John Carpenter confession time.

I'm with Teague, Halloween totally doesn't hold up.

I like Escape from LA better than Escape from New York.

And I also kinda enjoy Ghosts of Mars.

Re: #45 - Unpopular Opinions

I hate Halloween 1978.

The Godfather is one of the greatest movies ever.

I think Jumanji is good fun.

I hated Chasing Amy... and every other Kevin Smith movie, altho I haven't given Dogma a chance yet.

I was surprised to really like Donnie Darko.

Princess Bride is great, great, great.

Doctor Who is one of the most uneven shows I've ever seen, but I like it a lot.

I hate, hate, hate The Mist and Children of Men.

I really didn't feel the love for Game of Thrones. I was totally ready to love it, too.

The Beatles are the greatest, but their earliest stuff is pretty lame and their more avant garde later stuff is crap.

I like Terminator 3 just fine.

I hated ET when I was 14 and I hate it still.

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

This must be a cultural thing. Nobody openly hates Spaceballs over here. The fact that I'm not a huge fan myself is a shocker in most company.

Oh here we go.

I really like the Walking Dead, yes Season 2 was slow, but it never bugged me like it did some people.

Never watched Breaking Bad.

Halloween 3 Season of the Witch is my favorite Halloween movie.

Day of the Dead is my favorite of the Romero zombie movies.

Land of the Dead was underrated.

2001 is my favorite Kubrick movie (it's pretty unpopular around my friends)

I like Evil Dead 1 more then Evil Dead 2.

I REALLY don't like Lord of the Rings.

I like... The Postman.

I still love Tron.

Mars Attacks is my favorite Tim Burton movie.

I still like the Super Mario Bros movie.

I don't like Radiohead.

Muse is terrible.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor's 'Yanqui U.X.O.' is underrated as hell.

Metallica blows.

oh and my most terrible secret... Uwe Boll's Postal is the best video game movie ever made

The Lost World.... I see it as Steven's Spielburg's King Kong. THEY EVEN GET TO THE ISLAND IN UNDER AN HOUR-30. Sure, it has too many characters, one of which who gymnastics a dinosaur out of a window.....

It's still more enjoyable then Jurassic Park 3.

Re: #45 - Unpopular Opinions

Funny coincidence for this to come up right now, as I've started a string of commentaries for all Spider-Man films (concluding with the new one), in cross promotion with Crave Online's film channel editor. We're both defenders of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films (even certain bits of the third one, but more on that later). I know that's a hugely unpopular opinion at the moment (that sound you just heard was Brian Finifter's brain snapping apart like so much wet rope), especially given that we also weren't terribly impressed with The Amazing Spider-Man, whereas most of the free world seems to be all, "Finally! They got it right!" about it.

Here's a nice, introductory write-up on our strategy over the coming weeks, which includes a link to my friend's review of The Amazing Spider-Man, which mostly mirror my own feelings:

Re: #45 - Unpopular Opinions

With the exception of the True Grit remake, I don't like any of the Coen brothers movies, especially The Big Lebowski, which everyone always seems to go on and on about.

2001 and Citizen Kane are actually terrible movies. They pioneered techniques, but so does Piranha 3D. Both are dull meandering stories featuring some pretty horrid acting.

I hated every Transformers movie but found the second to be marginally more enjoyable that either of the other two.

I don't think The Wire is the best TV series ever made (based on the first one and half seasons at least).

With regards to the Big Bang Theory, it used to be quite funny but the latest season has been pretty terrible.

On the other hand, I like Willow a lot and enjoyed Sucker Punch and Eyes Wide Shut.

Re: #45 - Unpopular Opinions

Ok, I'll give this a shot-

*I like Jean Claude Van Damme films up to and including Timecop. I think Timecop is awesome fun. I also like Sudden Death but there is that awful Street Fighter movie between those.
*I think Quantum Leap is the best Sci-Fi show of all time.
*I have never watched Breaking Bad, The Shield or The Wire and I have absolutely no intentions to. I think they'd bore me. Give me fun shit like Leverage and Castle any day of the week.
*My favourite Bond films are Live and Let Die and Tomorrow Never Dies.....
* I unashamedly love the following films- Willow, Short Circuit, Die Hard 2, Labyrinth, The Faculty, Commando, Red Heat, The Running Man, Big Trouble In Little China, Demolition Man, Tango & Cash and Face/Off (and more).
* I  don't care about the Lord of the Rings films and I don't think Star Wars is all that great either. I do appreciate the legacy of the films, though.
* Kids shows from the 80s and 90s are 100% better than anything made now. Batman The Animated Series from the 90s is the best animated kids show of all time.
* I hate live music, I don't get the appeal. I want to hear a song I like the way that made me like it in the first place. Listening to it amongst loads of people singing along and the band/singer straying away from it (making it longer or changing lyrics or whatever) is just not for me.
* I like Phil Collins. I think he was an excellent drummer.
* I don't think The Muppets (2011) was all that amazing. It was ok but nowhere near as good as the early Muppet films. The Muppet Movie is one of the best films of the 70s......
* I don't think Toy Story is all that great. It's a technical marvel and has its place in movie history but I prefer the second film.

So.....yeah.......

They're somewhat campy, but likeable. I would also put Stargate into the same category.

I still like the first one. The two others can be a little exhausting.

I think the Bad Boys movies are Michael Bay's most watchable works.

This. I think it has something to do with Colbert being so deliciously satirical, where as Stewart should basically be your next president.

I agree with this too. I don't like Stewart very much. He does way too much of just playing a ridiculous fox news clip and then making ridiculous faces and yelling.

Colbert is much better at actually being witty and satirical.

I find the Daily Show much more varied; and sometimes, Colbert's 'one-dimensional' schtick can get a bit tiresome.

Yeah, that was a mix of confession and responding to the opinions on the podcast, just done as I was listening. I can't let someone shrug off Godfather or Princess Bride.

I listen to a few Doctor Who podcasts, and I'm always a bit surprised when people act like nearly all of Doctor Who is great when some of it really stinks.

Altho I don't share it, that is an understandable opinion. There was a point a few years ago that I realized the Coen brothers weren't the total geniuses I thought they were after Blood Simple and Raising Arizona and that they do a lot of things by feel rather than figuring it out intellectually. I really WANT Barton Fink to make perfect sense, but deep down I bet they themselves couldn't write a coherent 8th grade book report on it.

I like Stewart a lot more than Colbert, though I admire them both a great deal. Although it doesn't seem like it would be the case, Stewart is actually a lot more cutting and incisive in his criticism than Colbert is, because unlike Colbert he isn't hindered by having to play a character. Stewart makes points about the media that no one else on the planet is ever openly going to, and for that I can't help but love him.

Spaceballs is hated by those who, in general, hate later Mel Brooks films. Unlike with Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, you can tell Mel really doesn't like the subject he's mocking.

Music is probably one of the most subjective arts, so the easiest to have "unpopular" opinions on. Often it's just a case of most people only hearing a few songs from a group and never bothering to dig deeper. I have a friend who loves TOTO, especially their new stuff. Yes, the fact they kept releasing albums was news to me. By the same token, the last two TESLA albums have been great.
