Topic: Hugo

Also known as Film Fags, Fap!

Part biography, part schmultz; I loved this as a love story about film. I could have happily skipped the child-friendly aspects and watched a 2 hour dramatisation of Georges Méliès' life, but I don't think that film would have been made as well as this was.

I came away from this with the thought that if I had children, it would be nice if they liked this film. These imaginary children would then watch old pictures with me, and learn where the stories came from.

Did you like it?

Re: Hugo

It was a nice movie. Maybe a little too visually stylized for my taste, but it still looked beautiful. I'm not sure I'd nominate it for best picture (but then I didn't see too many movies this year that I would say are objectively better).
It's certainly a movie aimed at Hollywood nostalgia.

I think I agree with you, my favorite scenes were the flashbacks to Melies' film projects.

Re: Hugo

One of my least favorite of the Best Picture nominees. The Melies stuff was great, but everything that happened in that train station was pointless and boring.
