Re: Doctor Who is awesome, yeah?

I wasn't all too impressed myself, probably count it as my least favourite of Matt Smith's run.

Owen, you are a mad man. Great episode.

And at the very least, better than fucking Let's Kill Hitler for gods sake.

"Rings of Akhenaten" was a little bombastic, but I liked it quite a bit. I was taken aback to hear Radio Free Skaro was 2:1 against.

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

Rings of Akhaten.

Also, episode was alright. Reminded me of "Fires of Pompeii" and "The Satan Pit" at once.

It was pretty cool. The climax owes much to Smith's amazing acting.

This.

Matt Smith has just been impressing the hell out of me with every episode. And JLC has that amazing Kaylee quality of "I will buy into anything if she believes it". So the 2 of them together are just, wow.

But then again, I do go weak knee'd anytime they start playing with how truly dark and tortured the Doctor is beneath everything. So that probably helped as well.

I loved the shit out of 'Cold War'.

Well that was freaking awesome.

It was alright. Much better pacing than last week's. I thought that the Cold War subtext was a little heavy-handed at times, but overall it worked.

I really liked David Warner in the episode, it was great to see him again.

A small goof: the proper translation of "meters" into Russian is "метры", not "метерс" (the latter is just a transliteration into Cyrillic).

EDIT: Oh, it's a trope.

I got a real William Hartnell vibe from David Warner's character. I was half expecting some sort of timey wimey reveal.

Re: Doctor Who is awesome, yeah?

David Warner played an alternate Third Doctor in a Big Finish Audio called 'Sympathy For The Devil' with a young actor named Tennant.

He also played Jack The Ripper and stole H.G. Welles time machine in 'Time After Time' and along with Bill Nighy was one of the names thrown about for an older Doctor. Russell T Davies said in a radio interview something along the lines of "The show has so much more action if we'd gone with an older Doctor I'd have killed David Warner with all the running"

Oh and this one time he was president of the klingons...

Tonight's episode was great. There were some moments that actually made me jump. I love the interplay between Clara and the TARDIS. Such a great, fresh dynamic for the show to introduce.

"Hide" was pretty good.
Although, I was expecting to hear a bit more about Clara than revealed.

Looking forward to next week indeed.

Gooooooood episode. Hooboy.

Next week looks pretty freaking awesome too.

Loving this season!!

Re: Doctor Who is awesome, yeah?

This season? Define THIS SEASON.

1. Asylum of the Daleks: Not bad, not great.
2. Dinosaurs on a spaceship: uhm...
3. A Town called Mercy: Yeah, that was about as good as any spaghetti western. With aliens.
4. The Power of Three: Not nearly as good as I thought it would be. Rather boring, really.
5. The Angels Take Manhattan: ENOUGH WITH THAT DAMN RIVER SONG ALREADY! But yeah, heartbreaking end.
- The Snowmen: Actually quite good, I'll give you that one.
6. Bells of St. John: Clever title. Saw it coming. Not a good episode. Just sets up Clara as a clever girl without her being actually clever.
7. The Rings of Akhaten: Great end speech. Horrible episode, really. I know I said I enjoyed it, but the plot holes just keep getting to me.
8. Cold War: Fun seeing Ice Warriors, not so much fun else.
9. Hide: Really damn good.

In short: not the weakest season yet(season 6, sans The Doctor's Wife) was horrible, but they've got a lot to do to make it good.

Also, fire Smith.

Just cause you don't agree with me is no reason to get hostile. Also this season = everything that happened after the show wasn't on the air for like 6 months and then everything changed...so you know, how a season is usually defined, so 6-9

Wow, Tomahawk, really? BDA says he as in him personally is loving the season, your post was kind of unnecessary as he wasn't speaking for you. And Matt Smith is bloody brilliant as the Doctor. My opinion, obviously.

Also, BDA, the eps that are showing right now are still part of series/season 7 smile

Never meant to be hostile, folks, relax.
I'm just not happy with the way Smith and Moffat are running things. Never quite have been.

BDA: you won't get this one. Series 7 is from 1-13, not 6-13 smile

Doc: I just don't like his goofy, sometimes too stupid Doctor. I'll agree he does a stellar performance, but the character doesn't do it for me with him behind it.

Also, Doctor Who is a show about change - It's time to change the Doctor.

Re: Doctor Who is awesome, yeah?

I think I've mentioned this before, but I find the Moffat/Smith run to be much more satisfying than the Davies/Tennant run. Honestly, a lot of Tennant's episodes are kinda hard to watch now. They're just so cheesy and hard to take seriously. I've never had that issue with Smith.

I haven't really weighed in here, since haven't been able to get in to Smith as much as Eccelston or Tennant, but despite my desire for a happy ending, DW is one of the few times that I enjoy the darker tone. So, having Eccelston being more serious and Tennant becoming more serious worked for me.

Besides, we've already established that Tom is crazy but harmless wink

God loves you!

Alright then fucking fine then. Everything after what should have been called a season change has been awesome. Goddammit.
