Re: THE LORD OF THE RINGS

This is the first time I've seen Viggo being himself...and that is not the same human being, there is no fucking way.

Re: THE LORD OF THE RINGS

Alright, I finally got thru them all. It took me close to 3 weeks, but I did it. It's nothing impressive, compared to the DiF fellowship, but still.

My hat goes off to Dorkman for not only not tapping out, but also, riding it out, with interesting things to say whenever he said it. Trey also gets a nod for not tapping out, but i didn't feel he was present as much as Dorkman.

I guess I'll have some more episode-related comments and quirks down the road, but for now, congrats guys. I really wish I didn't have kids so I could partake in it tongue

Viggo seems pretty normal to me in that video.  How different did you think he'd be? hmm

I just finished the last of the Lord of the Rings commentaries, and damn, what great work. Always positive. Always informative. Thanks again.

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

Re: THE LORD OF THE RINGS

Saw this one on Reddit. I had not seen it before.

Frodo turning into a Gollum-like creature. This is a behind the scenes image from a deleted scene in LotR; it was intended to occur right after Frodo freaks out on Faramir, when Faramir is pushing him against the wall with his sword.

I don't feel sorry for Townsend when he got booted off the set.
Charlize Theron would have consoled his brains out.

Good makeup, but I'm very glad they decided to cut that bit. Doing it with Bilbo was genuinely freaky; I have a feeling it would've been far less successful if they repeated it.

Re: THE LORD OF THE RINGS

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone's ever listened to the soundtrack from the LotR musical (sorry if this is earlier in the thread; didn't want to have to dig through it all)? It's a nice mix of insanely catchy Hobbit drinking chants and beautiful half-English half-Elvish pieces. For a taste of the former:

And the latter:

Re: THE LORD OF THE RINGS

Huh....I saw the Toronto version of the Lord of the Rings musical and it was bad. Really bad. For example the Lothlorien song was Galadriel divaing for 6 minutes about how sad she was that Lothlorien and the Elves were fading away. No singing Legolas or acrobatic elves. No particular relation to the plot or overarching themes otherwise in the musical.

I heard they'd revamped it for London, but hadn't realized they changed songs too. Huge improvement. I hope they didn't change the Balrog. That part was awesome.

Dammit Darth Praxus, I'm hooked on this musical now. I've been listening to it for the last couple days. So good.

I honestly can't listen to The Cat and The Moon without instantly getting happy now, damn Hobbit drinking songs.

Glad to be of service, sir. smile It's even better if you watch the official music video for the song, featuring tons of awesomely choreographed Hobbit-dancing.

Re: THE LORD OF THE RINGS

Really enjoyed these commentaries, thanks! It makes laying up textbooks in InDesign that much more stimulating tongue

I'm a born and bred Kiwi, living just outside of Wellington, so I know a lot of the people who worked on the movies - mostly the horse wranglers, because I do a lot of horseriding. Also one of my cousins was an orc, and another one used to go partying with the Hobbits in Wellington on a regular basis. My own 'claim to fame' if you can call it that is I was part of the crowd chanting they did at the stadium for Return of the King, things like "Grond Grond Grond" and "DEATH!" and a few other words.

Also in the commentary there was mention made of Viggo buying the horses he rode in the film and also buying a horse for Liv Tyler's riding stunt double - all true, and Jane still has the stallion he bought her. He lives the life of riley with her and her young family, and has bred some very beautiful and useful horses in the past few years. Here is a photo of them, taken a couple of months ago:

https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/71977_10151309567816721_422803872_n.jpg

She also looked after at least one of Viggo's horses, I know she had the stallion who played Brego, he almost died a couple of years ago and required urgent surgery, luckily Jane's husband is a vet (they met on the set of Rings, actually) and the horse was saved. I'm not sure if she still has him however. Jane also has the lead Ringwraith's horse from Fellowship (the horse's real name is Bob). I know loads of people who worked on the movies - it's probably true to say that everyone in NZ either worked on the movies, knows someone who did, or knows someone who knows someone... only two degrees of separation in any direction I would guess!

I have a few other anecdotes as well, but they'll keep (I should get back to work). Any plans to do a Hobbit commentary? (For the record, I thought it kind of sucked.)
