Re: The New Introduction Thread

Hey folks, my name's Luke, and I'm sort of ashamed that I'm only joining the forum now, seeing as I've been listening to DIF since 2011.

The show has really helped me look at movies differently, and learn what might be bothering me specifically and why in a movie. I honestly think I've learned more from Down in Front and Half in the Bag about films and filmmaking than anywhere else.

There's not much to say about me, so I'll just tell you that my three favorite films are The Big Lebowski, Ghostbusters, and The Blues Brothers.

Welcome guys!

PorridgeGun, your list of favorite films includes The Thin Red Line and Mr. Baseball, and the list of TV shows includes Twin Peaks and Jackass. For this, you are already awesome. That is all.

(Also, your list of TV shows makes me long for a show that combines Breaking Bad and Black Adder. It would be cerebral show that follows a long line of British meth cooks in their misadventures through the ages. With a laugh track.)

Uhhhh... I'm just gonna go find a cash machine.

(Glad to be here! I'm a huge Lebowski fan, I've even been to a few Lebowski fests here on the East Coast!)

Lebowski lovers of the world—unite!

(This is the part where I admit that, when I joined the DiF forum, there were about 1.5 seconds there during which I considered taking on the username "Karl Hungus." Instead I used my actual name... which doesn't have any of that porno pizzazz.)

Thanks all for being welcoming. Sorry I didn't check back too soon, adulthood sucks on occasion.

lol, Mr. Baseball is the last film I expected to find a fellow fan. I watched it again recently, and it's still funnier and more charming than most comedies made nowadays... albeit a totally predictable fish out of water, culture clash sports movie. Tom Selleck never got to be Indy, but he still has a few underrated flicks to his name, including An Innocent Man and Quigley Down Under.

Thanks.

Hello World

As you can see, I'm Michael. I'm a Computer Science student at the University of Colorado Boulder--in fact, as of yesterday I'm a Masters student  big_smile . I have taken a couple of film classes, so I'm already more of a film snob than 90% of people I know IRL.

Been listening to DIF since Confused Matthew brought up the Intermission on Film Criticism where he was mentioned, and now I have finally given in to the demands to join the forum--just in time for the show to be renamed.

Confused Matthew was super cool about that whole thing, everyone over here was properly impressed by how well he took a bunch of dudes on the internet chastising him.  tongue

big_smile We're neighbors! And congrats on the masters! If you go to Boulder Startup Week mayhaps I'll see you in person.

And welcome to the forum!

Re: The New Introduction Thread

Hello, you can call me Maajika. I prefer not to use my first name on the internet so there.

I like anime, video games, and movies. However, I tend to find that any of the three combined do not pan out so well.

I joined the forum because I love the Down In Front crew and because I wanted to have a hand in helping with the new title. I'll have to see what else I can do now! This is the first forum I've ever signed up for so...yep.

I know this is more of a movie forum, but video games are basically interactive movies. So why not check out my Let's Play channel?

Re: The New Introduction Thread

Ok I'm new, so quick introduction:

I'm Kate, I live in New Zealand (not a hobbit but I do have a handful of Lord of the Rings anecdotes), I have a BA in English (hah!) and Media Studies (read: film/tv) and also write YA novels in my spare time (what I have of it!).

I actually don't know how I ended up here, but I started out listening to your Serenity commentary and loved it, and have kept listening and working my way through most commentaries and intermissions since. (Makes tedious tasks at work much more interesting to have friends in my head.)  I also listened to your Twilight commentary really early on and thought it was great, it pulled apart what was so wrong with the story without being completely negative (though I have no idea how/why anyone finds Robert Pattinson attractive, totally agree they could've cast a potato and girls would've still swooned because they were totally brainwashed into believing Edward = gorgeous. I worked at a summer camp in NH for a few summers and used to host 'critical readings' of Twilight, by reading out chapters and re-enacting them with the help of rag dolls we made in Arts & Crafts - almost as charismatic as the movie's stars).

What else... - I love all things created by Joss (wait, except Dollhouse, I never really got that one); the last movies I saw were Star Trek Into Darkness (enjoyed it) and Iron Man 3 (hated it with a passion).

And I'm at work right now so I should go do work things.

Hi Shiny, welcome to the board. It's nice to have more people from our little corner of the planet here, but let's call a moratorium on sheep jokes.

Unles they're sheep jokes about Tasmanians. They're still fair game.

Re: The New Introduction Thread

I actually met a guy just last weekend who lives in Tasmania.   It was sort of surreal - like meeting someone from Narnia.  Or the moon.
