Good review Mike, nice flow. I might catch this in the theatre given your comment on the vfx, it was going to be one I grabbed on disc.

There is one serious, pressing question your review didn't address; is there a woman with three breasts?

I haven't seen the movie......... yet(!).
But, I can only presume from seeing the latest trailer that there is, in fact, a 3-breasted prostitute.
Also, Conan O'Brian did an interview with Kate Beckinsale recently, and she mentioned that her husband(the director) wanted her to play the role of the 3-breasted prostitute when her schedule looked like she wouldn't be able to commit to a more prominent role in the film. But, we know now, that her schedule worked out, and she is in the movie, but, not as said prostitute.

in my previous post here, I said Dianne Keaton played Martha Kent.
BIG MISTAKE !!!
Dianne Lane is playing Martha Kent.
Please forgive me.

It looks to me like they've gone back and totally rewritten the origin of Superman. Finally. Making him a newspaper reporter is probably the dumbest thing you could do. I haven't seen the new Spiderman flick, but everyone was annoyed that Jameson wasn't in it. Jameson was a newspaper editor. Today, these people have to run websites or TV stations or something. Spiderman shouldn't be taking photos for a newspaper, he should be shooting video for a TV station or something.

It'll be interesting to see where they go with Kent, as the city isn't even shown in this teaser.

The only thing I have never liked about superhero movies like this is the costumes. The costumes look like something that would be virtually impossible for some guy to make. I wouldn't dress up like this at all. I guess you have to, since that's what superheros do and we can't not do that or we'd be betraying the whole concept of superhero stuff...

But why not just have a dude in regular clothes be a superhero? Maybe do a thing where his outfit evolves. Starts off just jeans and a shirt, then his clothes get in the way or something (you ever hit the sound barrier with a T-shirt and jeans on? Embarassing...). Maybe they do that in this movie, tho. The suit kinda throws me out of the concept, which is supposedly a more modern, more realistic take.

>>> Note sure if you want to hear this, but, some of the casting for Man Of Steel is as follows:
Amy Adams = Lois Lane
Michael Shannon = General Zod
Laurence Fishburn = Perry White (so, the Daily Planet wil be in the movie!)
Kevin Costner = Johnathan Kent
Dianne Keaton = Martha Kent
Russell Crowe = Jor-El
and, you probably already know, Henry Cavill = Clark Kent/Superman

I'm taking from this teaser that Chris Nolan flexed his muscles and was able to keep SNyder from "300-ing" this movie.
I am cautiously optimistic. But, only because Chris Nolan is Producing.
He strikes me as someone who wouldn't put his name on a piece of crap.

Also, if anyone cares, there are 2 versions of this teaser, they both have the same visuals. The differences are that Crowe(as Jor-El) does voice-over on one, and Costner(as Johnathan Kent) does the other.

The reason that Shaw wanted a termination is that (a) it wasn't really hers as it was alien DNA (b) she conceived without informed consent (c) she had other shit to deal with at that time.

The reason why Engineers changed their mind (if that's what actually happened) had to be different to Shaw's. Our DNA 'matches' - whatever that means. The Engineers deliberately set events in motion. Are they crappy engineers? The engineer's response upon waking up was rather....err.... inarticulate. It doesn't appear Scott or Lindelhof actually care.

I couldn't agree with you more in regards to the points you make about her "child" being forced upon her(for lack of a better word) ........
However, the point I wanted to bring up was more the theme of the creators not being happy with their creations, and deciding to destroy them.
Now, I'm sure there are many who would make the point that I(among many others) am reading/seeing too much into this film. But, I think it's pretty interesting that it's there. I, personally, don't think it's much of a stretch to see this strange connection between Shaw and the Engineers.

here is something that I would love to discuss. Another theme of the movie is "creators destroying what they create."
In the movie, the Engineers are believed to have created life on numerous planets( Earth being one of them).
Also, Shaw cannot have children. Which is understandably hard for her to deal with; example: she tears up when she talks about this with Holloway and David.
Later, when she is impregnated with the alien life form, she decides that she does not want to bring this particular life into the world(obviously). The first thing she does after performing the c-section to remove the foreign body is try to kill it. Unsuccessfully. And later, she tries to kill it again.
I think alot could be said about the parallels in the film, in regards to the creators creating life... and once the life form is not what the "parents" wanted, the creators' first decision is to destroy said life form.
I would very much love to hear anyone else's ideas and theories about this.

> I believe Lucas has come out since this, and said this was all some weird joke.
Whatever. It's priceless. That's what this is !

And if anyone cares about my opinion on the Star Wars flicks, here goes:
I grew up with 4-6, loved them ! Was pumped for 1-3.
When I saw them in theaters, I was blindly in love with the fact that I had new Star Wars films. After the "honeymoon phase" wore off of me, I realized all of the things that I didn't like about them.
I started railing against 1-3, and against all of the "improvements" to 4-6.
It has been too many years, and I have spent too much energy hating these things, so, now I am at the point that I still don't like 1-3. I do not own them and I do not want to own them.

I considered buying the blu ray set of all 6 films(to get all of the bonus features). - but, when I found out he had made MORE changes, I cancelled my pre-order. He won't get anymore of my money.
I don't hate him. I just think that he continually makes poor decisions(for us), but, great decisions(for business).
The episodes 1-3 just simply exist now.

I just found out I am going to be a dad(!), and I've decided to share the original trilogy with my children when they are old enough to watch movies.

George Lucas, when you decide to re-release episodes 4-6 on blu ray, with bonus features(which, I know you will)..... I shall consider purchasing that. But, no more for you, until then.

Thanks for listing the special features. It's a pity the deleted scenes haven't been merged into the movie (e.g. LOTR EE). Some directors don't like to do this, some do.

I guarantee that this is the first of many different home video releases for this title. Keep in mind that Marvel is doing a 10 disc set with all of the films that led up to Avengers as well. You may get different bonus features on that as well.

The Goon movie really pisses me off. That video was posted on youtube two years ago. On that account, at least...

The shorter version of that trailer existed in 2007 or 2008. There was an article with screen shots in a magazine I read probably around 2005. I dunno if it's still in production or what. Everything I've seen of it has been in that bar sequence. The early shots were there, this trailer, the previous trailer, a parody PSA they did, some early test animation stuff... Nothing new has been said about it or released for it in a couple/three years. I think it's dead. I think it was never really alive.

I think The Goon is just David Fincher trolling everyone.

This sucks, considering that it looks really cool..... and we have no idea if this will ever see the light of day.
And the comics that this is based off of are completely unlike anything else.
I wish we could get some concrete info from someone about this project.
I too, would love to this project finished.
The good news is that Eric Powell(creator/author/artist of the comic series) has decided to continue the stories. A new trade comes out in June !

Ok, I think things have to be clarified here. I didn't say I did not want to see it happen. And I didn't say you said you wanted Cap to inherit Thor's powers. Plus, just going by the films, I prefer Captain America to Thor (both the films and the characters). smile

Now, I get that there are nods to the comics all over the film I just think that it would have been a bit much as the average Joe may not get it. Things like the Hulk spitting the bullet out is subtle enough that it doesn't matter it's from one of the comics. Going by what has already happened in the film series, Cap getting the Hammer may not have worked. I think it would have been pointless. The fact that Captain America is completely a good guy is in the movie already, we don't need to see the Hammer 'chose' him. That's just my opinion on it as a non-comic book reader.

It's all good. I'm not accusing anyone of saying one thing, or another. I just thought that I might have not been clear enough. But, as I stated, I think it would have been cool. That's all. Maybe in the next film.
No sweat.

Awesome.
And to be extra clear to anyone who misunderstood: I never wanted to see Cap. inherit Thor's powers. Just to showcase that he is not someone who craves power, or anything close to that. But, he is clearly someone who intends nothing but the best. He is absolutely a good guy. There is no evil in his heart.

How about an episode where you guys discuss film makers who continuously make really bad/poor performing films, but, continue to get work ! Or, the actors/actresses who are continuously in poor performing films, but, still show up in  movies.
Examples: Clive Owen( I really like), Mila Jovavich, John Cusack(I realll like).

But, something more along the lines of "the sword in the stone" ! You know ? Only those worthy can even pick the thing up !?!
Just to show more of Cap.'s character being "true of heart/pure" /etc.....
And because of this, maybe the other characters see that this is one of Steve Rogers' greatest strengths, just like Erskine saw in him.

I think it's the Hammer that chooses the person. It chose Thor when he proved himself, so it stays with Thor. For it to allow itself to be picked up by anyone else would see the powers exchange hands. Sounds silly, I know, but hey- superhero movie. Besides, if Cap could just pick it up, I'd see a lot of cries of 'bullshit' from people. Even if it is to show Cap's strength as a human being. It was established that only 'he who is worthy' can pick it up and that happened, why complicate it by having someone else pick it up?

My point exactly.

If you guys don't want to see that, I get it. And I understand. But, from a nerd's perspective, Cap.'s always been a favorite of mine. And to show something like that, is just one more feather in his hat.
I realize that the non-comics readers don't want to have tons of "inside" nerd nods thrown at them, only to fly right over their heads, but .....
When Hulk mentions trying to commit suicide, only to have "the big guy spit the bullet right back out." .... that's from a comic story arc.
There are tons of cool little nods. Maybe the hammer thing would be too much, but, maybe we can see something cool like that in the next Avengers films.

I seem to remember that this happened in one of the Avengers story lines.

What say you ?!

I say bad idea. In Thor they establish that whoever holds the hammer gets ultra superpowers so by picking it up Cap would have been transformed into Captain Asgard and Thor would've become a mortal.

You know what else? Tony Stark should have had a moment where he was forced to acknowledge Cap's awesomeness. "Everything that makes you special came out of a bottle"? We know that isn't true. Sure Iron Man put himself out there by accepting Cap's challenge of self-sacrifice, but it would have been greater if that moment was preceded by Iron Man seeing Cap take charge and put himself at risk, forcing him to say, "Now that's the hero my dad talked so much about."

Likewise, when Fury's assistant says Colson's trading cards were in his locker, Fury could have said, "They still are. These are mine."

I'm a shameless Cap fan.

>> I totally agree with you.
One thing my friend and I were hoping to see would be a situation where the assembled members are trying to pick up Mjollnir(just so the audience can see that "only someone worthy could wield this weapon") ....
and of course, Tony comes nowhere near close to picking it up.
But, some situation occurs and they have to respond before Cap. can even try, and as they're leaving the room Thor leaves the hammer(thinking no one else can pick it up) and Cap. just picks it up (soooooooo easily) and hands it to Thor, saying something along the lines of: "You don't want to leave this lying around."

You know ? You pretty much have everything you need, except for the food. The sodas and waters in the vending machines are only going to last so long. And you could kidnap the guy who parks his hot dog/hamburger wagon in front of the home improvement store. Live off of that food for a few weeks (maybe) ...
