Re: Suggest a movie!

Is there any chance of a commentary for Robocop or possibly John Carpenter's The Fog?

Re: Suggest a movie!

I know everyone's getting sick of hearing about it, but I'm going to add my voice to the clamor for the Disney classic "Mary Poppins."  If you've ever met a smokestack maintenance engineer, you know this movie is to them as "Caddyshack" is to golf course wildlife.  Also, Teague's recent tube-whoring musical extravaganza has lodged the Sweep song in my head for the last two days.

Along the lines of the "Let's do at least some of the early films before the new one comes out".

With the Muppet movie coming out around Thanksgiving, it might be time to get Chloe on to do Treasure Island, or any of the other great Muppet movies. Some great discussion of story, humor, puppeteering, and any number of things I could see ensuing.

Re: Suggest a movie!

I've been suggesting a Muppet movie for aaaaaaaaaaagggggggges! Fecking love the Muppets. I'd rather hear a comm for the first movie though as some of the shit they do for that in '79 is awesome. Oh, and the UK doesn't get the new movie until next February........... Aaaaaaaaagh!

Re: Suggest a movie!

Abso-frigging-lutely!

The stuff they did for the first Muppet movie is so noteworthy. From the simple- (Kermit on a bike) to the not so simple (Henson underwater for the opening song), there's so much to talk about. While Treasure Island is great, it doesn't really have that 'wow' factor that the original did. In my opinion, anyway smile

Re: Suggest a movie!

Oh I'm a long time Muppet fan, though I'll admit I am a bit biased currently as I am actually working on the new one, yeesh sorry about the EU lag in release, that just really sucks for what seems like no real reason.
Talk about just asking for immediate torrenting of bad quality footage versions.

Have you been half asleep
and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same.

Then watch The Dark Crystal, and consider what we may have gotten if audiences had accepted it. The man wanted to do oh so much more then children's shows...

QFFT.

On another note, just watched Cube again. You guys really need to get around to doing that one. Although if you're just going to rape it like everything else I love, perhaps not.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Cube is... interesting, as an experiment in how to do an action filled movie when you can only afford one room. One of those that for me you applaud for having been made more then for actually being good. It's the fact that it got two sequels that I find interesting (looking at the wiki pages for them I'm not sure I want to track them down)

Re: Suggest a movie!

Don't, they're interesting in their own way I guess, but if you felt that way about the original you definitly won't dig the sequels.

EDIT: I'm curious how you identify Cube as an "action-flled" movie, when in honesty there is very little action and I thought it was pretty obvious they were going for a psychological thriler-esque, "let's watch these people go insane" type movie

Re: Suggest a movie!

There's lots of traveling, falling into traps, death, etc, especially when you consider it is just one room smile yes, most of it is just people talking, but in most cases that would be the ENTIRE movie.

(Looking at Wiki I discovered that there's a one hour Jim Henson film called The Cube that's just that: a guy in a cube he can't leave, although other people walk through and talk to him)

Re: Suggest a movie!

I would also like to put in a vote for Cube. I find it very creative, refreshing and resourceful. Plus I just think it's a really good Horror film with some unsettling ideas and disturbing character developments.

I'm actually one of the few people who likes the sequels. I feel they have merits of their own. The second film (Hypercube) does some interesting things within that universe and has a lot of fun with time, spacial relations and quantum mechanics. The third film (Cube Zero, which is actually a prequel but should be viewed last to fully appreciate/understand it) is bizarre and occasionally silly, but it's meant to be. It has this great, off-kilter Terry Gilliam sensibility to it.

So yeah, that's my two cents on the matter. DiF should cover at least the first one, then decide if somewhere down the pipe whether or not to tackle the rest.
