Well I guess I'm going to have to indefinitely suspend my research on lupus then... such a horrible disease really... all those poor people...  and puppies...  did I mention that puppies get lupus too ...

(Are they buying the whole guilt trip thing?  No?  God damn it!)

Thanks for the 1,000 hours.  I loved this podcast more than life itself.

I'm thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.  I've been listening to you guys as I hike including a commentary for a movie I never heard of called The Cowboys.  I just checked into a hotel in Ashland, OR, turned on the TV and there were John Wayne and Bruce Dern... The Cowboys!  Can't wait to watch it.

Normally I'm morally opposed to people who put in a DVD and just watch certain scenes instead of watching the entire film, but in this case...

I've done HP marathons where I watched the first three films, watched only the graveyard scene in GoF, and then moved on to the rest of the movies.

I'll see this movie in hell.

I'm flying home for a family holiday get-together that weekend, because it's the holidays and it's a time to be around those you love.  But f@#k them!  Yes, I know Grandma and Grandpa don't have "a lot of time left", but they're going to have to hang on till next year (unless there's some other kind of FIYH marathon next year).  I'm sequestering myself into a spare bedroom with my laptop, headphones, and a bucket (don't ask) and will only emerge to fill up on eggnog and turkey.

I ruptured several major blood vessels listening to this episode.  I agree with Teague and I thought he made several excellent points (the multiple viral elements in the film, Soderbergh being like Fincher, the movie not working for him) but he kept getting shot down.  I love so much of this movie in theory, but in reality... I guess I need to watch it again to see what I'm missing.

Gangrene is caused by an anaerobic bacteria called Clostridium perfringens.

Also, Saving Private Ryan and War Of The Worlds make me realize why I love Munich so much.  It's the only dark and complex Spielberg movie that maintains its tone and doesn't dissolve into a puddle of sap at the end.

I had a panic attack when I played the podcast this morning and I heard Teague's voice take on that "We need to talk" tone.  I'm just relieved that the show isn't ending.  I like "Four Friends In Your Head" or "The Friends In Your Head".

One of my favorite episodes.  Any good discussion should open you up to reinterpreting some of your previously held beliefs.  I always hated Zimmer's score for the Batman films, but thanks to this episode I now see that they have quite a bit of depth to them.

Please let this be an episode about Great Gynt's ankle tattoo of the eight-legged horse spirit Sleipnir, please let this be an episode about Great Gynt's ankle tattoo of the eight-legged horse spirit Sleipnir... oh, um, well, yeah this is good too.  sad

Just went through all of the Bond films:

1) Goldfinger
2) Thunderball
3) Casino Royale
4) The Living Daylights
5) On Her Majesty's Secret Service

OHMSS has the best bond theme (with Living Daylights next).  I like it better than the actual 007 guitar riff.  The worst theme (and the worst song in the history of the world) is The Man With The Golden Gun.

This was a fun series.  I absolutely agree with him on Brosnan's films.  It's not Brosnan's fault, but his movies are unwatchable.

1) I refuse to listen to the "Sunshine" or "Scott Pilgrim" DIF commentaries.  I am bound to their fate and I will risk no hurt to these movies.
2) I really like the going to the mansion part of "28 Days Later" and think it fits in really well with everything that came before it.
3) Eddie and I could hang.  I love "Far and Away" and I have never understood the love for Scorsese.  His "Journey Through American Movies" is phenomenal.  I constantly reference his segment on "the director as a smuggler" when I'm talking to people about film and TV.  However, his films aren't that great.  Anyone who says that "Goodfellas" should have won the Academy Award for Best Picture over "Dances With Wolves" deserves the syphilis that is clearly rotting their brains.
4) Overall "Jurassic Park" kind of sucks.  Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, the T-Rex and the "Condors" scene are all great.  But the movie as a whole is silly.  It's a kids movie that was based on an adult book.  As an adult it really doesn't hold up for me.

I know I'm in the minority, but I don't find the "going to the mansion" part of the movie to be jarring.  I love the piss out of this movie.

I could never understand why people liked this show so much, but I watched it on Netflix whenever I had some down time out of my desperate need to understand all cool British things and finally became a fan.  Matt Smith's Doctor has now taken over my internal monologue.

I watched Hunger Games tonight and then listened to the commentary on the L line home.  Liked the commentary.

I agreed a lot with Teague's assessment.  The movie was fine, but I wanted to connect with it and never really did.  The camera shaking drove me mad [as in insane (mad is a much better word than insane)] and the editing felt abrupt to me.

I thought the casting was weird, although when I read the book a long time ago I predicted that Stanley Tucci would appear as a main character in the film version of the book.  I did however make the same announcement upon reading "The Bible" and "Rocket Girls: The Last Planet" and have yet to been proven right on those two.

I also thought the way they delivered information to the audience was weird ("as you know those are tracker jackers and they induce hallucinations...")  I'd be interested in anyone's opinion, because that aspect of adapting a novel always fascinates me.  That and Toby Jones.  I love that man.

I had a blast for the full 13 1/2 hours.  Oh and I'm using that "talky, talky, talky" thing during soundchecks from now on... been walking around all morning saying that to myself.

Jurassic Park.  It was full of cool scientific anecdotes and there was a great joke about birds wanting to be told they were pretty.  Before listening to that episode I liked the show because it was a bunch of cool movie commentaries.  Afterward I realized that I would listen to the four of them talk about anything (like with Top Gear).*

*I feel like that there could have been a semicolon in there somewhere.

I watched "The Captains" on Netflix.  There's some genuinely interesting stuff in there.  And then the rest is made up of my personal trinity of hate: metaphysics, blowhards and jazz.

The first thing I thought was, "please let me like Bilbo".  Which I think I did.  The next thought was, "please let me like the dwarves".  The results to that were mixed.  It ultimately comes down to whether or not I'm going to be able to set aside my attachment to the LOTR characters.  If I can, I'm not worried.

I'll add that I've never more instantly liked a character in a movie than I did those of Merry and Pippen.

I always thought a fun character writing exercise would be, ala "Name That Tune", trying to make an audience like/care about a character in as few lines of dialogue, actions, scenes as possible.  For example, Jack Sparrow standing on top of a mast looking cool and in control.  Cut to him jumping down from said mast and looking worried, as we realize he's actually in a sinking dinghy.  Those two actions were all I needed to like him.

*I know nothing about sailing so I apologize if ships don't have "masts", or come in dinghy form.  I'm also disappointed that I didn't get to use the word "nigh" in that explanation.  I'll add fifteen minutes to my self-flagellation session.

I've been listening for over a year and love the piss out of this show.  I live in Chicago and listen whilst researching lupus.  The show combines everything I love: movie talk, science, humor, and subliminal messages about why stalking my ex-girlfriend will pay off one day.  Big fan.

I'd like to hear episodes about specific directors, actors, producers, etc.  I love when you guys talk about Kubrick and people interpreting everything in his movies as deliberate.  I wouldn't mind hearing similar discussions about Spielberg or whomever.

I'll add that one of the things I love about the podcasts are the discussions that include science, skepticism and rationalism.  Episodes concerning those topics would be great (I think that you guys have earned the right to transcend the category of "just movie talk").  I'm not talking about political beliefs.  I think that what each of you does for a living is founded on scientific principles and I appreciate that you guys don't disregard those principles just because "it's a movie, who cares".  For example Trey explaining to the crew working on Starship Troopers how gravity works and that they can't simply disregard it.
