Re: DIF Community Project: DIF Road Trip!
I haven't even mentioned this thing to my wife. I'm quietly taking a day off tomorrow to film, and she never has to know...shhhhhhhhhh!!!!!11

see, that was my original plan too, but my days off are so convoluted, it might not be a choice.
Good luck being, sneaky
McDonalds people, this is the sort of parking arrangement I was thinking of. Or something along these lines.
Red dot.
We're fucking mental for even attempting this.
Just throwing that out there - we're shooting tomorrow.
Good man.

Target locked.
We have a go.
Heh. It wouldn't break the movie, but I'd prefer you didn't.
Helpful export settings, if you're using something to trim down your clips, or re-size them. This is for the use of Quicktime, you can put these settings into QT Pro (thirty bucks or so, it just unlocks other features in regular Quicktime, such as export) or After Effects, or Final Cut, or anything that writes out to Quicktime.
When you're ready to export something, set up your Quicktime settings thusly. (In QT Pro, this is available in an "Options" box when you click File -> Export.)
Use MPEG 4 Video, key frames automatic, restrict data rate to 3,500 kbits/sec. If you have a "compressor quality" slider, set it to high. Sound can be left uncompressed, or set to AAC 44.100 kHz Stereo, 128 kbps.
Remember, I'm only outputting the final at 720x480 or so, so if you have HD footage, you could halve the frame size to 960x540 and still give me more than enough. You might want to consider this if you have a lot of footage, just to save yourself time on exports and uploads. You can change the output resolution in the QT output dialog you'll already have open, by clicking "size."
If you're not going to trim anything (and you certainly don't have to if you don't want to), that's cool too, just toss the footage on the FTP.
Thanks guys! The more I see, the more confident I am that we've got a winner here. A weird, weird winner.
We had a great time filming this stuff in the city Yesterday. First we drove around getting through-the window-stuff and otherwise screwing around, to the tune of 10 gigs/30minutes. My takes add up to 4.3 gigs, and we had to quit because-- like the dumbass I am-- I forgot to grab the spare batteries for the borrowed T3i. Then we hit base camp and grabbed iJim's Panasonic rig to shoot his takes...I have no idea how much data he's got from that, but I handheld a little Sony handicam for BTS material, over 25 minutes and 3 gigs.
Most amazing note on the day:
Neither one of us ever farted in the car, in spite of the Qdoba luncheon.
PS Teague, not sure I can improve on my parts but it could be reshot...I was just starting to flow when the battery died.
PPS Jim is a helluva director...I can't say enough nice things. That's why I had to kill him...
Think we could get a "Special Thanks" list in the video description? I bet all of us have friends helping us out that will otherwise get no recognition.
Yep.
Got Dave, Dodgson, Jim, Drew, C-Spin, and Vidina in so far. The last 36 hours have been really exciting.
Hey Brent Spiner has submitted stuff? Neat!
Wow, James Cameron, Brent Spiner. This project is really taking off.
Just wait for Peter Jackson to submitt 48fps stuff. In 3D.
Things I have learned about myself from doing this project....
I am not the man I thought I was
I do not know how long ten seconds is
I do not know what "silence" means
I cannot tell if the image is in focus if I'm shooting myself
I have not absorbed as much of Alan Rickman's performances as I'd hoped

True of all of us, I assume.
Footage has been encoded per Teague's suggestions, and uploaded to the server. The original HD iPhone 4S footage is available if required. Can't wait to see how all this comes together.
Did my shooting today. I think I'm going to win the award for most takes. I got out of the car in three different locations.
I love this guy.
Sounds like fun.
1. Loud and medium speed. I can go fast but it muddles
2. Canadian
3. I pretty much don't hate anything
4.My limitation is I drive a cavalier
5. Nope
6. John Carpenters the Thing
Getting this done Sunday morning. Friend I enlisted to shoot was recently in the camera department for a sequel to a very lens-flarey movie. Will try to keep flares to a minimum. At least I don't have any anamorphic lenses.
