Reminds me of the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack - You call this style Dust Bowl South?

Well it's not quite the Antebellum south, but that weird period that is pre-depression, post Reconstruction.  Essentially it's when my grandfather grew up, and where he grew up.

Stephanie Wooten, the girl from the Aladdin commentary, worked on that Vader VW ad.

Re: Cool vids...again.

Been watching some old Jackie Chan fight scenes on youtube and thought I'd post one or two...

I lost count at the number of times I said 'ouch' watching this, shame the foley is a bit shit-

This one is from a shit film but I love the use of props in it. I also love that Jackie really doesn't want to fight here and he hardly throws a punch at all-

Ah, Benny "The Jet," Urquidez.  Only Kickboxer of the 70's-80's era that retired undefeated.  I got to do a seminar with him back in 95 and that really helped me understand ring psychology a lot.

This, was, astounding.

And with that I now have stuff to listen to for the rest of my day.

EDIT: I was saddened to discover this is their only really recorded song sad Any recommendations for other bands Eddie? I too love this style.

Re: Cool vids...again.

Really the best way to find music like this is to track the inspirations.  Mountain music, gospel, mississippi blues, folk, and Black Swan, apparently.

Closest things I could recommend is NickelCreek, Chris Thomas King, Justin Robinson and the Mary Annette's, and the DangerMouse/Norah Jones side project.

FYI, the album was funded entirely through Kickstarter before they got signed.

Civil Wars are great.  They're gonna be on the Hunger Games soundtrack I think.

I had never heard of The Civil Wars or Delta Rae before today but both those songs were awesome.

I won't post any Scottish music big_smile

When people here me say that I am Brazillian Jiu Jitsu practitioner, they think that I'm Brazillian.  Sigh.  THis is what I mean, people.

Wow, that was also great, the first little bit kinda sounds like something the Barenaked Ladies would have written for Firefly.

And Jimmy, if you have something, please do. I'm always in the mood for new music.

I don't, I was just joking because Scottish music if often reviled (bagpipes etc) big_smile

Re: Cool vids...again.

big_smile Love it.

These Scots were big in the 80s with this song-

Have you ever seen this clip of David Tennant in Scots sitcom Rab C. Nesbitt back in the late 80s/early 90s?

Re: Cool vids...again.

Used to listen to a lot of Scottish music.
The Jesus and Mary Chain, Arab Strap, Belle & Sebastian, Mogwai, Travis and bands like that.
Love the story in New Birds.

Re: Cool vids...again.

The whole video that clip is from. It's the cast and crew video for one of the David Tennant seasons, can't remember which, some really great moments scattered throughout.

Re: Cool vids...again.

I actually got to see that commercial before it aired. Guy I do freelance work for a bunch (and used to be Steph Wooten's boss) owns the sound design company that did this commercial. I happened to be in there the week before the Super Bowl and he showed it to me. Then I found five dollars.

Watched this a bunch of times before I noticed her reflection in the mirror when the door opens. Cool beans.
