Topic: [ALBUM] Fighting in Plain Sight - Original Score

So, Eddie Doty is an insane person who likes to make whole documentaries in five days. The doc we did is freakin' awesome, but you won't be able to see it for a few weeks. (I think. I dunno. Whatever the festival says.)

However, you can totally listen to the soundtrack I cooked up! Free download or stream, six tracks, a little less than ten minutes.

Boom!

As an aside, this was a really fun week. Lots of DIF folk piled into Eddie's office, sleeping on floors, makin' thigns happen. The team included Eddie, Harrell, Brian, Dorkman, Ryan, Miki, and myself, plus some others that I don't think the DIF community knows. Great team, great experience, proud of what we did. We shall discuss the project further when the doc goes online, at which time Eddie will be received as a god in the thread about his movie. Until then, hey, music! cool

Did you start composing Visible when Eddie called you at 2AM or wait until the morning?

Re: [ALBUM] Fighting in Plain Sight - Original Score

I composed Visible at about three thirty yesterday afternoon. :-P It was my second-to-last major job on the show, and I think... third one yesterday.

Sounds like Clint Mansell did a version of the ending theme from The Incredible Hulk. And it's my favorite.

It's probably my least favorite track, honestly! Had zero time to waste tweaking it or perfecting it, just slammed it out.  tongue

I absolutely LOVE the sound of this. Your influences are clear, but it's really original at the same time. Great work!

Dude, seriously. I'm tired of having to tell you that you're awesome.

Gravity's my favorite one. It has such a great atmosphere. And I always love this kind of smooth reversed sounds. As I said on Twitter, it reminds me a bit of some tracks from Black Mesa's soundtrack (remake of the original Half-Life game). And while Engage has some Daft Punk tones to it, the synth bass with the drums take me back to Unreal Tournament and its amazing soundtrack. Yes, I relate much to video games.

I'd love to know a bit more about how you made all that (gear, software), too.

Funny you say that because Engage reminded me of some tracks from the Deus Ex video game sound tracl

God loves you!

Then we're on the same page, because Deus Ex's soundtrack was made by the exact same guys who made Unreal Tournament's soundtrack (Alexander Brandon, Dan Gardopée, Michiel van den Bos).

Did not know that. I feel like I learned something today.
Also, Teague should know that this is a compliment as I love the Deus Ex sound track.

Re: [ALBUM] Fighting in Plain Sight - Original Score

Teague absolutely killed this.  Monday at 3:30 am I reached picture lock, and as I figured out the ending, I temp tracked it with "Moon and Moon," by Bat For Lashes.  I slept easy that night knowing that Teague would give me something close to that, while being wholly original.  He did the opposite of disappoint.  The contest rules say I can post a link after finalists have been announced, sometime in early April.  In the meantime enjoy Teagues awesome score.

I love it when Teague makes more music, because then I get to listen to it.  smile Seriously Teague, I love your music. If you ever charged for an album, I would buy it.

Re: [ALBUM] Fighting in Plain Sight - Original Score

I was sitting around rather bored in the edit suite, whilst I'm waiting for footage to finish transcoding and such. So, I see a mic lying around and decide to have a fuck about. That culminated in me putting some vocals on 'Engage'. They're not great by any standards, but it was a fun deviation from watching a progress bar.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT OWEN

Can I have your unprocessed vocal stem? I'd love to mix this in properly and release it as a remix!

(Not that it was mixed poorly here, but I can re-arrange the levels of individual tracks to blend it together.  cool )

Re: [ALBUM] Fighting in Plain Sight - Original Score

Sure thing. I just listened to it without the music and GarageBand's 'Male Rock Vocals' setting...it's horrible  tongue.

Is .aif good for you?

Pretty cool. I think it's all left channel, tho, so that needs to be balanced. A little Autotune wouldn't hurt none.
