Re: Doctor Who is awesome, yeah?

My interpretation.

  Show
The Curator is a very far in to the future incarnation of The Doctor, possibly his last. Knowing it's his last, he takes on an old face and decides to settle down. Why that face? I like to think he went to visit Sarah Jane for one last spin in the TARDIS with the Doctor she knew and loved.

As he said though, 'Who knows?'. It's a nice little mystery that will likely never be fully resolved.

Okay, why does everyone keep talking about his face?! An old face, that face, wrinkled face, a face for all ages bring the kids and buy some popcorn, wth is this obsession with his face?!

What Owen said.

Isn't it great that we are a community that can say 'fuck you' to each other, even in gif form without any repercussions? It's good that we are so comfortable with each other that we just know that saying that to someone else is a joke and in no way will piss the other one of. I love these forums.

BDA, I have a question-

SPOILER Show
Do you know who the Curator was?

Re: Doctor Who is awesome, yeah?

I said no because its a deliberately obscure scene.  The curator was played by former doctor Tom  Baker. Hence the reference to his face

And please don't swear at. It's not that kind of forum. Be cool.

Doctor - I never forget a face
Curator - I know you don't. And in years to come you might find yourself revisiting a few, but just the old favorites, eh?

Yeah, though I don't know how much of it was just a throwaway bone to the old fans in what was otherwise a very NuWho 50th anniversary celebration.

For the next hour, everything in this post is strictly based on the available facts.

Except that goes against everything we know about regeneration, unless he has a vacation home on the planet of the sisters whatsherfaces and can choose who he wants to be every time. Unless I'm missing something else entirely.

And thank you Faldor, that's really all I needed. I had no clue who that was or why it was such a big deal.

It's happened before back in the day. Romana was a Time Lady who travelled with the 4th Doctor for a while and she based her regeneration on a character they'd met in a prior episode.

So the whole idea of "spin the wheel, you'll NEVER know what you're gonna get" is pretty much just a nuwho thing they have to retconn with the classic who mythology?

Not really, it's never been the norm but it has been shown to happen. Doctor Who has never been very consistent though.

Re: Doctor Who is awesome, yeah?

I was giggling like a little girl all throughout the moments with Smith and Tennant at the same time. And the first time I saw Tennant again, I almost cried. Looks like the wound created by Tennant's departure will never fully mend...

Anyhow, amazing episode overall. The dynamic between the three doctors - the old grumpy war veteran still connected to the old era, the regretful Tenth and the dancing around baby Eleventh - was really great. I really like how they chose to take all these fifty years of Doctor Who and celebrate them, and I'm very, very excited about the season to come.

New Doctor, new goal - a fresh start. The upcoming searching for Gallifrey makes me think series 8 will focus more on the Doctor himself. Until now the show has always made me feel like it was more about the companions than the Doctor himself. Of course, their arcs were also a way to make his own story develop, but this time I would really love it if it was more like "the Doctor is going to search for Gallifrey, and his companion will be there to help him", not the opposite.

The weakest moments, if I had to pick some, were when the episode fully focused on the Zygon plot. I only wanted to come back to this big meta Doctor thing, which was awesome. I'm still very unfamiliar with the old era, so I could only guess what impact the times the episode connected with it could have on everyone. I still squealed a bit when I recognized Baker, and it kinda surprised me. I really have to check out his era...

PS: "I don't want to go". Really, Moffat? Ouch. Uncool, man. Uncool.

The vibe I got, and thus my personal canon, was that she was lying about being the Moment's interface and it was actually Bad Wolf Rose.

Oh, That's good. I love that. I'll have one of those.

Altho... Show
It slips a LITTLE at the end when Bad Wolf doesn't dissuade our Doctors and actually gives them a big red button to push. If that was the intention, then you'd think she'd forcefully try to get them to come up with something else. I was rather taken with the idea of a bomb so smart it doesn't want to be used. That felt like a Douglas Adams beat.

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

  Show
Well, if she's actually Bad Wolf and not The Moment's interface than she's not responsible for the big red button anyhow. Why is it there? Being a mystical Time Lord device, perhaps it can sense the Doctor's determination this time and knows he's actually ready to do the deed, and so presents itself in the form he'd previously requested. It didn't earlier because it could tell he wasn't willing or able to push a button.

My theory isn't perfect, but I think it works if you want it to work. The idea of a bomb so smart it doesn't want to be used IS clever, but then she Christmas Carols him into wanting to use the bomb anyhow, so that doesn't necessarily play either. The machine accidentally mistaking his future for his past seemed kind of naff to me, and I think it's a little more elegant if it's real Bad Wolf Rose rather than a projection. That said, I doubt it was Moffat's intent, and I'm probably just seeing what I want to see. Which is weird because I'm not even a Rose fan.
