Between Dredd last week and now this, this is a record streak for me disagreeing with DiF.

I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts afterward.
I feel like this discussion will be very valuable to listen to, but at the same time I do not want to spend my time watching Looper in order to listen to this.
Do you mean RE-watching it, or have you never seen it at all?
If the latter, it's worth a watch. Not a terrible movie by any means, there's good stuff in it.
But if you mean re-watching it, then sure - I understand your reluctance.

I mean, I dunno where your reluctance comes from - if it just doesn't seem like your kinda movie, then it probably isn't. It is pretty much what the ads suggest it is.
But - if it's only because some of us 'round these parts have said negative things about it, then give it a shot. We have our quibbles, but Looper's nowhere near as bad as Prometheus and a million miles from being as bad as a Transformers III.

That conversation was awesomeness incarnate. 
Star Wars is an interesting case, because—forget "Anakin built C-3P0"—Ep 4 HAS TWO MAGIC BEANS. In addition to space travel, the Force is introduced early and becomes the B story to the A story of rescuing the princess and saving the Rebellion.
But that B story of Luke learning about the Force is developed all the way along until, at the end, it merges with the A story: use the Force TO save the Rebellion.
Looper sort of tries to do that when...
That's fine. You don't need to tie them together more closely than that. The problem is that the A story (Young Joe messes up and must find and kill Old Joe) is totally abandoned in the second half of the movie. That's because Rian Johnson was NEVER interested in that story. He wanted to tell the B story all along (Young Joe learns to be a better man).
The other missteps are 1) Old Joe hung up his guns and seems to have become a better man; he should have STILL been a bastard and 2) the Rainmaker and his monstrous evil are never shown; in fact, the future looks a damn sight nicer than the present.
By the way, if you haven't seen all of David Fincher's '90s movies, read no further.
For the record... I'm totally in Rian Johnson corner on this one.

Not only did RJ direct the Fly, one of the greatest bottle episode I've ever seen, but also in season five he directed episode 4 called Fifty-One. It was the beautiful episode where Skyler went into the pool during the dinner party.

True enough, but I give SW in general a pass on the magic bean thing, it's why I always prefer to call it "space fantasy" rather than "science fiction". Ditto for Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and other tales that are set in a magical world, rather than our own. In a "wonderland" as we have come to dub it here at DIF - hey, anything goes. Trolls and fairies and magic wands and time travel and ghosts - whatever. Bring it.
"Magic beans" apply to movies that are otherwise set in our world, where we don't routinely travel through time or meet angels or have wishes come true, etc. But you can get away with saying, "In this movie a guy has a teddy bear that's actually alive. Why? HE JUST DOES OKAY?" as long as you don't keep throwing in more impossible things afterward.
This movie is great Allison, DIF are wrong!

Also, Brick is great.
I think we should all be clear on one thing here, DIF aren't actually saying the movie is bad, just that there are things wrong with it. Which there is. The episode would be really dull if they all loved every bit of the film and wanked over it for two hours.

Well, they kind of did... and the episode would not be dull if they focused on covering the craft of filmmaking rather than focusing way, way too much on their own opinions.
Could not say about Dorkman but in no way was Teague being a whore... He did exactly what he should have done.
