Thanks for the welcomes, all. I promise not to be a bot. Brain in a vat's OK though, right? I'm just asking for a consciousness whose sensory input patterns my mental pathways become accustomed to.

Hello all, once upon a time I was a regular visitor, but limited poster at TFN, and posted under the name Darth_Abdax. Been a couple of years since then and am now working in cinematography and lighting. I have opinions that go against the norm, and love to discuss and argue. But it's all in good fun.

Hello

My name is Dorian, I live just outside Geneva in Switzerland. I am a part time self employed computer programmer and part time stay at home dad.

Currently working my way through the back catalogue of episodes, should keep me going for a while! My favourite so far is the 2010 Moby Dick episode as it was very interesting to hear everyone's tales of working on it, especially Trey.

I am a fan of all genres of film, and look forward to being here on the boards.

Thanks for all your hard work guys.

Well... yeah, that was the joke  big_smile  People often confuse Switzerland with Sweden.

I kind of wish I could say I was a Swede living here in Switzerland but I am actually British. Well, Welsh, if you want to be pedantic!  My French is merde, but I am trying to learn it as fast as I can.

I went to Switzerland last year, but to the Valais. People speak mostly french around Geneva, right? They're probably better at speaking english than we are, though.

Re: The New Introduction Thread

Yes, Geneva is in the French speaking part but the reason my French is SO bad is because most people speak English and when I go into a shop or need to speak to someone they always come back at me in English. The happens 70% of the time.

Valais is a cracking area, we are actually going there this weekend to a place called Leukerbad, am really looking forward to it.

Re: The New Introduction Thread

First of all, yes I was watching Robocop when I signed up. It and the first TMNT movie were in heavy rotation for me as a child. That, plus seeing candyman at age 9 and Seven in theaters at age 11, made me who I am today. Which means most of my girlfriends have asked my parents what the fuck.

I am 28 and currently live in the Indianapolis area, I have lived in Indiana all my life except for a cold, dark year in Michigan. I work as a histotech for a medical company, not what I want to be doing but it's paying the bills. Hopefully I wont retire from it, but there are worse outcomes I guess.

I love all kinds of movies mostly from the 70's till now, I have yet to go back and see some of the classics that came before then. Partly because Im too lazy to find a copy of citizen kane and partly because, fuck you, for saying I dont know a good movie if I havent seen something.

When I was a child I wasnt allowed to watch sesame st or mr rodgers or any of that wholesome give everyone a hug crap. So I probably know a couple orders of magnitude more about classic cartoons such as Hong Kong Phooey, than the average person under 30. I also never met anyone else who has seen or remembers seeing Yogi's first christmas or the good the bad and the huckleberry hound.

I found DIF not long after my dad died. Working nights alone left too much time alone with my thoughts and I discovered it's much more fun to have four friends in my head.

I look forward to being a active member of the forums, be prepared for the occasional dumb question since 80% of my film making knowledge I have learned from DIF.

I lived in Carmel for about five years, btw, and Holden lives in Fishers. Indiana people are better people than other people.

Re: The New Introduction Thread

Hi everybody. I'm Rob. I've been lurking and listening, listening and lurking, for a long time.

What hooked me in originally was that DiF is about movies, and I like movies. But frankly, what has kept me a listener all this time is how Teague and everybody on the show regularly display a collection of interests/obsessions/passions that are eerily similar to my own—whether it's having an admiration for philosopher-king William Goldman, or just loving science and being in a perpetual state of awe at NASA and, well, the universe in general. (I've revisited the Apollo 13 commentary several times just to hear Brian's story about the NASA public relations guy who pleaded with the CAPCOM not to say "Uh, yeah, that's affirm, Dick.")

Other random facts:

For work reasons, I have dual residency in NYC and Chicago, however, I once lived in the shittiest apartment in in North Hollywood for one year.

When people invite me over, I always look in their medicine cabinet. Always.

I own an early printing of Ricky Jay's book Cards As Weapons.

Re: The New Introduction Thread

Thanks for the welcome.

That book is truly one hell of an artifact. Its many gems include a photo (taken in the 1970s) of Ricky Jay and Carl Sagan. The caption says they are discussing "the possibility of throwing cards on Mars." Jay looks like the lead singer from Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Sagan is wearing a Mr. Furley-style shirt.

So, yeah, that book is about the coolest thing I own.
