I had no idea who Orson Scott Card was until you said that and I looked him up. What a sad, vile, putrid human being he is.

Was this based on an internet search then? I'd be cautious of believing everything you read. I'm saddened that we're so quick to form judgements on people we've never met, which is all the more tragic given that we tend to latch onto a first impression we've borrowed from someone else (who often has an agenda) and that it's much harder to change this preconceived notion when we do read wider. Must we really in our minds make enemies of people we never knew existed and will likely never cross paths with? Can't we exercise restraint too in our rhetoric?

The internet's filled with so much vitriol, and it seems to me that most of it stems from people hating other people's hate.

You are so right and you make many good points here. I feel I must re-examine my thoughts on this issue.

My comment about him being a homophobic douche! saddens me to no end. Loved his books when I was young and when he went of the deep-end it was a sad time for me and my friends who liked his books. Maybe a little strong to call him that but that is how I feel.

However If you could show me where I went off the rails myself and where the others with agenda distorted his views I would be the happiest camper on this forum. Nothing would make me happier than having being fooled by the bad people on the internet who just wanted to hurt O.S.C.

Ehem... library's?
If you divide my membership fee to the books I read in a year we are talking about pennies per book.

Pretty cool and again kudos to you. And congrats on working on scenes with Charlize Theron. That must have been a perk smile

What software are you mostly working in?

p.s.
I think I saw your personal site few years back... maybe 2010? Were you active on CGSociety around 2009-2010?

Achar (best food ever with beer), sel roti (bread made from rice flour) and typical meat and beans dishes with a strong sauce.

My Jiu Jitsu coach was a special guest at an MMA event in England some years back, and during a break in between fights was interviewed in the ring.  He was going to tell a funny story about this Korean guy next to him who smelled awful.  He started by saying, "So I'm sitting next to this smelly Asian guy...."

He was immediately booed out of the cage.  Because in England, Asian means being from the Middle East, and a racist stereotype over there is that all people from the middle east do not bath.  He said the Yank equivalent of "So this loud colored fellow..."  Now, is he racist or a bad guy?  Of course not.  But he displayed a certain culutural ignorance for which he is ultimately responsible.  Anyone who has traveled internationally runs the risk of this.

Well to be fair. If we are talking about Eddie Bravo here then the guy literally has made an art form of putting his foot in his mouth.... literally.

Safe place! safe place! I thought you said this was a safe place!

Few more unpopular opinions:
* My favorite director is John Sayles. I've taken a lot of shit for that although I don't think this forums will give me any grief over that one.
* My all time favorite movie is Lone Star. It's the movie I would most like to have made myself.
* I think Matthew McConaughey is not a bad actor (But I'll admitt he has made his share of stinkers). I like Nick Cage for that matter too.
* My go-to-movies when I'm sick... Indiana Jones (Not unpopular), National Treasure, Sahara, Romancing The Stone and The Mummy.
* I like the The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.
* I like the Tales of the Gold Monkey.
* My favourite vfx commentary to a movie is the Volker Engel commentary to ID4.
* I liked both the Lost and BSG endings.

I don't like Roman Polanski... and I like people a little bit less when they confess love for him as filmmaker. I will not divorce the man from the artist. And I like the people who chose to work with him also a little bit less.

On the topic of strong female characters...

Jodie Foster kinda owns this category as Clarice Starling in Silence of the lambs.

Does  Erin Brockovich count?

In TV land there are few that jump into mind...

I kinda like The Good Wife where they juxtapose three strong female characters, Alicia, Diane and Kalinda (although they have pretty much driven Kalinda's character off the cliffs in this last season).

Clare Danes is doing interesting things with her character in Homeland. Deeply flawed dealing with hosts of mental issues but still an intelligent and strong character.

I always liked Tami Taylor in Friday Night Lights.

What do you think of Veronica Mars? It was a interesting take on Nancy Drew themed character.
