I was surprised when I checked DiF today, but it looks great. Will report any bugs, but currently, looks great, easy to navigate and love the new streaming system.
Good job gentlemen!

Good job gentlemen!
Trench stories are among my favorite aspects of film making. I have gone from more enjoying films as entertainment and enjoying the process of how films are made, which is one of the reasons I like DiF.
Another suggestion I have is fight choreography process with Eddy, Brian, Ryan, Dorkman, in particular, though Trey's offhand comments on the appropriate place of fighting in movies are always welcome
I read that article and in Billy Crystal's interview he said that there should be a Facebook movement for a Max and Valerie movie. Best part, as he says it, they will not need as much make up for their parts.
Ok, I think we can all agree that Fireproof should be banned, yeah? Just kidding.
Oh, I feel the love
I love Last Crusade despite what they did to Marcus and Sallah. And what they do to Marcus in Crystal Skull is far more insulting. To both actor and character.
Last Crusade was my first introduction to Indiana Jones, so I always enjoyed it the most. Even though, the whole General Veers turning in to a skeleton freaked me out for the longest time.
Sallah never bothered me, but Marcus seemed to be tacked on to Last Crusade. He was no longer the more academic one-he was used more for comic relief.
Those two posters side-by-side show just how doughy Harrison Ford has become in the last decade.
To me, the scary part is not how old Ford has become, but the fact that Lucas and Spielberg decided that now is the perfect time to do another Indy film. My guess would be George started writing the sequels to Star Wars once he realized that Ford was still up to the task.
This week we record: THE BEST OF INDIANA JONES.
Fixed
im just gonna throw this out there.
The only star trek I've ever seen is the newest one.
*runs to the hills*
Nothing wrong with that
I think TNG and DS9 will do well with the HD update. I do not think it will date itself quite as much as with the originals.
Brief nerd moment-um, am I the only one who noticed that the impulse engines on the saucer section were not lit up?
Seeing as how the new Transformers movie is being billed as "The greatest action film of all time" or something, that sounds like DiF fodder to me.
Film scores-right up Teague's alley.
I also like the idea of the life of Trey. Get him going on a rant on how things have changed and you will have your 30 mins and more besides.
A topic in the same vein is "Changes in Movie Making" talking about film vs. Digital, set pieces and green screens and the like.
The funny part, to me, in that picture is the fact that the Genosian standing next to Dooku looks good, but the blending from forground to background is a off. I think it is more of a lighting issue from one to the other.
MMA is certainly hot right now. This sounds like a fun project.
While I wish you well, hopefully finances will allow for some support to you guys.
By the way, love the belt ranking as a way of showing supporters your gratitude. Good idea.
switch wrote:I'd keep the geekza episode. you're only going to have one episode where trey reacts to a movie he's never seen when the title of said movie is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Besides, it was a good episode. That alone makes it worth keeping
I said the same thing, but was outvoted. So now I have to watch that movie again.
So, we have Teague suffering through Spiderman and Trey has to survive Kingdom of Crystal Skull. I look forward to hearing the comments.
Well, at least there are some benefits to being laid sick in bed and having the day off. I am hoping to sit in on this recording.
I will probably be one of the few champions for Kingdom
*runs from the flames*
Get well soon, Teague!
I got online for about 20 minutes of the "Few Good Men" broadcast before having to bug out. I cannot wait to hear it released.
Hopefully Brian substituted well for DiF's fearless leader.
And, there should be a law against people posting jagged things coming out of sensitive areas.
You had me at the canned laughter.
Pretty much, yes
Just out of curiosity, have there been many prequels that actually WORK? Temple of Doom had the advantage that there had been only one movie so there's not much continuity or character to screw up, but in most cases they create tons of problems where none existed before. Or they fill in character pieces you really didn't need. It doesn't help that they often come when the creator has run out of things to do with the existing characters/world, so they go back and do an origin story or tell stuff hinted at in the real books.
The Horiatio Horblower books are sort of OK, mostly as I read them "in order" as a kid. Coming back to them as an adult and reading them in publication order, not so much
As far as books go, the only truly successful prequel that comes to mind is "The Magician's Nephew" in the Chronicles of Narnia series. I believe it was the fifth or sixth book written in the series, but chronicles a boy's first sojourn in Narnia. That boy would eventually be the professor in "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe."
I think the overall prequel problem, regardless of genre, is like one of the panelists mentioned in this commentary. To us in the real world, the character is iconic, like Indiana Jones. In a prequel, he isn't supposed to be the great adventurer that we know him as in Raiders. I am pretty sure Dorkman pointed it out that the producers don't always take that in universe perspective and recognize how the character would been seen prior to becoming the cool guy in his universe. You almost have to be willing to make your hero less heroic, but not to the point of being a bad guy. I think this is one of those things that is easy to go to an extreme on.
Trey mentioned that, I think.
Oops. I probably should listen to the whole commentary before commenting on the commentary
Sorry, Trey.
Though, I had a thought with regards to the development of Indy as a character in this one, especially since it is a prequel. In Raiders, Indy is all on board with the idea that disturbing the Ark and opening it is a bad idea. He seems to have a little more respect for the supernatural than Beloch and the Nazis do.
My thought was this: what if Indy in Temple is more of a Han Solo character from A New Hope, who is jaded, skeptical of the supernatural, and a mercenary of sorts. Yes, they mention the "fame and glory" as his motivation, but that could have been used in a more clear way. He doesn't believe in the stones, doesn't believe in deities or the supernatural. Then, he gets in with the Thugge cult and seems some crazy stuff that he has no way of explaining, including the blood of Kali. After that experience, he is far more respectful and wary, even if he does not believe, per se. Then, in Raiders, he is far more hesitant to mess with Ark, even if he wants to protect it from the Nazis.
Good commentary, but I wanted to point out that Thuggee is a real cult of Hinduism, not just a product of Lucas' mind: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thuggee#Re … nd_Thuggee
The principle deity was Kali, the goddess of death.
That car is established in a previous scene as being in that location. Also, those characters have just as much of a right to be there as anyone else on that platoon. It's not out of nowhere. They're leading the mission/objective. Just because the movie doesn't bother with the shoe leather of them making their way to those locations, it doesn't mean it didn't happen. They're not teleporting, we just didn't see them travel.
I feel like Captain America is exactly what it should/wants to be. A throwback to classic adventure serials of the era it's set in, just like Indiana Jones. To me, the action montage totally fits in this movie. Captain America had many adventures in his day, and those were just glimpses of them. I like that they bothered. To make them more than a montage, well, then it's no longer a movie, but a TV miniseries. To compare it to Asylum by any means is quite the exaggeration and one I feel the movie does not deserve at all, but to each their own.
I agree. Captain America was a different movie from most superhero movies in that it is not dirty, gritty with a brooding lead. Instead, it is a genuine guy, who wants to do the right thing, and is hampered by the real world pulling him down, either because of his size, his being a gimmick, or the villain taunting him.
G.I. Joe seems to be more camp because it does not have a strong moral foundation like Captain America establishes. The fact that things go BOOM! in Captain America is not the heart of the movie. G.I. Joe seems to be founded on things exploding. It might have done better if Michael Bay had been in charge of it.
Indy and JP. Gonna be a big week.
I for one am excited.
Time to make up for G.I. Joe, Fig?
These are two movies that I enjoy and look forward to hearing the comments.
I have always been a big fan of the Jurassic Park movies. Even after reading the original book, I still found the movies far more appealing, in terms of structure and engaging characters.
EDIT: Spelling corrections *sighs*
Glad to see you on the show again, Brian.
I am now considering watching DS9 again, based on the last show posted. I was more a TOS person, and enjoyed TNG, to some extent, and Voyager, which slowly faded as the show wore on.
Being given a new perspective on DS9 is nice, and this show is certainly to blame for it
If they are going to do Street Fighter, they might as well do Mortal Combat as well. I mean, might as well have some video game inspired movie fun
As to the commentary, I am still working through it, but Trey's rant made me realize that the man needs his own show just ranting on different things, like TOS Star Trek vs. Next Generation Trek. That is a conversation I would love to hear.
And, Trey is right-G.I. Joe is 12 inches tall and was around long before the smaller incarnations:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G.I._Joe
My dad still has some of his original figures. He had the jeep (sorry Trey) but that did not survive.
The SEALs did a better job when they used a Godsmack song for their commercial. Sponsoring movies may not have been the best idea.
Though, the Air Force has had much better commercials of late, especially appealing to sci-fi geeks like myself:
Wow,
lots of info. How do you pay attention to all those planes going so fast in the movies?
I think DiF should do "Top Gun"
Well,
I managed to get mostly caught up on all the shows, as well as subscribed to it on ITunes. The formating is great, and I like the ease of navigating the topics.
I appreciate the all the news and comments about different Trek topics. I would not have know about the new Trek game or comics, which gives me something to look forward to, in addition to the new movie in 2012.
I'm hoping to add my thoughts regarding the 2009 movie, as I enjoyed the discussion of Abrams movie in the episode with Brian.
Keep up the good work!
I like the F-14 for the two man cockpit. Having a 2nd person in there would be nice for me.
I agree about the Corsair- There's one signed by Pappy Boyington hanging level to the entranceway in the huge air/space museum next to the DC airport.
The best plane, though, is the A-10 Warthog. For when you really don't like anyone on that road over there.
The airport closest to my house is named Pappy Boyington field-true story.
The Corsair is one amazing piece of equipment, especially in the hands of a skilled aviator. It was one of the reasons America was able to win the air war. I got to see one in the Air and Space Museum in Seattle, as well as the SR-71 Blackbird. The Blackbird is an amazing craft to look at.
The Warthog is all about firepower though. It's a shame it is no longer being produced.
