Rewatched this, having not seen it since the 1995 cinema release.

I LIKE it! It's not superb, and the VFX mostly don't hold up, but in general, I'd watch it again. Robin Williams performs great, the kids too, even Kirsten Dunst performs really good. The story is exactly what you'd think, and I think it pays off quite nicely.

However, after checking out the cast for the spiritual successor, Zathura, I'm skipping that one.

I'm probably infamous at this point for pitching this to almost all large source material, but should they ever adapt the Silmarillion, I'm guessing a TV show would be the best fit.

Herc, you asshole. You don't open a post with "LAST WEEK, steam had a sale". You advertise the sale that's going on now, fool!

Anyhoo, I got so pissed off at Assassin's Creed Unity a couple of weeks ago, I decided to find out whether or not I skipped the wrong game(wrong in this case being AC4: Black Flag). To my surprise, I was indeed correct. AC4: Black Flag is tied with AC2 as the best game in the series. And it's hella fun!

Also, finally, in the wake of Dragon Age Inquisition, we picked up LittleBigPlanet 3 a little while ago. It's fun, but compared to the other two; a tad too hard. There's 3 new characters(Toggle, who can toggle between large and heavy, and small and light, Swoop, a bird, and finally, Oddsock, a wall-running dog-like thing). The learning curve for all three new characters is a bit steep, leaving you baffled, and unable to complete it on your own.

I did play a fair bit of Deus Ex way back in the day. Never got around to Invisible War, as it wasn't widely released in Norway, and the peer 2 peer networks back then didn't have quite the selection.
As for Human Revolution, I have it installed on my PS3, and did play an hour or two, before letting it go. I guess it's not my kind of game anymore.

I never got XCOM. As in, I never got bitten by the bug. I tried for an hour or so, just wasn't my thing.

I wound up playing Dragon age for a little over 100 hours in less than a month. Which is damn much, considering I have a full time job, and kids. I've no idea how I managed to cram it all in there, but I did, and I regret nothing. It's one of the best RPG's I've ever played, and I've started the game all over again, to play a different class, and as a more sinister character.

I also now hate AC Unity. It took me awhile to get to that point, but I almost can't stand it anymore. I got the Expansion/DLC "Dead Kings", and while I was playing about halfway through it, I realised I wasn't even having fun. I was just playing it because it was free, and I wanted some new gear/weapons. That's it.

However, upon playing it, I realised there was a slight chance I shouldn't have skipped AC4, and after looking at 5 reviews that all gave it 9.x/10, I bought it. It's downloading now, and I'm actually exited.

Anybody remember son of the suns?

To be fair, that comment was directed at a young Anakin Skywalker, who had never been to Coruscant before, nor had any knowledge about it, so it actually isn't redundant.

Edit: At least it was, if my memory isn't way, way off. It might be.

Was gonna post about this again, but then there's a thread for it already, albeit 4 years old.

To those who've forgotten, these guys are still going strong. They're now in the third act of Empire, and my god, it's still hilarious.

Yes. I've been struggling with the necessary label for an iron-age war drama set on an alien planet...dunno I'll figure it out after I've written the thing.

Maybe you're taking the wrong approach here.

Lord Of The Rings, Dragon Age and Final Fantasy are all works of fiction not set on Earth. Yet, they never claim it to be an alien world.

LotR is simply set in the world of Middle Earth. Is it Earth? Is it not earth? One can't be sure, but geographically, it isn't. It's a fantasy world in which men did not descend from apes, and there are other humanlike races around.

Dragon Age is set in the world of Thedas(which, fun fact, is just an abbreviation of THE Dragon Age Setting.), but it's never claimed anywhere that this is even our universe, or what galaxy it's set in. Just a fantasy world that is similar to our planet, and has dragons and magic and other humanlike races.

Final Fantasy is a bit more tricky, as each new game takes on a new setting, but they all have things in common. They're all set in fantasy worlds known as this or that, but never claim to be part of our universe. The all have varying degrees of Space and/or space travel using different technology to get there, but never in the course of now 14(numerical anyways) entries have anyone mentioned the Milky Way galaxy, or even Andromeda.

What I'm getting at is that your world doesn't need to be scientifically correct, nor does it have to be a Sci-Fi. It could simply be a fantasy novel set in a different world than ours.

Your world is a moon set around a gas giant, and that's fine. Reading ShadowDuelist's post, they make enough sense for me to buy the concept, even if he's just bullshitting us all. Not saying he is, but for all I know, he might be. He is, however, making a good enough case of it for me to buy it.

I don't think you should linger on Orbiting distances, Roche limit, arc minutes or planet shine. Instead, focus on getting the basics right: It's a moon orbiting a large gas giant. It's day cycles, measured by the sun, is X amount of hours(measured in earth hours, apparently), and as it's a moon, and tidally locked, one side has more direct sunlight, and longer nights, whereas the other side has constant heat emitting from the planet, and a much bluer(if that's the giant's color anyway) hue in the sky. The latter side also has more stable weather, as the day/night cycles aren't that different from each other, temperature-wise.

..And even that might be going too much into depth.

Take LotR, for instance: It's insinuated, in the films, that the Grey Havens, is simply a place that isn't middle earth. It's also insinuated that this is the realm of the dead, but never specifically explained. Do I care? No. It works, and that's enough for me. I'm sure the books flesh out the details, but having not read them, I don't know.

If you're writing a fantasy-like novel that doesn't have magic, write it as such. Don't pester the reader with techno-babble, or you might lose them fast. I know I'd have a hard time trying to grasp all the numbers and facts if they were to suddenly pop out all at once.

Have it be lore. Something that all the inhabitants know, but do a fair bit of explanation to the reader. Depends on your writing style, obviously. Is it first person, third person? Is there a narrator? If it's the latter, then sure, you could explain all in detail, but if it's the prior two, the characters probably know all of it, and unless your protagonist is new in town, he/she will too. Don't have someone take the time to explain it to him/her. Hell, even if he/she has a sudden case of amnesia, it's not like they'll suddenly think things on their planet work like on earth, and have to have it all explained again. I've met people who have long-term memory loss, but even they won't ask what the big, bright thing in the blue large field high above us is, and why it gives off heat.

The TL;DR version:

Don't get stuck on details. Figure out something that's theoretically possible, and stick with that.

I didn't have any hopes for this, as I'd never even heard of it. It's on Netfilx, and I saw a picture of Jim Carrey with long, blonde hair. That about does it for me, whenever I'm in the mood for something light-hearted, but the film is actually pretty good.
It's Steve Carell and Jim Carrey, so you kinda know what you're in for, but it surprised me on all accounts. I'd highly recommend it.

IMDb wrote:

A veteran Vegas magician tries to revive his career after his longtime partner quits, he gets fired from his casino act, and an edgy new "street magician" steals his thunder.

So if you don't really enjoy Steve Carell, except from "Dan in Real Life", but enjoy Jim Carrey's later work, Olivia Wilde and Steve Buscemi, This might be right up your alley.

**NOTE**
Watching the trailer after the fact, it doesn't really do the film justice.

If you're on a relatively tight budget, and the most of the ceremonies are during bright daytime, you could do a lot with the re-released GoPro Hero. It's going for $125(at GoPro.com), whereas Hero 4 Silver is $380. Add to that that the LCD isn't good for anything but power consumption.

When I had a GoPro earlier this year(which I sold because I didn't actually need one), I originally wanted an LCD screen for it, but all the places I attached it rendered a screen completely obsolete. Inaccessible and unseen.

Now, of course, for a reception, you'd want to go with Black Editions. The low light function of those babies is unrivaled, compared to the other models. Here's a quick review of just that:

Boter: My idea with the GoPros all over the place, is to literally place them everywhere. I mean, getting them in key locations to film the couple and their families is a given, but if you consider the reception as a party, it'd be pretty fun, at least for me, to see how everyone was doing. Even that twice removed distant relative dude that nobody recalls inviting. If everyone had a good time, I'd love to see just that.

That being said, I'm not getting married this decade. Or the next.

I think it's a great idea, one that I'd bring to the reception, too. Put GoPro's on all the tables, and attach them to various adults and children to get pretty much all the perspectives. Just remember to bring 128GB cards, and loads of batteries.

And a rich uncle, of course. That amount of GoPro's isn't cheap.

Well, I never cared much for the regular C&C or Red Alert, but Generals (Zero Hour)caught my attention. Still fun to play, and I'm still pretty good at it, too!

On a side note: testing Garry's Mod. I UNDERSTAND NOTHING!

I still play the occasional Lord Of The Rings - Battle For Middle Earth II : Rise of the Witch-King with my brother.
It runs on the same engine as Command & Conquer Generals, if you were ever into that. (I was. Actually, I should find my copy of that..)

As Expected, I got Dragon Age Inquisition, and I must say it's brilliant. It's kind of a mix of RPG's I've grown up with, in sense of play style, although I've never been a fan of that "MMO" fighting thing. As in abilities assigned to buttons or hotkeys. Those who know me, know I've been indoctrinated to Final Fantasy since I was a toddler, so I'm used to picking an attack or ability from a list. But it's not exactly a dealbreaker.

LittleBigPlanet 3 was also tucked under the tree, and although it's not getting as much playtime as DAI, it's pretty good too. If you've played the other two, it's a solid continuation, and if you've never played them, it's a good place to start.

I also now (finally) got Garry's Mod on steam, and my current username on steam is tomellingsen2 (or ddlocke@gmail.com), if you want to play some time.

(edit)
On a side note, I played GTA5 last year when it was released, and played the online mode for a solid 2 days before getting tired of it. I was waiting for heists, and never got them, and it sucked.
But now that they've released it for PS4, it's got First Person Mode, and heists are finally coming, so I'm thinking of picking that up again.

When I finally grow tired of Last Of Us, anyway, which is never. The only reason I haven't played it this holiday, is because apparently, PSN is down.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen plenty of anime films that I enjoyed, but then, I guess, there's the nature of the films being 100% serious, and none of that deforming shit, and/or slapstick.

Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Mononoke, Nausicaä, and even a verison of Arietty, which, incidentally, is also "adapted" by British TV, (Borrowers), featuring Stephen Fry and Christopher Eccleston.

I'll believe it when I hear it playing in my iTunes Library.

Not a second before.
