Topic: Darths and Droids

I might be the last one on the boat with this one, but I just found out about his webcomic (http://www.darthsanddroids.net/episodes/0001.html) and it is brilliant.

Basically imagine the entire Phantom menace told as though Qui Gon and Obi Wan are RPG players with no clue about anything, fighting the game maker and his attempts to tell his story. (Not to mention a SIGNIFIGANT amount of commentary on the mockery of logic that is this film)

This is easily the funniest and most genius thing I've read in a long, long time. And I'm only on page 44!

Enjoy.

Holy crap...they've done all of them??!

Alright, I guess new plan is to just finish TPM tonight. I've already spent three hours on it so far, and they're just about the get to Naboo again, might as well finish the bitch off.

When first coming upon a web comic a good thing to do is click on the 'latest comic' link or go to the homepage just to see if it's still in production. This one put up a new comic today smile

I'm turned off by the use of screen captures instead of artwork, so while I'm sure the script is great I'll pass for now. Besides, I have 4 years of back Penny and Aggie comics to get through to catch up to the new stuff...

Well that would sorta defeat the entire purpose, but sure, to each his own.

Re: Darths and Droids

Depends on the purpose smile I hoped from your first post it would be more of an actual comic as you can do a lot when you're not limited by what was actually shot, but this technique is rather common. It's a way for someone who can't draw to do a comic, and as a non-artist I do sympathize.

I started reading when they first started, following a link from DM of the Rings. [/hipster]

They're not finished yet, just closing in on the end of ROTS.

This is the pinnacle of evolution. The multiverse came to be so that, eventually, through an incredibly complex and indescribably unpredictable series of events, this could be created.

Goddammit! I'm 14 years clean and sober from Dungeons & Dragons, and you give me this?! Now I have to call my sponsor!

Well considering there purpose is to retell the movies (basically shot for shot) as though it were a game of RPG...and to make it all work and seem like a logical progression. I think using custom artwork would have been something of a step backwards.

Re: Darths and Droids

Okay, I've read the entire first two adventures (Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones)—more than 400 pages—and it is still goddamn hilarious.

Teague, if you didn't look into it, you have to at least read the "notes" on the interim "low-magic fantasy campaign" they played.

Re: Darths and Droids

I made it a little way into Menace, but I'm not a fan of comics in general and it wasn't something that kept me reading. I'll check out that link, though.

Was gonna post about this again, but then there's a thread for it already, albeit 4 years old.

To those who've forgotten, these guys are still going strong. They're now in the third act of Empire, and my god, it's still hilarious.

Re: Darths and Droids

I have a bookmark folder in Chrome, where Darths & Droids sits among 23 other webcomics. Its Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday update schedule is awesome in a sea of Monday/Wednesday/Fridays.

At some point I'll definitely have to go through and re-read, because when something goes so off tangent...

...like Nute Gunray appearing in Cloud City...
then I get confused.

Holy crap, talk about a post bump.

I got lost about 3/4's of the way through New Hope and haven't hadn't the energy to find out where exactly I stopped reading and go back and catch up.

Re: Darths and Droids

Today's strip, guys. And be sure to read the newspost below it.

I was born six years after Empire released. Star Wars being at least somewhat pervasive in my household, by the time I could remember things I already knew that Vader was Luke's father. I don't remember what it felt like to find out or even if I was mature enough to connect the dots and feel as gut-punched as Luke looks onscreen. And if I wanted to find out more, Jabba's Palace was just an epilogue and another crawl away, right there.

So now that they talk about it that way, I do kind of appreciate them keeping us in suspense for an extra couple of days tongue

Like, I want to see if my Dad is reading it. (He got me into roleplaying as well.) And ask him if he remembers what he felt coming out of Empire that first time.
