I know we have a bunch of movie fans here, and a lot of Star Wars fans, so I'm curious what everybody thinks about Galaxy's Edge, opening at Disneyland this weekend and Walt Disney World later this year.

I will ask to avoid spoilers where we can, because I'm trying to go in spoiler-free and I live near Walt Disney World, but suffice it to say, I'm very excited. Both attractions sound really incredible, and I love the idea of free-roaming droids and characters. Pretty sure I'm going to skip the $200 build-your-own lightsaber, but the cantina sounds fun. And I did peek at the special bottles for Coke and Sprite inside the land.

I also do know there's a full-size replica of the Millennium Falcon, and blue milk. The dedication was last night for Disneyland, and you can check it out on YouTube if you so desire.

Oh good. Thanks Teague, now I can go download it and listen to it in arrears during my "listen to DiF in order" listen-through.

-Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom is the second story of a vast "building."

-The Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom uses an oil drilling platform as its skeleton. Disney Imagineering needed something that could withstand hurricane force winds, but also house a theater inside.

-The line in Fast and the Furious "Granny shiftin' not double clutchin' like you should" is beyond incorrect; double-clutching is a slower way of shifting and often used in vehicles with unsynchronized gearboxes, where you have to shift into neutral in between gears to get the drive-gear synchronized at the same speed as the rest of the transmission. The synchronized gearbox was introduced in the 1950s by Porsche.

-The original Porsche was a tractor.

-So were the original Lamborghinis.

I have Saniss' phone number. I called him. He didn't answer "Ahoy hoy".

That's about as statistically relevant as it gets.

I mean, I work for a company that makes SIP telephony software. I could program it to call him 6 times a minute for... say... 100,000 calls? I'll classify it as a load-test smile

A common mnemonic to remember what happens in a 4-stroke engine (the type in most cars today) is "suck, squish, bang, blow."

Suck - open intake valves, pull in oxygen and fuel mixture
Squish - close valves, use cylinder to compress air/fuel mixture
Bang - ignite the mixture using a spark plug, causing an explosion that pushes the cylinder, and thus, the crank
Blow - open exhaust valves, use cylinder compression cycle to push exhaust gasses out

EPCOT was supposed to be a city, not a theme park.

A few months ago, I did a thing.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bh4QLTpAoSj/

I post here because there are a few people I know, have spoken to, met, or just remember from the old NP2k forums, some people with whom I talk on Twitter, and also just the fact that Friends In Your Head is something that Morgan and I bonded over. Morgan, for those who don't know, drew the logo that you see on the iTunes podcasts (she actually said each blue-man is a panelist; I believe Dorkman is the one flipping the TV off but she knows for certain), and anytime we have a road trip anywhere for more than an hour, we put on a commentary or a Bake Off. So this forum, as a result, has a small part in our relationship, but a part nonetheless.

Also, sometimes it's nice to see that there are still good things happening in the world.

Ah, this would explain why I haven't been able to download any episodes after getting a new phone to continue my beginning-to-end listen of DIF. Thanks for the explanation, Teague! I'll await an update that the audio files are back up for iTunes smile

Cantina in Florida.

Amazing. I still think my favorite from this season is Ghostbusters vs. Mythbusters (just bought it on iTunes, so worth it) but those season finales always rock. Love this ERB.

Well then, lots of time since my last post. Been doing a lot of photography, but not posting shots as often as I used to. I've been concerned about the quality of my shots much more than the quantity.

That being said, here are some of my recent favorites. I've been getting into star trails photography recently. Long, frustrating in post, but so worth it. Questions? Ask 'em! Comments are welcome. EXIF data is located on the Flickr page, links are below the shot. So are higher resolutions.

Listening to the commentary for The Iron Giant again reminded me that, in the chat, I brought up the fact that Disney has been producing new Mickey Mouse short animated films and posting them to YouTube. This was in response to Trey saying that kids no longer knew Mickey Mouse from his short films. While I concede the point that a generation certainly does not know, it looks like kids growing up today won't have to worry about that.

I highly recommend starting at the beginning, and enjoying the heck out of the new shorts. It's a slightly new style, and it's nice to see that Disney isn't treating it's icon like a porcelain doll; there are times Mickey gets well and truly beat and bent out of shape in these shorts! It's also really nice that when doing a short in/for another country (France, Japan, et cetera) the entire short is recorded natively in that language. However, you don't even need to understand the words to understand the short. It transcends language barriers.

Holy crap, what an awesome movie. The reviews are 100% correct, I think it was better than both Frozen and Wreck It Ralph. FAR better than Frozen, and just edging out WiR (mostly due to fantastic nostalgia value there). It's a classic hero's journey, and it's not a movie where the hero has to save the whole world. The stakes never feel like they're limited to one kid in one city, but in scope, they are. Great animation, really fantastic running gags, and some throwaway ones that are perfect too.

It's almost as if the directors listen to What Are You Doing, Movie? for hints!
