A 55-year-old Doctor this time... I'm excited.

The Daleks were supposed to be annihilated in the Time War, but they've shown up in every new series.

Actually, I like the latest appearance of the Daleks, as well as the Ark and some other ways. Its been creative, as well as the fact that I have heard rumor that part o the contract with the Dalek creator's estate is number of Dalek appearances per season.

Also, honestly, I would be happy if the Doctor "died" (or whatever Time Lords do) at the end of his 13th regeneration and we have another spin off. Doubt it will happen, but it would be a good twist, especially given 13 some tension with the impending end of his/her/their life

I vaguely remember hearing someone say that they wouldn't do a gender swap because they didn't want to have to try and explain that to children. It is technically a kid's show.

This is true, it is a show that has a huge child audience so I can see the dilemma.

If kids can handle the idea of a 1200 year old alien who travels through space and time and has a body that changes every few years, I think they can handle the idea of a regeneration changing one's gender. There's not really a lot to explain there.

I think Capaldi's a great actor, but I probably won't start watching again until Moffat leaves.

God I want that version of Doctor Who so badly.

For the next hour, everything in this post is strictly based on the available facts.

Moffat has created stories that I like in the past, and although there wasn't much for me to like in series 6 or 7, one of those things was Matt Smith. But truth be told, if Smith had stayed on for another series as the Doctor, I probably give the show a past until Moffat left as well. As it stands, however, I'm much fonder of Capaldi than Smith, so I'm gonna give the next series at least a few episodes before I bail out.

Really?  Colin Baker's going to be your argument?  yikes

And on the companion side, it's taking me a minute to think.  You mean Lalla Ward and Freema Agyeman?

It would be three Companions then as Karen Gillan guested before she was cast too.

And, Faldor, guest appearances in one episode is slightly different from a semi-regular cast member becoming the Doctor big_smile

The list of companions who were on the show before is becoming quite long, as the two I thought of immediately were Harry Sullivan, who was in Carnival of Monsters the year before, and the astronaut who joined the Doctor in The Chase, the episode where Ian and Barbara left. The actor had appeared earlier in the same story as an American country bumpkin on top of the Empire State Building.

And, naturally, we might want to include The Brigadier in this as the actor appeared in The Dalek Master Plan (well, the one episode prologue)

The last two lines of that trailer fit the Doctor so well that I want them in the show. Love the grit that Capaldi brings. Actually, kind of reminds me of Eccelston, a little.

I hate everyone.

I liked his episodes in other seasons (original opinion alert) but I hate his style as a showrunner. Riddles and mysteries are wonderful, but making things as complicated and convoluted as possible and then giving us an answer in the finale isn't a great way to craft them. I prefer Toby Whithouse.

I haven't seen a lot of the older ones but that's cool the list is as long as it is smile

While Smith certainly was young, Tennant wasn't, and neither of those men is hot. Seriously, those people need glasses.

I think Tennant is a good looking guy and he was in his 30s, not exactly old, was he?

Yeah, a lot of people seem to have come around to that after series 6. I'd love to see what Mark Gatiss did with the series he did pitch a version in '04

I never said he was old. I said he wasn't young. I'm in my 30s myself, and there is a world of difference in that roughly ten year age difference.

As for their relative attractiveness, one of the things I've always liked about British TV is that it isn't always an endless parade of beauty queens and  models. Tennant and Smith are both just normal looking guys. I won't argue with your assessment that they're good looking, as that falls in the realm of personal taste, but hot? Um, no.

Feel free to jump them if you like, but I'm not gonna be in line for sloppy seconds and my head shall stay safely un-exploded.  wink
