Topic: Lead From Front

This one’s directed to Eddie and Matt. Have you guy’s ever thought about doing a sister podcast to Down In Front where you would explore more martial aspects of the cinema history.  You could bring in guests with knowledge pertaining to the subject.

I would propose to call the podcast Lead From Front (if you don't get it then get the hell out of my army).

You would cover pretty much anything you are interested in.

The Longest Day, Tora Tora Tora, Das Boat, The Hurt Locker, Platoon, Braveheart, Top Gun, The Green Zone, Full Metal Jacket, Pearl Harbor (if only for the attack). Saving Private Ryan (if only for the attack),  Word at War, Navy Seals, GI JANE, Enemy at the Gates, The Beast, Band of brothers (One podcast per episode), 24, Game of Thrones, The Pacific, The Best of the Best, Bloodsport, Ong Bak, Yojimbo , Warrior, Kung Fu Panda, Red Belt, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, Gymkata, Drunken Master, Police Story, Ip Man, Enter the Dragon, 13 Assassins, The One-Armed Swordsman, Lone Wolf and Cup, Karate Kid, Tombstone, The Wild Bunch, Spaghetti westerns.

The list is endless but you get the gist...

Everything and anything is on the table.

So what do you guys say? Are you in?

I would never lie. I willfully participate in a campaign of misinformation.

Re: Lead From Front

Interested? Sure.  I think the bigger question is how much interest there might be for that sort of thing, around here anyway.  I got the impression that our Hurt Locker episode wasn't terribly well received due to all the military talk.  To be fair, I believe that was my first time on mic, and I kind of stumbled through it.

I wouldn't have a whole lot to say about martial arts stuff or westerns though, and I don't know how long we could go before we just start covering the same ground over and over again.

That said, I'd be willing to give it a shot.

I love that we already have a title, font and graphic too; great job Ash!

Re: Lead From Front

That would be really cool actually. I'm a big fan of the whole war/martial-arts/westerns genres, and it might be cool to get a more analytical perspective of what makes genre movies like this work/not-work.

But maybe I'm crazy, I loved the Hurt Locker and Full Metal Jacket commentaries

Re: Lead From Front

The idea of sort of "mini-series" podcasts like that might appeal to both listeners and DIF. Do however many episodes until you've exhausted the subject, then stop. In a way, they'll be more "timeless" than the current movie episodes, the kind of thing that will pop up in searches and bring new people to DIF as time passes.

As for possible subjects, I would love talk on the tradeoff between historical accuracy, and... well, being good smile Use A Bridge Too Far as an example, as I need to know what the hell isn't working...

What a fantastic idea. I'm definitely in.

Re: Lead From Front

Huh....can't say I'm not intrigued by the idea.  I've been trying to develop an MMA podcast for almost a year that is mainly war stories from the dark days of the sport.  I had though of incorporating fighting movie talk, but that's not what that is about.  But this...hmmm...let me think on this for a moment.

If this included discussion of stunt and pyro work, I'd be pretty damn happy.
