I disappear for a year and you have a new format and a lot of new topic-specific-episodes...
well, I guess I might as well reintroduce myself around here.

Nothing much to say, Milton from Venezuela.  I love movies, I keep a little media collection of the movies I like and/or find particularly interesting and your show/podcast/audio-thingie gives me an opportunity to re-watch some of my favorite movies and my not so favorite and enjoy them in a whole new light

Thank you for that.

Hi, I'm Sean! Or jakezing/Jake, or Mikal/Mikalos/Mikalosa, really it depends on what website I'm on and none of those names mean absolutely anything, the first being the name i typed for Gamefaqs back in 2005 and Mikalos just being the string of letters i typed for my username change in 2009.

I'm 19, A history Major (yay waste of time!) and Found Down in Front through the Tvtropes Article on "Alternate DVD Commentary" about... 2 months ago. My worst insjury was... not a clue, i don't really get any injuries.

... My interest in films is academic and enjoyment, and has been somewhat influenced after spending 3 years listening to The -former- Tipping Forties, a Lets Play/film group from Arizona on the Something Awful LP subforum.  My Favorite movie i usually give is New Hope because of it and star wars general influence on me and my creativity style. (And because i;m lazy and have never really thought about "whats my favorite movie")

Re: The New Introduction Thread

Hi folks - My name is Barry Ingram and I am from down in the Louisiana bayou here in Plaquemine.  I'm a lifelong geek/dork/nerd.

I pay the mortgage by gainful employment by the State of Louisiana as an attorney.  My first and best love is probably all things Star Trek, although I like lots of other wide-ranging stuff as well, but mostly I read and watch science fiction related things.  Probably the geekiest thing I do is I made a Klingon uniform and headpiece and go to conventions (when I can afford them).  I've been lucky enough to hang out, drink bloodwine, and sing Klingon songs with the actors that play Gowron and Martok, and Vaughn Armstrong, who played Korris, the first Klingon in TNG.  There's a group of us in Louisiana & Texas that do the Klingon stuff, and we try to get together as often as we can to drink and do "combat" with padded & neutered Klingon weapons (bat'leth, mek'leth & dak'tagh).  It's a lot of fun.

I found DIF through another of my favorite podcasts, "Geek Fights".  One of your panelists was on it and plugged DIF.  Checked it out, and I think you guys are great.  I do love the "inside baseball" aspect by having folks that are in the film industry give us a different perspective on the films.

Probably, my worst injury was an ankle sprain/strain when I stepped wrong on second base while umpiring a high school baseball game.  I used the clinic-issued crutches to get to my car and said "fuck this" and limped for the next few days until it healed.

Pizza-  New York Style crust, most anything on top, but partial to onions and mushrooms.

Sorry, no sister, but I can be persuaded to dress like the Doctor's companion of your choice for the right incentive.

I really enjoy the show you guys put on.  Keep up the good work!

Qa'pla!

Barry Ingram

Re: The New Introduction Thread

Hi, I'm Ellbey. I'm Bathilda's sister. Michelle Pfeiffer is our cousin!

I like to talk about movies while watching movies. Now that Bathilda and I don't live together I've had to find other people to put up with my commentary during movies. Thankfully I have an accommodating circle of film nerd friends, but even they have limits for story dissection. And now I'm here.

I'm also a spec screenwriter, but for kicks I make wedding invitations and cry over why two hues of gold aren't matching while listening to Enrique Iglesias' "I can be your hero baby" ... OH Wait, pretty sure I do that to pay rent.

Glad to be officially registered!

P.S. In high school, my sis sewed us matching jedi costumes for Halloween. We still have them.

Re: The New Introduction Thread

I've been a Down In Front fan for almost a year now, so I guess it's time to drop by and say hello.

My name is Marty (not McFly, but don't call me "chicken"  tongue  ) and I'm a geek from Poland (yup, you've got listeners as far as Poland). I work in computers, I enjoy sci-fi/fantasy and I still wonder why "The Phantom Menace" sucked so much (I know, it's been 13 years... but somehow I can't get over it  big_smile  ).

I first discovered DIF through Zarban's site (or was it through TV Tropes? I'm not absolutely sure...) and it's been my favorite alternate commentary podcast since. DIF introduced me to "The Princess Bride", "The Fountain", "Shaun of the Dead" and some other great movies that I probably would have missed otherwise.

My worst injury was... Well, my cat scratched me countless times when I was a kid.

We've got dozens of kinds of indigenous mushrooms here in Poland (some of them poisonous), so we can make every pizza unique. You Americans don't even know what you're missing  smile

Re: The New Introduction Thread

Well, I'm about two years too late with this, as I joined back in the winter of 2010, but I only just bothered to look at this thread and realize what it was for, and I haven't posted on these forums too much, so...better late than never.

I've been listening to DiF since 2010, when I was fourteen. My initial discovery of the podcast was due to its involvement in the Lightsaber Choreography Competition; I was watching some of the entries and saw that they had commentaries. Curious, I decided to watch one. Then I saw that Dorkman was involved. Full stop. Dorkman? As in THE Dorkman? The one who made the Youtube short film I have watched dozens of times and shown to family and friends? I had to check this out, and decided to start at the beginning, with the commentary on The Phantom Menace. Less than ten minutes in, I was hooked.

Since then, the guys have indeed become four "friends in my head". I have spent countless hours listening and re-listening to episodes, drawing odd looks from family members as I burst into snorts of laughter. Finding the podcast was a huge turning point in my life; you guys were the ones who first encouraged me to think critically about the storytelling of the movies I was watching (and I can think of no better introduction to critical thinking than listening to you guys lay utter waste to the prequels). While I have definitely become more cynical since my discovery of the show, I don't think that's a bad thing. Thanks so much to you guys for what you've taught me and all the laughs you've given me; it means a lot.

Now, as to my own interests: my first and greatest love is reading, but film has been a huge part of my life ever since I was introduced to the original Star Wars trilogy by my parents at the age of eight. Seeing Star Wars remains the defining moment of my life, one that changed everything; Star Wars led to other sci-fi led to fantasy led to nerdiness led to looking up lightsaber duels on YouTube led to DiF.

I'll leave you guys with these three Top 10 lists so you can explore my tastes in entertainment. Try not to be too harsh. tongue
