Re: Doctor Who is awesome, yeah?
I still maintain that Robert Carlyle would've been interesting.
But pity the warrior who slays all his foes...

SO MANY GOOD CHOICES. OMG.
I really don't envy who ever has to cast this.
Carpe Diem!
I got it. I didn't say anything, But I got it.
Robert Carlyle would be excellent in the role, judging from his performance in Once Upon A Time, but said show would conflict with his schedule.

I would like a Doctor who is not a white man. On that note, Chiwetel Ejiofor has said he's interested.
I would totally be down for Chiwetel.
Chiwetel Ejiofor would be my pick if they were going for a non Caucasian. If not, David Mitchell or Bill Bailey. Both have guested on the show but BB has a very distinctive look so people would probably notice, so that counts him out.
I love David Mitchell deeply, but I can't see him as the Doc.
I can. Especially when he goes on one of his rants.
I guess... maybe I just have a very different idea of what kind of Doc I'd like to see...
Next gen and all that...
-shrugs-
Well, you have the kind of Doc you want to see and I do too. The Doc doesn't have to be attractive, it's not a show on the CW. A good actor with strong comic timing is what we need.
Oh for fuck's sake. I'm not getting into this with you BDA, sorry.
Fine. I don't want to either.
I'm just kinda curious how this went from me being slightly apathetic and generally very observant about the whole we obviously have different ideas about what we want the doc to be; to me being shallow and only interested in casting someone with looks.
Whatever. Walking away.
Only in your mind, BDA, only in your mind. Not once did I mention age or you being shallow, you are putting words in my mouth, so to speak.
Anyway, I don't have the energy but I'll try to word my posts better in the future.

Both have guested on the show
Both Colin Baker and Freema Agyman had bit parts before becoming regulars so never say never.
Oh, I know, that wasn't a negative. Not against Mitchell anyway, although Bill Bailey had a slightly bigger role (though not big enough) and he is quite recognisable so may be less likely. I hope not, though, Bailey was my pick the last time but it went to Matt Smith.
Karen Gillan appeared in an episode during Catherine Tate's series too.
David Mitchell should play a space bureaucrat behind a space desk explaining the space rules to an impatient Doctor.
I think they need to introduce another Time Lord (not the Master) for the Doctor to play off of.

that would work

Nah. One of the most interesting aspects of the Doctor (to me, at least) is the concept that he's totally alone.
The Master as a one-off wasn't too bad, but it suddenly starts losing it's impact if they start bringing back the Time Lords. I get annoyed enough when it's the Daleks or Cybermen every 3rd or 4th episode.
I feel like the show needs a refresh in more ways than just a new Doctor, at this point.

Yo this is my cousin Jimmy the Time Lord, I know we've never mentioned him before, but he's living here now.

Hah...like Doctor Who has neeeeeeeeeeeeever done that before.
Oh, and btw:
Idris: Did you ever wonder why I chose you all those years ago?
The Doctor: I chose you. You were unlocked.
Idris: Of course I was. I wanted to see the universe, so I stole a Time Lord and I ran away. And you were the only one mad enough.
Yet, in this season's finale...Clara is the one who chose which TARDIS the Doctor took. What was a really intriguing little exchange that created a sense of mystery and connection between the Doctor and the TARDIS...nevermind!
Inserting a character 20+ seasons into a storyline that is now magically supposed to have "always been there" throughout the entire show is audacious enough, but as soon as she hip-ly stopped the 1st Doctor was like "Hey, take this TARDIS instead!", I about threw something at the TV. The Doctor's Wife was one of the best Smith episodes, if not one of the best modern Who episodes...and to just piss all over one of the most mysterious and interesting plot points created in that episode just...ugh. *shakes head*
What's to say Sexy didn't already know Clara at this point, and asked her to push the Doctor a little?
But then why does Sexy dislike Clara in the present?
