Re: Great graph.

I question their data smile Almost all animation were shorts, so are probably counted twice. No shorts are shown in theaters, so I'm not sure what the hell the bottom of the graph is actually counting for the past 40 years. And porn since the 80's is all direct to video. Context, we need context!

Re: Great graph.

Not to mention that the porn area should be significant right back to the early days.

YOU CAN"T FOOL ME, EADWEARD MUYBRIDGE. I KNOW DIRTY MOVIES WHEN I SEE THEM.

Re: Great graph.

I don't think they're including amateur films, Zarban. Didn't obscenity laws basically prohibit public exhibition of porn? I'm assuming this graph is looking at theaters. But I don't know.

EDIT: Though I have no idea what the social mores regarding porn were in, say, France circa 1935. So the representation of porn could be much higher in places that weren't America. I need more information on the study.

I'm often related to as IMDb. These things happen.

Re: Great graph.

Also, short is a form, not a genre. There are short comedies, short documentaries, and short porn films. Percentages are also a problematic way to show this data, since an expansion of one type in this chart implies a contraction in another, which may or may not be the case, we simply don't know.

It's the same with animation, although in the US most animation has been limited in genre.
