Re: Superman/Batman (Man Of Steel 2)

I haven't seen the new Superman movie, so I don't know how overpowered they've made him. The whole key to having him interact with others is giving him reasonable limits. He is NOT all powerful. Neither is he all that smart. Batman is smarter, more cynical, lest trusting. The two characters do work together well in the hands of a good writer. But... I tend to prefer my super hero stuff animated. Didn't care for the Batman movies, haven't seen any Superman's since Superman II.

If they hire Paul Dini to write for this movie, then I'll pay attention smile

Re: Superman/Batman (Man Of Steel 2)

Liked Batman Begins, didn't care much for the other two.

On the other hand, Man Of Steel is(IMHO) the best superman film to date.

I don't know. I don't see WHY they'd do this, but I trust Snyder enough to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Re: Superman/Batman (Man Of Steel 2)

They're doing it because Marvel showed that team ups can work, and this is a baby step towards a Justice League movie. They have decades of stories to pull from. It's just a question of if it will work in live action.

Re: Superman/Batman (Man Of Steel 2)

I'd rather see them team up than fight. Their backgrounds and personalities are so different that you could basically do the best buddy cop movie of all time.

But I'm sure they'll just punch each other real hard until they decide to stop.

Re: Superman/Batman (Man Of Steel 2)

Supposedly the set-up for this movie is the complete destruction of Metropolis in MOS1. Wayne is gonna turn up and hold Superman responsible for this.

Re: Superman/Batman (Man Of Steel 2)

If that's the case then I agree with him.

I might get interested if that was really the premise.  How do we get rid of this demented alien whose twisted daddy issues have led him to believe we'll love him if he just hangs around long enough?   It's like he's stalking our whole planet.   A movie that actually dealt with that could be awesome.

Re: Superman/Batman (Man Of Steel 2)

That was one of the fun things the animated Justice League dealt with. The US government had a group dedicated to countering this Superman guy, along with the other super heroes. Batman's the only one to speak up and go, "You know, they DO have a point."

Re: Superman/Batman (Man Of Steel 2)

The problem is you know they won't actually do anything interesting with it, because these are important franchises and they want to lead into the Justice League.

Batman will come to Metropolis, he'll fight Superman for the 1st hour, during which neither will suffer any permanent damage or setbacks...because comic book franchise. Then they'll settle their differences and team up to stop Lex Luthor, and end with a post-credits tease for the Justice League movie.

There, I just saved you 2 years of waiting and 10 dollars.

Re: Superman/Batman (Man Of Steel 2)

Apart from the fighting, you've described what is supposed to happen in the first story where these two meet. You might as well give a similar breakdown of Holmes and Watson first meeting, concluding there's no reason to film yet another version. That this will be the first time it is done in a movie is the entire point. I agree, it could suck donkey balls. I hold no hope I'll be enjoying a live action DC movie anytime soon. But there is fun to be had, if they're willing to actually have fun and not be so god damned serious with their superhero movies.

Another hour of physics-less PG-13 punching and throwing each other through walls and buildings and dropping cars on each other. The kiddies will love it.

As long as the reason for fighting is reasonable I don't mind that vague sequence of events. If it goes something like this then we may have a relatively decent movie on our hands:

Wayne turns up to Metropolis as a part of a 'rejuvenate and repair the city' pretence. Perhaps joins forces with the only other billionaire who resides there (Luthor). They get along smashingly, but Luthor has other ideas for Metropolis/Superman.
Wayne finds out Superman's identity and goes to talk to him and says 'This is not how we do things here. A lot of people died. Maybe you should leave. Zod could be just the beginning of more carnage'
Superman contemplates it but realises Luthor's plan at some point. Decides to stay and stop it.
Batman doesn't see the problem and there's confrontation etc.
Luthor takes down Supes with Kryponite (from space or some shit) , Batman has an 'uh oh spaghettios' moment and breaks him free/saves him/whatever.
They both save the day as a team.

After credits and finale set-up: Justice league introduction and Batman pocketing some of that Kryptonite as a contingency plan.

Actually, to make it really work, SHIELD shows up to pocket the kryptonite wink

No.  He's just going to pretend to be Batman in a movie.

Re: Superman/Batman (Man Of Steel 2)

I hear Jennifer Lopez plays the love interest. She plays a lesbian assassin who is turned by batman's comedic hijinks.

Are choo guys on crack? There's plenty of evidence that Ben is a terrible actor. Tons. He's a fine director but we have almost two decades of acting we can point to and say, "he sucks." This is NOT Heath Ledger. No one questioned whether or not Heath could act.

Re: Superman/Batman (Man Of Steel 2)

Yeah, 'cause a strong dramatic acting resume is real important when casting the role of Batman.  smile

Based on the available evidence, pretty much anyone with a chin can handle the role.

Re: Superman/Batman (Man Of Steel 2)

Not being distractingly bad *should* be important to the role, yes.

EDIT: Not that any of this matters anyway. It's a stupid movie. Just... what a weird choice.

Re: Superman/Batman (Man Of Steel 2)

I'm just baffled why he would want to do it. He's an A-list director coming off a best picture win, and these are exactly the kinds of roles that led his career into a nose-dive 10 years ago. Why would he waste his time as an actor in a comic-book movie like this one, instead of focusing his efforts on getting another quality film made? He doesn't strike me as a guy who would do a role like this just for a paycheck, he's gotta have truckfuls of money at this point in his career (not to mention his successful wife). Unless this is a case where Warner Brothers said "we won't finance your next movie unless you do us this favor" I have literally no idea why he agreed to do this. Maybe if he was directing it also, I could see it as him wanting to try playing around with that kind of budget, but doing it just as an actor? It's crazy...

Maybe because he wants to. I mean, in all honesty, planning Batman is still a bit of an iconic role, regardless of the ups and downs of various films. Keaton was not exactly known for his dramatic roles, yet presented a pretty solid performance. Christian Bale nailed the brooding but honestly was more memorable for his action pieces and voice than being a well rounded character. Honestly, I felt his Bruce Wayne parts to be somewhat...lacking, or not as commanding as his Batman routine.

Affleck could honestly be wanting to do this role because he wants to try it out and see what he can do with it. Personally, the fact that he is an A list director means that it probably isn't for the money. It is for the challenge of the role or the fun of it. He might just want to have fun. And why not?

Honestly, it would be nice to see an actor who can present a Batman who is slightly more balanced and able to be both Bruce Wayne and Batman.

God loves you!

Also ben and jen have three kids, the oldest is seven right now.   For all we know his daughter talked him into it.    smile

We know that's why Brendan Fraser was in GI Joe...
