I know Norwegian.
What we really need is a droid that understands the binary language of moisture vaporators.

Thanks, Phi! Version 2 is the sweet spot, I'd say. I little buzz or reverb, and it will be good and computer-y.
The "beep beep boop" sounds Phi threw in at the end of the ship's computer lines would be perfect if we, say, sped them up and looped them 20 or 50 times with some random pauses and changes in sequence, or just used the beep and the boop as Morse code tones. Add the eerie radio transmission phasing sounds and we'd have it.
Love it.

Love it.
Well, I was pointing that comment towards a language that could fit a droid. Something that, even not-processed, isn't exactly widely understood.
But hey, don't mind me, I don't speak much to moisture vap- ehm, Owen's mom, nor do I speak a lick of Bocci.
Clearly what we really need is someone who can scat.

NEVER SET TO ADD, NEVER SET TO ADD!!!
*noncaps-letters*
*eyebrow*
Oh god...the endless battles that were fought over add vs screen.
/team linear dodge
Whoa. Wayback machine.
Anyway, I was more eyebrowing because with the possible exception of lightsabers (specifically), Tom's thing is like the opposite of good advice.
Alright, I got curious, so for funsies I made a middle-of-the-road saber glow and tried a jillion combinations of blending mode (add, screen, linear dodge), working space (linear, logarithmic), and gamma setting (standard, 1.0) in After Effects.
Because it's a bunch of images, I'm not going to embed them here, I'll give ya the option to check it in another tab. You'll probably wanna do some browser-zooming.

In the meantime, here's the "standard"-est combination — screen mode, in linear, at standard gamma.
I'm pretty sure it was more of a fight when linear working space wasn't an option without installing something like eLin. Aww look, it's MasterZap laying down the math nearly ten years ago.
Death to video gamma. Don't call it standard.
Death to screen blending.
It isn't 1996.
Do it right, you monsters.

*breathes in*
*realizes this is probably a really bad idea considering the decade long blood war this has involved*
And how is that Paulou?
For dum-dums: Cmd+alt+shift+k in AE and checkbox "Blend colors using 1.0 gamma." Use Add.
For people that are ostensibly visual effects artists: Learn about the bummer fuckall legacy of video gamma, gamma encoding, and how your eyes react to light.

As an outsider who knows very little about this ongoing battle, I must say I love that it exists.

I have left jobs over this.

I agree with both Paulou and Teague, but since Owen isn't working in Linear Space, and also probably 8-bit, NEVER SET TO ADD.
But in a proper space, never set to screen.
The ideal method I found years ago, back when Aurellia was a thing(Kudos to the one person who remembers what THAT was!), and I made a preset of it too, was a combination of add and screen, with the latter comped over the prior. It gave, if I recall correctly, a crunchy look, whilst not blowing out over bright colours.
But it's fun to spark some life into 8 year old conversations that we all actually took part of and remember.
