Re: Third anniversary.

Congrats on the three years, and good luck going into this new phase. Pretentiousness is not a problem if its complex, nuanced, considered, informed analysis. Keep it up. Would much rather have you guys err on the side of pretentiousness than shallow, flippant, dismissive cynicism.

not long to go now...

Re: Third anniversary.

Pfft, that's a stupid thing to say.

Re: Third anniversary.

Sadly I arrived around the time you guys were ending the show so I wasn't able to hear the entire show.   sad   Fortunately you were able to upload this quickly so I can hear the entire thing.

Want to say that while I've been listening to DiF for little over a year, I've enjoyed every time I've been able to be for a live show and/or listen to your eps when they're available on archive.  You've guys been doing this for three years and not once did it seemed as though you were slacking off.  In fact, it looks as though you've only gotten better as time went on.

Congrates in having DiF go long as it has and looking forward to what you might have in store for the future.

Re: Third anniversary.

I actually want my refund now. It'd be cool to have cheque for $00.00.
I'd probably frame it.

Also, the April Fools thing is awesome.

I wish I could've flipped the video, but that would've made video cards everywhere cry out.

Happy anniversary folks.

Re: Third anniversary.

Happy anniversary, guys!

Change is bad (said the change management and training consultant). I have enough podcasts of dudes just chatting about movies and TV for 30 to 60 minutes a week.  But I look forward to whatever you decide to do from week to week. sad

I probably have a substantially higher tolerance for delays between releases, so I'd be happy if DIF did 1 commentary a month. I think other commentators I've greatly enjoyed have burned themselves out trying to be too regular. I've been amazed that DIF has soldiered on so regularly for so long.

However, regarding the community collapsing—I do retain the fondest memories of the Blackadder message board, circa 1996-97, where I'd see 80 or more messages a day from people who shared the same wry sense of humor, and the recursion and cunning plans were the stuff of legend. I wish that stuff was archived....

"Derek, but I'll change it to 'Ploppy' if that helps"

*PS—ALL those negative comments on iTunes are just me pranking you.

Re: Third anniversary.

I will admit, I haven't looked at the iTunes reviews in a LOONG time, completely forgot about their existence in fact. Until the anniversary show at least. But having looked at them again, this is easily my favorite piece of writing ever:

Re: Third anniversary.

The problem with calling people arrogant is that it's difficult to do so and not come off as arrogant yourself.

Which is why I decided not to take a potshot at his reference to "They Abyss".

However, I will say that the first person to do a They Live/The Abyss mashup poster with that title deserves all of the user karma available.

Re: Third anniversary.

Holy crap you guys three years.

I just want to put this in perspective for you. When I started listening to to DiF, I was 17, lived in Red Deer, AB, and was sorta fumbling my way through teaching myself some 3D and film stuff and finishing up High School. 6 months later I moved to Vancouver, BC. I then did two years of film based university. And now I'm a professionally working Visual Effects artist and aspiring filmmaker. And the entire fucking time I was listening to DiF.

Thank you guys, I really truly couldn't have done it without you; and none of you will ever really understand how true that sentiment is.

Re: Third anniversary.

Congrats on the Third Age of DIF

Nice episode although I missed Eddie and some of the other regulars.
Thanks  for the almost shout out although you did not remember my name.

Forever alone!

I also enjoyed having the “most liked” post title (Precious) even if the title was taken away from me in the next sentence. Well, you win some you loose some. Who can be miffed loosing out to Zarbaggins, probably the most memorable fan art I’ve ever seen on the forums and for sure the funniest.

Re: Third anniversary.

Also, fun fact. DiF saw me through two seperate legal drinking ages...even if I wasn't actually able to take advantage of the first one.

18 for AB even though I was in BC at the time
and 19 for BC

And I fully expect DiF to carry me through to 21 this year, hopefully by which time I can do something actually awesome, unlike the previous 2 hmm

That's funny. I like how his/her name is appropriate and I'd like to know who the ONE person who found their review helpful.

DiF got me through some tough times. Two years ago (on the 30th March), my sister was involved in a bus crash that left one of her friends dead and your podcasts got me through. And last year, in the space of two weeks I lost my grandfather (to Cancer), my cousin (to suicide) and a family friend (again to that fucker Cancer) but a couple of live shows with DiF cheered me up no end and for that, guys, I am grateful smile

Wow, that's some rough stuff. Glad that you were able to make it through with help from some friends in your head wink

I agree that I would like to know who found that review helpful. Apparently talking down to people is a helpful trait. Eh, it would be a waste of space to defend DiF on the DiF forums, so I'll just bring on the anniversary goodness:

You guys rock! You are those crazy friends that I would probably hang out with after someone stole my lunch money...so, your comments and humor often make me laugh and help chores go by better.

I look forward to the new thing!

Thanks smile And I was going through that second rough patch round about the time of the Wanted commentary. That day will always hold a special place in my heart. Puke-inducing, I know but it doesn't make it any less true big_smile

I second this. I also like that you guys will tell us to piss off if we've been hanging around you for too long. That sort of honesty is rare big_smile

And it's always great to see some Hanna-Barbera on the forum https://encrypted-tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRga6SeKpscDL4Y5fgmfWbYEmEjlXo-JCy1-sfK_RDbxBXBAp2G

How fascinating. I can sort of see where he/she's coming from, a first-time listener might well come away with that same attitude if they hadn't only listened to some of the 'negative' commentaries. Arrogance seems one of those words that gets thrown around too easily nowadays, and seems woefully out of place here.

Probably a prequel fan.

I like that when someone quotes that review it says 'Brian wrote' big_smile Something you want to tell us, Brian, or should that be 'Vile5'?
