Re: Release, Record: 11/9

As a film, V for Vendetta came 20 years too late. Once we shifted from Reagan-Thatcher Cold War to Osama-al-Qaeda War on Terror, V became a distasteful relic. V comes off as a demented and cowardly sociopath bent on random destruction rather than the leader of a grassroots rebellion. And the whole "Ha ha! I tortured you to make you stronger. ROFLOLs!" thing was idiotic.

I feel much the same way about Moore's Watchmen, altho I think it holds together better as a film.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

I first saw strange days back in 98 or 99 I believe.  But I must confess, I only saw it at the time to see Juliette Lewis' bewbs...  I was surprised to find that the flick itself was friggin' awesome!

And I mean my RL Brit friends...

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

Haven't seen the new War of the Worlds, so this will be interesting. It is one of those cases where I agree with massive changes to the book- the whole idea was to show how an alien invasion would be "now", so it makes sense to always update it to reflect modern conditions. Not that I wouldn't mind seeing a GOOD period adaptation.

(I'll give bonus points for every reference to the rock opera that gets worked into the commentary)

The part with the alien invasion is the part that a lot of people - myself included - have a hard time getting over, not to mention a few other things that prevents the movie from making sense.

I don't have E.T. either. I dunno if my rental place will have it. I should probably just buy it...  It's probably $5 at walmart...

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

V for Vendetta was in the $5 bin, but I seriously doubt you'll find something by Spielberg in there.

I almost picked up Sugarland Express from the $5 bin a couple of weeks ago, and I'm pretty sure I saw Hook and Always in there. You could do a Steven Spielberg Mild Disappointment Film Festival out of that.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

I'm gonna go on record with an opinion that releasing commentaries early but prohibiting discussion kind of defeats the purpose of having a discussion board, and of releasing them to our most dedicated discussion participants. Maybe that's just me.

Re: Release, Record: 11/9

Yeah. I'd rather see a thread for the movie as soon as it is recorded so discussion can go there, since anyone in the chatroom has effectively heard the commentary. Or better still, create an episode thread for them when they are announced for recording, rather than just making this thread longer and longer with pre-discussion of each film.

I've only ever seen Green Mile once, and that was on TV. I remember liking it, but I don't remember it being over 3 hours long!
