The live chats are fun in the sense that they're a new episode and you can sort of participate. My problem is i type slow and sometimes the chat is about everything except the movie, so i'll just hide the chat and watch the movie, while listening.

I just listened to part of the live Tron live chat and some great points were made. I agree with Eddie when he says part of its appeal is that it's unique in spite of all its flaws. The vfx were done that way because they had no choice. Looking forward to hearing the whole thing.

Finally saw the first 3 eps and liked how they took their time in the pilot. Nice looking show. Man, the main dude's wife hooked up with his partner quick! She's got needs, i guess.

I went 'yuck' when they left the asshole handcuffed on the roof, if you're gonna do stuff like that you might as well join the zombies cause it's the end of civilisation (damn you, US english spell-checker!). But at least it became a thing and they went back for him.

I'm very late with the Stripes quotes but to this day i still use "I'm pacing myself" and "He's eying that rug". DIF should definitely do it.

I didn't like the movie but loved the FX. As soon as Hollywood starts putting as much effort into the stories and scripts as Pixar does we'll be all set.

Enjoyed the commentary. I usually don't like a lot of crosstalk but you can't help but smile when Jake points out all the stuff he loves. Makes me see the movie in a new light as i'm watching along.

There's an 1980 thing called Agency (not the fine film directed by Trey) with Lee Majors and Robert Mitchum. Filmed in Montreal pretending to be New York. Majors is great in it and makes me wish he did more movies back then. One of my favorite so-bad-it's-good movies.

One of the original creators of SBY fell off a boat named Yamato a couple of weeks ago and died. A sad way to go.

I just watched this thing and loved it. I'd heard of it but thought it just showed landmarks around LA that appeared in movies. It does but is much more interesting than just that would've been. It's surprisingly long at 2hrs49min but it isn't too long.

It's almost all clips from movies. To me the narrator, who reads the filmmaker's words but is an actor, sounds a little like Mr Plinkett but i got used to it. The first hour is fast paced then later spends more time on aspects of certain movies. The tone is straightforward in the beginning, sometimes humourous in the middle (the Dragnet stuff is really funny) and serious at the end.

I read up a little and it turns out it was never released theatrically or on video because he couldn't get permission to use all the clips! It made me want to check out about 15 movies i've never seen.

We now return you to you regularly scheduled programming.

Ha. Great combo. I've never seen all of Kane but i will now.

It's a shame DIF forum members aren't more concentrated geographically because what we need to do is get together, have a couple of beers, watch the films in perfect sync with DIF HQ, have a webcam, have 1 mic, and be the 5th friend in your head offering unobtrusive, lucid comments. And burp noises.

Ooo, i can't wait to see Metropolis. I still have a soft spot for the Giorgio Moroder version with colour tinting and pop songs.

Apple wants it to be a bag of hurt for some reason. They were on the bluray 'side' buring the bluray vs hd-dvd war so i don't get why they've decided to not support bluray movie playback. Licensing's too expensive? Maybe it's just plain more profitable for them to get you to watch itunes/appleTV streaming instead. Anyway, you might need to boot into windoze for now.

At least you didn't spend $1200 on a 1GB hard drive back in '94 like me.

Avatar on bluray/big TV definitely works for me.

Shit, that netflix.ca free trial was looking good there for a minute.

And no Trey-autographed hard copy, either. *sadness*

An excuse to finally watch Reservoir Dogs. I've seen bits and obviously heard how good it was but i couldn't get passed the opening diner scene. QT isn't my favorite actor in the world.

I didn't care about him either, but not because Worthington wasn't a good actor. His character was a 'dumb guy' - my term for an everyman - which is fine but unlike Charlie Sheen in Platoon or Sylvester Stallone in Rocky, he was morally kind of a douchebag (first he jumps at the chance to help fuck over the blue people) and easily manipulated (then he goes native).

And btw i'm kind of sick of strong female characters as... a thing. It was a welcome change in Alien and The Terminator but that was 30yrs ago. When i read about praise for James Cameron's strong women (i'm not talking about the posts here, and i'm not trying to diss the guy) i think that it's because he can't think of a new gimmick. How about a really well written movie, aimed at an intelligent audience about a spaceship crew where men and women work together like a team of smart, well-oiled professionals. Wait, that didn't come out right...

I was amazed to read that he acted in movies from 1929-1987. That a hell of a stretch.

A lot of parents of famous people in this movie; in addition to the ones pointed out in the commentary there's Crispin Glover's dad - Jake's partner without the glasses, and Laura Dern's mom - the fake Mrs Mulwray broad, pardon the language.

The sequel's worth watching. It isn't quite as good but it was obviously a labour of love for Nicholson and it's interesting to see how the daughter turned out (yes she's a bit screwed up) and it has a couple of great scenes. It has one of the best voice overs of all time ("Time changes things...", what a great voice Nicholson has) and a long scene when Jake says "Let me explain something to you" while walking around lighting a cigarette and fixing a drink. And the late '40s start of people suing the shit out of everyone.

Nice to see you doing this kind of movie, more please.

I hope he still cares about attention to detail. Watching the docos on Blade Runner, he's obsessive; but on the American Gangster commentary he praises the fake snow that looks... ok, and is very easy and quick to use. So i agree with Matt, i hope he still has the artistic traits that made Alien and Blade Runner classics.

I threw it into 'other', i thought more than 6 choices was too much. Are those your picks?

I'm surprised almost everybody picked Alien, it's my favorite (by a nose over Blade Runner, Black Rain) but where are all the Gladiator and Blackhawk Down fans.
