I would like to see Sam Jackson back, actually. I wonder if Zeus and John became friends? Or bring back Al, he's awesome too.

Re: I just watched A Good Day To Die Hard...

A part of it was also that I didn't think Bruce Willis did a good job at being John McClane again, instead he played an idolised, movie hero version of him. Same with Ford with Indiana Jones, I think time and the popular culture impression of the character twisted the portrayal somewhat.

In comparison, Stallone did much better at returning to his characters. Rambo felt like Rambo, not a parody beefcake version of him, same too with Rocky Balboa. Such that both of these new films I thought are amongst the best in their respective series.

I agree with the above post. A lot.

I think the way Stallone slips back into the Rocky persona proves he's an underrated actor. Watch both films back to back, they are very different performances.

Re: I just watched A Good Day To Die Hard...

I also agree with the above two statements. Willis plays his character as larger than life hero who isn't afraid of anything. He is no longer the  "everyman" hero that can be easily identified with by the audience. He literally is a caricature of himself.

Its like this is the movie about the Internet meme of John Mclain rather than a person. It makes for a disappointing movie that no explosion can fill.

Re: I just watched A Good Day To Die Hard...

I'm on record as Rocky Balboa being my favorite of the series.

Quite frankly, if there wasn't an unfair negative perception of Stallone from the Hollywood elite, I think it should've gotten some Oscar consideration.

I mean The Fighter came out 5 years later, basically borrowed major components of Rocky Balboa (especially in the approach to fight cinematography), and got a bunch of Oscar buzz in the process.

Dude, the Fighter had Mark Wahlberg AND Christian Bale. Clearly superior to Stallone, amiright?

I fucking loved that Return of Bruno album. I listened to that bastard for hours while shooting baskets in my driveway.

I think Die Hard 3 is a perfect example of how it can be done well. They didn't just rehash the first one, but kept a lot of the elements that make Die Hard great (interesting villain, cool bad guy plan that isn't what it seems, violent and hard hitting action sequences), and most importantly stayed true to the essence of the character. McClane is hung-over, suspended, seperated from Holly, and ends up forced into this crazy situation where he has to rely on his instincts to survive. There's one or two implausible action sequences, but I like to allow 1 of those per movie. Die Hard has the firehose off a sky-scraper, Die Hard 3 it's the water tunnel sequence.

The most important part for me is that McClane is still a vulnerable and relatable hero, he gets ROYALLY fucked up in Die Hard 3 by the end.

HUG! Thank you! There are days where I think Die Hard 3 is actually *better* than the first.

Honestly, if the ending was a bit stronger, Die Hard 3 would be my favorite of the series
