Great song and a mesmerizing video! Nice transition from full live action to eventual full CG character. I noticed a few animation pops here and there (though that's just me being nit picky)but its very effective I think!

Cool Fox by Sam Duckworth on Sketchfab

Here's the current state of the model! If you click on the title, you'll get to see it in an interactable turntable. The skinning and rigging was a very quick job as I wanted to get a dynamic pose rather than a T-pose.

I'm looking into making the textures pop a bit more with some detail rather than being mostly flat colours.

Wtf is your problem Northern Rail?!

Seriously?! The Manchester to Leeds line is typically boiling due to all the passengers as it is D:

I saw a whole bunch of trains got cancelled or delayed today in fear that the tracks might buckle.

Hope everyone in the UK is surviving in the heat!

I know that the humidity is pretty bad at least in Leeds, it's been affecting my asthma quite badly and making me feel dizzy at times, I admit.

For those that don't know, the UK is currently going through a heatwave of average temperatures being about 30C (89F I believe is the correct conversion?)

I know that doesn't sound like much for some but it is important to remember that most places in the UK don't have air con (even with cars) and our buildings are designed to trap in heat, even with windows open. Plus the UK is typically a cooler climate but when it gets hot, we have thick humidity. It kinda sucks in that regard.

The UK temperature wise is quite capable at dealing with anything from 0 - 18C. Any sign of frost or heat and we panic.

It's been a little bit since I posted some artwork so... Here we go!

And yesterday, I took part in a 6 hour games jam! They said it was less about making a game and more coming up with a concept for one. The theme selected was "Bees"so I came up with... This thing! I was rather tired and wanted to try and replicate that bad VCR feel.

To avoid making this topic potentially go in a further sourer direction, I've found a lot of comments here to be rather insightful! It's good to get a fresh perspective to a problem.

I do have some good news though, I did manage to finish that project for work on friday! Huzzah! Not sure what the next big (or several) work projects will be for me but I'll have a bunch of techniques to potentially try out if I ever start to feel fatigued by a project, whether for work or personal.

This is a subject that's been going around the office lately and it is something that I'm beginning to feel after being the sole 3D artist on a project for 5 months making very similar middle eastern style buildings for a game.

I've also felt it when trying to work on my own projects in the free time I have available (whether it be a lunch break or when I'm at home)

As you work on a project, eventually you get tired of it and it may even become a chore to get through. you may even begin to work slower and feel generally less creative with it. My question is, does this effect you all often? And if so, what do you do to combat it?

When I'm feeling down, I normally watch or play something that gives me a nice nostalgia blast to help cheer me up. Well... I've been watching Gladiators!
https://s.yimg.com/os/publish-images/tv/2014-04-16/825dd5c0-c575-11e3-8b0d-0f3af02c0852_gladiators-where-are-they-now-cover.jpg

One of the biggest UK gameshows of the 90s. Much bigger in production than American Gladiators and even had a few international seasons too! The later seasons start to lag a bit and eventually ended as it became obvious that the producers were running out of event ideas (a lot of the newer events weren't particularly good) and a lot of gladiators had to be pulled off due to injury (such as Nightshade and Jet)

It was (and still is) very cheesy but dagnabbit, I love it. (the attempted revival though was utter shite though..)

I marathoned my way through Over The Garden Wall (not that it takes that long, as a 10 10 minute episode mini-series  watching back to back made for a nice film!)

And wow, I really enjoyed this cartoon a lot. A beautiful art style and engaging story that is very good at subverting expectations as well as a very unsettling grimm fairy tale-esque atmosphere along with a beautiful americano inspired score and songs. It feels almost timeless, like it's a fairy tale that people forgot about and was suddenly found and shown to a new audience.

Very rewatchable as well, lots of moments that suddenly have a second meaning or darker implications and such. Which I love. Go check it out! I'd recommend watching it in bulk.

"Mummy On The Orient Express"

Written by Jamie Mathieson, previously known for work on "Becoming Human" and "Being Human". As well as writing an upcoming episode titled "Flatline".

Holy shit, can we have more of this guy?

Maybe the bar is so low from last week but I really liked this episode. A lot.

The cinematography was back on form, the practical effects and costuming was lovely. I feel like this is our "bottle episode" for this season. We essentially only saw three or four sets/rooms and yet and a minimal use of CGI, and minimal use of Clara ("Welp, we are trapped in this room in the dark for most of this episode!"). Very much a Doctor heavy story.

I found the episode to be very engaging and intriguing, I liked that they referenced that this premise was mentioned in an earlier series and tied it in nicely.

  Show
Such a shame that Frank Skinner  (the engineer character. He's a comedian in the UK) was in for just the one episode. I liked that he was offered a companion role, that could of been an interesting dynamic. Two old men in a TARDIS.

Thing that bugged me the most was Clara again.  I've never been a fan of the "character" (Aka walking plot device for season 7) and was glad that she left the tardis... Only to go actually, one last hurrah! Then at the very end of the episode, go "NAH. HAD A WOBBLE LAST WEEK. I'M GONNA STAY. That'll get the  whoufallidi tumblrites going mad for a bit! I'll leave at christmas instead!"

I did find this funny when re-watching the episode. BBC appears to have spent a lot on The Teller's costume and animatronics and ran out of budget for coming up with an item to show a projection that Psi uses:

So, Time Heist.  Co-written by Stephen Thompson and Stephen Moffat.

If this is the result of co-writing episodes/bringing guest writers, then I am all for it.

To be honest, going into this one I was a bit unsure. The alien design looked pretty cool but I guess I didn't like the premise of it.

After watching, I rather liked it! I think it holds up as one of the stronger episodes of this series so far. As far as heist plots go, it's not the most elaborate but it's a fun enjoyable plot with some nice twists and turns. Even the ventilation shafts have a bit of meta humour applied to them.

I found the cast rather interesting, I wasn't bored at all and it made me care about our temporary additional companions for the Doctor. Certainly makes me hope that the two make a return at some point later in the series.

Cinematography felt different from previous episodes primarily due to Douglas Mackinnon directing (previous Doctor Who episodes include"The Sontaran Stratagem"/"The Poison Sky", "The Power of Three" and "Cold War". Set to direct three more episodes in this season)

Like any heist film/tv show, a slow motion scene has to take place in some form or another. I'm glad that it was gotten out of the way relatively early, the staging of it jarred with me. It didn't really try anything new with it and I felt it was executed a bit shoddily.

Outside of the story, set and costume design, what I found quite interesting in the cinematography were the scene transitions. Quite styled and I felt it worked rather well!

I felt like it was a step up from the mixed bag of "Robots of Sherwood" and "Listen"

I've been on a bit of an animation kick lately... Talking about a film like Coraline or Paranorman could be pretty cool!

Thanks everyone for the kind words! I have some good news, the company got back to me after I submitted the art test!

They liked what they saw and said that I did very well compared to some applicants who had more experience than me. Whilst the job position they advertised will more likely go to one of the applicants with more experience (Any experience is better than me, in this case, haha) they want me to go in for an interview on friday to explore possibilities for me as they see potential! They mentioned potentially making a junior position for me! big_smile

So things have been rather positive for me lately. I haven't worked on the old man model again just yet because I was given an art test for a games company!

This is the first time a company has gotten back to me on my job search, and they like me enough to give me an art test so things are promising! The test was to model this character's head and shoulders in a hi-res sculpt, retopologize it, UV map it and apply textures on it:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/58466837/TestCharacter.jpg

And spend no more than 8 hours on it. This was what I managed to come up with! There's a few graphical errors that I didn't have time to fix but I think I did a decent job with the time-frame. What does everyone think?

New episode on tonight with the return of the darleks! One thing that I will say about the previous episode is that I quite liked the cinematography. This new series already feels different in tone, it looks and feels moodier/darker with harsher lights (Like in the restaurant scene, it feels cold, clinical and tense even before we realize that something is up) which makes me wonder how 'dark' this series will get. I wonder if it'll be like the baker years with horror/gothic elements to it!

So I have a question guys, who would you say is your favorite doctor? For me, I go with Paul McGann. The TV movie is very cheesy but he has some great moments in it ("Stand aside or I'll shoot myself!") What makes him my favorite is that I found him to be really enjoyable and engaging in the Big Finish audio dramas! If you haven't listened to some, definitely check them out.

Hey everyone, I've got a question. To those that do freelance work, how did you get your start? Where do you go for your jobs or do you have your clients coming to you? What would you recommend for setting rates for someone that's just starting?

I am curious as right now, I've recently graduated and currently searching for a job.  Right now I'm struggling to even get replies from companies so I was thinking about looking into freelance. Primarily in either illustration or 3D modelling work.

I'm not really sure on how to get started and trying to enter the industry is rather daunting! Haha.

I'm got a basic portfolio site on tumblr (should I get a better website..?) here:

I totally agree Tomahawk, that was my major issue with Clara. Instead they pretty much used her as a mouth piece for all the fans that were in it for Tennant and Smith only.

I seem to recall Mako lightning-bending in an episode waaaaay back in season 1 when he was working in a factory to raise money for the pro bending team with a bunch of other fire benders that could do lightning. I think it was to show that these techniques from the previous series were becoming more common place, like metal bending.

...I think that was the only time he used it too,  unless he used it in the series 2 finale at some point.

They already have, in Matt Smith's regeneration episode, it was implied that the Galifreians granted him another regeneration cycle. This has been done in classic who (not with The Doctor though)  with gallifrey giving The Master a new cycle (can't remember the reasoning behind it though)

Oh cool! Thanks for the advice, both on the youtube links and for working in the medium contours!

I definitely see what you mean though, it did look like it was missing detail but I wasn't sure as to what it was.
