Topic: Breaking Dawn, part 2. [some spoilers within]

Oh god, that monkey-demon baby. People in the cinema laughed out loud.

Can we all go back to our lives and forget this ever happened please?

If you're going to bother watching it you should seeing with the opening weekend Twihards. There's a deviation from the book that is truly epic, both in itself and in the degree to which the fans react that made the entire experience for me.

But yes, there is a CG baby so poorly done it verges on Lovecraftian, and pretty much every line is ridiculous.

Is that deviation the fact that something actually happens?

Yes, actually.

I haven't read the books but my sister has and she said the ending of the fourth book was awful as nothing happened. I have heard reviewers say they like new ending because it deviates from the book smile

"Twihards." [takes note]

There's a lot of overlap with Beliebers, I gather.
Bronies, I hope, have at least slightly better sense.

The cinema I was in *erupted*.

I can't picture myself actually paying for that, but now with your comments I want to see it, with a huge bowl of pop-corn by my side.

I just read a full synopsis of the film online and basically it grows a set of balls then castrates itself just as quickly.....

Yeah, so no 'story' at all.

  Show
What "might" have happened is a dream sequence
. Nobody changes in any meaningful way, no conflict is resolved
  Show
except the main love triangle.
They do have vampire sex, in a PG sort of way. Shark boy disrobes brifly. The CG baby isn't unforgivably bad, IMO, just uncanny like it was state of the art in 2001.

This had the ladies, in the session I was at, out of their seats. I've not read the books, although I did try to make my way through the first, but apparently this is a pretty different turn of events.

SPOILER Show
My cynicism says that this is to leave room for more sequels,
but that's just crazy talk.

Re: Breaking Dawn, part 2. [some spoilers within]

SPOILER Show
The big battle scene where everyone kills each other was not in the book. In the book the two sides meet in the field, they talk, the Volturi are successfully convinced to stand down, and they all leave. To be fair, there is a sense of tension (the last half of the last Twilight book is actually decent, almost like a real author showed up) which wouldn't come across in a Wiki synopsis -- the wrong word at the wrong time and things could turn deadly -- but it doesn't happen. The whole dream sequence/vision isn't in the book, and as such when major characters start viciously murdering each other, absolutely nobody in that audience was expecting it.

Ye gods, I thought the soft ending was the cop out. Props to the production, the battle scene was aggressive and visceral.

So I saw this with my film class (Women and Pop Culture) and let me tell you that sitting next to your professor/a film scholar who knows nothing about the franchise is great.

And the deviation/only good sequence was honestly kind of a thrilling experience. Everyone was screaming and I would be lying if I said I didn't get sucked into it.

My reaction to the battle sequence:

What. The. Fuck.

WHen he did that laugh, I leaned over to Mike and said, "Well....that was certainly a....choice."

Stop making me want to see it. I have a longstanding "don't pay for Twilight" rule, and I'm not about to break it, no matter how hilariously awful it looks.

Re: Breaking Dawn, part 2. [some spoilers within]

So, I have crazy amounts of love for Michael Sheen. In fact, he's the sole reason I checked out that OTHER sexy vampire franchise. Is there enough Sheen in the Twilight series to get me through them? I've got a morbid curiosity now that the whole thing is over.
