a bunch of really messy script doctoring threads takes away from that.

But that's just me.

Just gonna throw this out there. For some reason I got thinking about the PFR board at work today, and had a thought.

Teague mentions in the Rules if we had rules that we could also post our own original stuff. But I got thinking, it might be nice to have a subforum or something of that nature for original work that people want to get feedback on and sort group script doctor.

Just to separate it from the reboot and fix ideas for other movies and stuff, so if people want to easily find original stuff to help on or comment on they can, or vice versa.

Just a thought. Talk amongst yourselves.

Honestly I think "Costume Party For One" sounds about the saddest thing you could ever listen to.

Please make it either:
A) a rowsing drinking song
B) A super hyper cheery kids song

But yeah, those are ALL amazing. So freaking looking forward to this thing!

There's never any love for Poochie.

But seriously, those both sound awesome.

Cookies all round!

EDIT:I'd been thinking about mine for a couple days now, and actually putting it down like this has just driven it into my head, I can't stop thinking about it. I'm seriously considering writing my own version of this... cause you know, it's not like I'm not writing enough massive projects I'll never get to make atm. Gaah, make it stooop.

You get one thing: game, tv show, movie, comic book, 5th grade hairstyle, whatever, to reboot and remake today.

You also get to make it however you want.

Be as brief or detailed as you want.

Points are awarded for non obvious answers*. So QI rules essentially, let's make something interesting.

To get things rolling, I'm going throw out there:

Dinotopia, Yes, this Dinotopia: http://www.pariscine.com/sites/default/files/posters/dinotopia.jpg
Done as an HBO miniseries, using practical dinosaurs as created by a collaboration of Stan Winston studios and the Walking With Dinosaurs workshop mixed with CG dinos when required (ala Jurassic park).

I absolutely fell in love with the concept of Dinotopia (Short short version: a magically isolated island hidden in a storm, where a civilization exists in harmony with Dinosaurs in a mutually beneficial relationship. Also, some dinosaurs are super smart and can talk. In the TV series, 2 brothers crash land their plane in a storm, wash up on Dinotopia, they can never leave, one digs it, one doesn't. Adventure!) when I was in middle school/high school. And would love to see it reborn as something with some meat to it, and as something that wouldn't be afraid to go really hard with the fantasy horror ideas, along with the Dino gore. Plus, look at this art (From the novels), could you not see this being done by the Game Of Thrones crew? I think it would be amazing.

Unfortunately Dinotopia kind of falls into the same category as Avatar in most respects, I absolutely love the universe and the world building, and most of the ideas that are put forth, but unfortunately it falls flat. At least in Avatars case it pulled off the visuals and was very pretty, and only faceplanted on having a decent story. Dinotopia just falls flat on it face in almost every respect, granted most of that was due to it being a Disney Channel special, so all I'm left with is the really great concept and a heart full of shattered dreams.

(BTW, if this interested you enough to go try and watch the series...I will warn you..it's bad...like really bad. Which is why I seriously want a reboot tongue)

Now you go.

*The points don't matter.

(Sorry if this is a little proto-new-forum, but I think it'll be fun)

It's a tough term in general, because you want the audience to bring their own pavement to an extent, you don't want the movie to necessarily spell everything out. Lots of great films deal in ambiguity and letting the audience do some of the leg-work. The phrase really kicks in when the movie is lazily and badly written and doesn't know what it's about, and tries to rely on the audience making up absolutely crazy amounts of back-story and inference to try to justify what is supposed to be going on. Prometheus being a prime example of this.

I think it's more along the lines that you want the audience to have the ability to put in the connective tissue between the bones, connecting the femur to the tibia to get a grander sense of the whole leg, but "Bring Your Own Concrete" applies when the audience has to just bring in the tibia all on their own because the movie just didn't bother putting it there.

"Bring your own asphalt"...

Doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

"Bringing your own concrete" taken from the Prometheus commentary. I quite like that analogy. And I believe it was used in one subsequent commentary, but I can't remember which.

Haven't seen it since I was 8, saw the Stan Winston School bts today (Which is pretty cool to see btw, check it), thought I'd give it a rewatch. Still a damn fun little movie. Wish we had more like it today.
