Re: AMA.

I'm 23, I'm a college student in Maryland and I want to be in the movie business one of the days. I haven't really decided what area I wanna specialize in but I do enjoy editing and cinematography. I'm honing my skills and getting the vocab and all that shit whilst I'm college. When I'm not working or watching movies, you can usually find me watching sports, playing video games or just hanging out with my friends. I don't lead an overly exciting life but I make up for it for all the trivial knowledge I've amassed over the years. Also, I like to get really fucking drunk and call people. I have no problems with hangovers whatsoever.

Ask me anything.

Truth be told, I really don't remember the contents of the calls that well. I think I just say whatever is on my mind. I recall explaining to someone how "mom" and "mother" make sense but "dad" and "father" doesn't and how the word should be "dather".

I think I harassed Miki a week or so with my Mr. T impression from Rocky III. All I really remember is calling up and going "HEY WOMAN, HEY WOMAN" over and over again with some stupid shit thrown in.

And then about a month ago I drunk dialed Teague and that jerk didn't put him on speaker even though he was in the middle of a poker game with friends. Terrible manners on his part.

Re: AMA.

ANSWERS:

Owen: My monthly comic list has gotten a bit out of hand, with 25 or so titles I'm reading.  Some are bubble titles, and some are limited series and ending soon, so that may drop a bit.  Here's the list...
Berlin by Jason Lutes (more like yearly than monthly), Rasl by Jeff Smith, Powers, Fatale (or Criminal or Incognito - whichever Brubaker and Philips are doing at the moment), Saga, Mind the Gap, Mind Mgmt, The Massive, Moriarty, Saucer Country, Whispers, America's Got Powers (Jonathan Ross, more than a talk show host), Spaceman (and anything Azzarello and Risso do), Secret, Manhattan Projects, The Walking Dead (in hardcovers, not monthly), Batman, Detective Comics, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Batman & Robin, Batman, Inc., Batwoman, Birds of Prey, X-O Manowar (really excited about the Valiant re-launch, I was a huge fan in the early 90's), Harbinger, Bloodshot, Archer & Armstrong.  Wow, I may have a problem.

Big Damn Artist - I'm with Doctor Submarine, Kelly Clarkson's My Life Would Suck Without You...and at Christmas Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You

Re: AMA.

I get three of those Batman titles (Batman, Detective and B&R). It's the first time I've actually collected comics as they come out as opposed to just grabbing a random one every now and then.

Re: AMA.

Owen, was that prompted by the DC reboot at all?  I've really liked Snyder's Batman and his Swamp Thing even more.  1st time I've read Swamp Thing monthly since Alan Moore's run.

Re: AMA.

Sure, I'll play along.

My name is Tom, I'm 26. I was born and raised in a small municipality with only 10.000 Inhabitants known as Vågan, based in the Lofoten Islands in Norway. I attended primary school until I was 16, flunked out of junior high thrice, and since then, I've been on and off jobs like you wouldn't believe it. I've worked on onion crops, bingo halls, graphic design studios, farming factories, fish processing plants, I've been a street salesman, I've worked as a freelance VFX artist, I've done acting, flipped burgers etc. Currently I'm employed at the Norwegian equivalent of circuit city (or buy more, if you ever watched 'Chuck'), and I'm signed up for a year long contract there. I'm happy with it. I get to sell products I like, I get physical work in the storage warehouse, and I ride a back to and from work, which gives me about 8 miles worth of workout each day.

When I was 20, I became a father, and again 3 years later. I now have a 6 year old boy, and a 3 year old boy. Both with a woman I'm not currently in a relationship with. My current girlfriend and I have been going steady for a year and a half, and she has a 3 year old daughter from an earlier relationship I gladly take on the role as stepfather for.

I have a brother, 5 years younger than me, and a sister, 10 years younger than me. My brother just finished a year in the military, and is now attending university. My sister is going to junior high this fall.
My brother lived with his father, while my sister and I lived with our mother. I have a great relationship with my brother, but my sister.. not so much. She's 15, what did you expect, right?

I've performed music live infront of crowds, I've been in plays, and I've acted for a local film school. I'm currently taking singing lessons to improve, and I'm playing the guitar every day. My passions are filmmaking, visual effects, photography and music. I smoke, drink, and have spent a little under a year being a stoner, smoking weed. I've tried Amphetamine and Cocaine, and mushrooms, and have been addicted to neither. I've had signs of alcoholism, but nothing serious, and I'm sure nothing above the average unemployed 23 year old male would have either.

I'm smart, if smarts are measured in IQ(a score I've measured to 131), witty and sarcastic. I'm flirty and social. I hate mornings, and love nights. I've slept around more than I care to think about, and I've been in more fights than I should've been.

My facebook friends list says 208. My real life friends list is closer to 8.

So go ahead; Ask me anything.

Partly. I wasn't really a fan of Grant Morrison's take on Batman, so I was interested in what it'd be like post-Morrison. Also, I started university at around the same time as the New 52 debut - so that meant I could actually afford to keep up with a few titles (thanks student loans!).

@vidina - When you found out you were going to be a father, did you feel too young/not ready or anything like that? Or did the parental instincts just kick in?

It wasn't planned, so I wasn't ready at all for it, but once he was born, the parental instinct kicked in and saved me. I had no idea how to treat a newborn, but I guess I did it right.

Re: AMA.

Vidina, I'm curious about the ages you state for you and your sister in " middle school"  How does the grade system work where you are from? Here in the U.S. most kids start kindergarten around age five and then elementary school goes from first to fifth grades with middle school being sixth, seventh and eighth grades and high school being ninth through twelfth grade. Middle schoolers here are usually 12 or 13 with 16 year olds being in middle of high school as sophomores or juniors. Are your grades structured differently or do you start school later?

Re: AMA.

Primary school: 6-15/16. Junior High: 16-18. University/Senior: 18/19-however long it takes you to reach bachelor/master/etc.

Re: AMA.

In Scotland, it is-

Nursery: 3-5
Primary: 5-11
High School/Grammar/Secondary:  11-18
College/University is optional after High School, I didn't go until I was 21.

You can leave High School at 16 but they try to keep you on for two more years by paying you. Which is nice. Primary can start at 4 and High School may start at 12, it depends on which part of the year the child's birthday falls. It can get a wee bit complicated but what I wrote above  is bascially it.

I wish we had a universal system. Stuff like this would be so much easier.

You talk funny. It almost sounded like you said the gub'mint pays you to go to school.

All our Europeans: how well do your universal health care systems actually work? Choice of doctors, wait times for procedures, etc.

/America: home of cheering for people dying because they can't afford insurance

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

Zarban's House of Commentaries

Re: AMA.

It can vary.  At my local Doctor's Surgery, we can wait up to two weeks to see a Doc about something but if it is an emergency you are seen right away. I see what ever Doctor is available at the time but  can ask for one in particular if I wanted to then I'd have to wait until they have an opening (which may not actually take that long, like I said, it varies). Plus, we have Doctors who come to your house if you can't make it to the surgery or if it is out of office hours. For free. In Scotland, our prescriptions are free too while they pay for them in England for some reason, I don't know the specifics.

I have nothing but love for the NHS, it has helped me out no end with various ailments and it has cost me nothing my entire life. Dentists, on the other hand are a different story. You can get free dental treatment if you areon benefits but if you work full time, you have to pay. That is not the same for doctors.

Re: AMA.

@Zarban
Here in Iceland it is working rather well considering everything.

A little overview (from wikipedia):
The health care system is largely paid for by taxes (85%) and to some extent by service fees (15%) and is administrated by The Ministry of Welfare. A considerable portion of government spending is assigned to healthcare
There is almost no private health insurance in Iceland, and no private hospitals.

We pay for it with our taxes but then again... when the hit comes the system takes the biggest part of the blow.

Here is a little example. Few months ago my wife woke up one morning with a pain in her back. Three hours later she was admitted into the ER paralyzed. She had a virus infection in the spinal cortex and the inflammation paralyzed her from shoulders down. She is now in recovery and doing better although she is still in the hospital.

Ok let's look at this. Because we have been paying for the health system with our taxes we got world class health system. She has gone to countless different tests and scans.  She has had drugs that are so expensive that if we had to pay for them our self we would have been wiped out financially. She has been in hospital for almost four months and is geting access to amazing doctors, nurses, physical therapists and other specialized staff. She gets food, drugs and full service. I could go on and on but I'll keep this short.

Bottom line. We have payed since my wife got sick for the ambulance that took her to the hospital in dollars little under 38 bucks.

We pay for it in our taxes and the health system has been taking a massive hit because of the economic crash. The budget is being slashed rather heavily. But the doctors and the nurses are doing amazing work. Truth to be told most people I know think the US system is inhuman and nobody understands why you let the government  and the big business do this to you.
