Thanks for the million suggestions you guys, you've made it way easier on us. I think at this point we've got enough names to mull over, so we'll figure all that out and get to work.
Bear in mind, all of this is gonna move or go away (well, some of it is going to go away, the store is going to go away) before May 2nd, so we'll all be on a nearly identical forum on another site at that point. At which point we'll have to come up with new shirts and hoodies.
Welcome!
Confused Matthew was super cool about that whole thing, everyone over here was properly impressed by how well he took a bunch of dudes on the internet chastising him.
This guy. This guy right here.
I love this community.
And this is the second time Lamer has gone out of his way to write some script that made other people's lives easier. This guy. This guy right here.
Aw. I didn't really know this guy, just met him briefly one time with Trey and Amy, but he seemed like an incredibly cool and kind dude. Sad day.
I heartily approve of stand-ups on DIF. This is a quality development, one with which I am quite pleased.
Post Script!
Heh - there shall be no polling! We'll democratically cull options, and decide on a victor with dictatorial zeal.
That said, I am interested - just out of curiosity - which ones people like the most. There's certainly some useful data to be gathered there.
...wow.
That picture is perfect. I previously had trouble figuring out what my expression was in that photo, but now it's clear. It's the expression of someone with thinly veiled contempt for parody consistency.
Save the board,
Save the cat,
But the names not coming back.I don't care,
Same to me,
You can't take my pod from me.Keep me at
Cahuenga Labs,
Tell the boys to come right back.Teague, Brian, **-or "Teague and Brine"
Mike and Trey,
They're not gonna stop today.I would rather eat some lead,
Than lose them 'ol friends in my head,
Sorry to derail this thread.
*tweak tweak*
Apparently I really care about meter tonight. Who knew?
I feel like a dick, so I'm liking every post made by a British person. Yes, that means Xavier and Jimmy both got undue likes. Who told you the world was fair?
I'm about to cry you guys.
1. I feel the love, and the sentimentality touches me. I feel it too.
2. Christ, what is it with you guys and meter already?
3. Holden didn't make sure our image macros were the same size.
Back Row wins!
And honestly, I was rendering, bored, and saw the guitar. I didn't actually think your lyrics were "stop everything and make fun of someone" bad, I'm just a sad person.
I really like The Back Row. I like it for like six reasons.
Anyway.
For Faldor.
I love the spirit, but we need to work on your rhymes.
"Ripping Off Surrogates?"
Stokes 'n Folks. Great plan. Whoever cast Richard Harris as Dumbledore would approve.
SHARK BRAIN
SHARK BRAIN
SHARK BRAIN
...although Stokes 'n Folks is fun.
EDIT: So both Trey and I aren't comfortable having the entire show title be a reference to us.
What if we split it? Stokesy and Teague's Cavalcade of Comedy!
Since March of 2009, the friends in your head have delivered over 235 episodes of conversation and commentary about movies, music, and other geek media under the name "Down in Front." Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that the phrase/title "down in front," as it pertains to movie review and discussion, is in fact a registered trademark of parties unaffiliated with our show.
After discussion with the trademark owners, we have agreed to cease using their trademark on our website, logos, merchandise, social media, and future content. They have, however, permitted us to keep references to the trademark in the aforementioned 235 archived episodes, with the addition of a new intro identifying them with the new name.
Our show, of course, has never been about the name, but about the conversations — and, more and more as they years have gone by, about the community that's grown around them. In the years to come, we plan to continue producing the same show you've come to know and love, but under a different name -- and we could use the aforementioned community's help with that.
We weren't planning to have to come up with a new name for the show and, frankly, we're a little stumped, so we're open to suggestions. It should be interesting, memorable, and unique. We're also looking at the potential to expand outside of movie discussion/commentary, so something that could serve as a more general "brand" for a range of geeky interests would be good.
Oh, and something not already trademarked. Kind of important, as it turns out.
For now, the show will be on hiatus until the first weekend of May while we get all our ducks in a row. Follow @difpodcast on Twitter (soon to be changed) or this thread for further updates.
Note: Please don't go into legal precedent or talk about trademark law in this thread. Just, please don't.
ANNOUNCEMENT: We have made a decision on the name, thanks for the suggestions everybody!
Heh, it's just the song. I have a tendency to perform the song as a whole thing instead of just singing it.
Which. Heh. For moody or sad songs, I guess is pretty Sad Maxy.
Primer keeps coming up.
We skurred.
1. Animal, mineral, vegetable, conceptual? It contains all of these things, but is primarily mineral.
2. Something to do with music? Nope.
3. Is it synthetic? Negative!
4. Does it come form the sea? It couldn't.

The argument has more to do with sample size, I think. Only a very few humans get paid to direct massive movies for the studio system. You can usually bank on the fact that they've been well vetted - as a group, their signifying feature is "they come from the special group." There are bad movies and good movies, but the people who make bad movies typically don't stick around long, which is an additional safety net against hacks in the major movie system.
Music videos, on the other hand, are directed by quite a few humans - and they're mostly all humans who want to be in the movie group, too. They are not yet. Why? Well, any number of reasons, but the fact of the matter is they're not. The problem isn't music videos aren't usually complete little stories - though that's part of it - it's more that the entrance threshold for being a music video director is much lower. All you (feel) you need to know about a major film director is he's been directing major movies. All you (feel) you need to know about a music video director is that he's been directing music videos.
So skepticism happens. "This guy over here comes from the group with some amount of quality assurance. This guy over here comes from the group with far less. Let's see how he does."
