Comp is really solid, great cinematography.

I just noticed two pulsating glowing Avatar thingies exactly in sync, the one at the top left corner and the one at the bottom right. No idea what these are so I may be talking out of my ass and they're supposed to be in sync, but just in case, thought I should say it.

Glad you're interested, guys. I love, love, love improv and VA especially like this, and I so badly wish I was capable of it.

I just ended a run of the full streams (almost 13 hours, holy cow) and I'm so impressed by Wayne managing to maintain character even when his friends throw so incredibly funny stupid shit at him. Such a great project.

To say I'm haven't been overworked these past few weeks would be a euphemism, so I'm using the time I have to work for myself. Catching up on photography, that kind of stuff.

One thing I've been meaning to spend time on was matte painting. It's one of these fields I haven't really worked in since VFX school and I wanted to reconnect with it. Recently I've felt this could be a form of expression that could complement my photography, and I've been particularly inspired by some artists I follow on Instagram. Also at some point I stumbled upon the Diablo IV announcement cinematic trailer and it drove me absolutely crazy.

I think I just want to explore my creativity and expand its boundaries, really.

Anyway, after a quick exercise using only stock images I could find on the server at work, I tried my hand at something more developed. The end result really is somewhere between matte painting and artwork but that's where I want to be.

I'm not happy with everything (certainly not the stones on the ground) but it allowed me to spend time dealing with clouds and create an atmosphere. My main reference was the landing scene in Prometheus and it shows.

While I feel I'm getting closer to a form of expression, I only take this as an exercise, so I'm happy with it and what it's taught me.

Of course this thread is open for anyone who wishes to share their artwork shenanigans. Fuck yeah, make stuff!

Late to the game again, and I'm 95% confident BDA must know about this, but last year, a Twitch streamer called WayneRadioTV directed a series called Half-Life VR but the AI is Self-Aware. Basically, the objective was to stream a playthrough of a version of Half-Life in virtual reality with experimental self-aware AI. Of course, it was all staged, and said AI was controlled by friends of Wayne.

The strength of the series, however, is that while they had set up some basic narrative guidelines, it was improv throughout. The end result is absolutely hilarious and the performances are amazing, especially that of Wayne's who almost never breaks character, playing the straight man trying to hold everything together. and maintaining the AI joke until the very end (even though it was absolutely obvious the characters were actors). The series actually ends up building a full story entirely based on the improv from everyone. It's an impressive feat and an incredibly entertaining moment.

Wayne edited the streams down to their best and most cohesive parts. The streams in themselves are great but long, and of course contain out of character moments, either when Wayne has to manage the livestream or when things go wrong or there's evidence we're not actually in Half-Life, but in Garry's Mod (as it was needed for the staging of the series - they actually had a friend operating invisibly as stage director, spawning objects, preparing scenes on the fly).

Unlike most projects I've seen before in the storm photography world, this one is pure expression, an actual film telling an unspoken story, a vision of inspiration. The music, direction and image grading take us on a higher level. I've always wanted to bring to life my vision of storms but for the time being, this is as close as it gets.

Prelude is only a glimpse of what its author, a fellow french storm chaser, is undertaking: a feature-length film. I'm eager to see it come to fruition.

I'm afraid I've fallen down an endless Marc Rebillet pit. This guy is INSANELY talented.

Goddammit, I started this post saying I'll write a long post when I have the time for it, then I proceeded to write a long post. I'll get back to it. Great words, Tom. I think all of us here can write about every period of their life just by talking about SW.

Yeah, you pretty much only need your hands, a bit of wax and a piece of sandpaper.

So as I was saying in the chat, a friend of mine gave me the best gift ever: a hurdy gurdy model.

Beautifully made, cleverly designed, sounds... kinda like a wasp with a bad cold and rusty joints.

I'm pretty sure you could get a better result with better aligned mechanisms, better greasing (the instructions have you wax some parts with a candlestick, but it's not terribly effective), and better strings. I have half a mind to replace the strings with horsehair strings, but this thing is more like a cool model to display on your shelf than a proper instrument.

I did put some cotton around the strings over the wheel, just like an actual hurdy gurdy. Reduces the buzzing, but also lowers the volume.

In any case, a really fun build, and a gorgeous object.

This Indonesian guy built his own DIY drumkit and plays complicated pieces flawlessly with it. The Dance of Eternity is one of Dream Theater's most intricate songs with numerous time signature changes, I've been working on it a bit mysekf but I've got a very long way to go. This dude looks almost bored playing it.

Anyway, he's so good, someone on the Internet launched a crowdfunding campaign to get him a proper drumkit. The campaign didn't work, but Mike Portnoy, the original drummer from Dream Theater, received hundreds and hundreds of message about this man and decided to buy him a drumkit through his sponsors. This is really cool.

Life has taught me to be wary of being overly optimistic, but in this case I just don't see why I shouldn't. Biden is probably not gonna be a whole revolution but he's gonna cancel most of what Trump has done and at this stage I think you guys will take even only this gladly.

Teague and Alice probably know this dude already but he doesn't have a lot of subscribers, which is a shame because he's GOOD. Lots of fun songs on his channel, and also an old performance of Nightmare Before Christmas' Jack's Lament that's really well done.

Well there's one film I don't think I ever have to watch.

I think this world is wearing me out. The older I get, the less tolerance I have with violence and visual horror in movies. I'm seeing enough of that shit everyday, you know?

Are we all hot girls now? I think we're all hot girls now. This community rocks.
